Several Internet research firms found that about 66% of North Americans have Net access, while 40% of Western Europeans can easily jump online. The gap will widen to 81% to 51% within three years. The studies also found this: If you can't stand to hear people jawing on cell phones, steer clear of Italy. More than eight out of nine Italians have a mobile phone. That's about double the average of the rest of Europe.
