 From the Editor:

by Mark Brunelli, Site Editor

Recently, Linux has made quite a few appearances in news headlines as more companies, especially those with mainframe shops, have begun welcoming the open source operating system.

In fact, Gartner predicts that by the end of 2003 Linux use by enterprises will have more than doubled over previous years. Could it be just because of the open-source cost savings? Or is there another reason?

This week, I'd like you to tell me all about your plans for implementing Linux on the mainframe. Are you currently running Linux, or do you plan to in the future? If you don't plan to get aboard the Linux bandwagon, what are your reasons? Send any comments you have to [EMAIL PROTECTED], and I'll include your opinions in and upcoming Search390.com news article.

If you've already ventured into the open source world, be sure and visit our featured topic page. It's full of tips designed to make sure that Linux implementation doesn't compromise the security of your network. If you have any further questions about Linux and the mainframe, send them to our resident expert on the subject, David Boyes, President of Sine Nominee Associates. He'll examine your problem and post a response in his Ask the Expert forum as soon as possible.

Until next time,
