Are you moving towards a distributed data center or sticking with a centralized one?

There has been a decades-long debate over centralized versus distributed IT. On one hand, users are finding departmental servers are a way to access data quicker and easier than they would from a mainframe. On the other hand, companies are realizing the benefits of a centralized system, including cost savings and simplified troubleshooting.

What's your opinion? Do you see more benefit in a data center that's distributed or traditionally centralized? What's on your list of pros and cons for one or the other? What type of environment are you working in now? Do you see that changing? Let us know.
