THE MISSING LINK
Ping! IM SLAPs business users

If you still think instant messaging is the domain of giggly teenagers, keep this in mind: A new study shows that IM is also the domain of giggly professionals. According to corporate IM vendor Omnipod, "serious" IMers love their acronyms as much as teens. While "LOL" and "OMG" may be considered teen IM, grown-up users in cubicles are likely to use "SLAP" (sounds like a plan), "BFO" (blinding flash of the obvious) and "IHMB" (I hate my boss). Omnipod researchers found that "BRB" is the most popular IM acronym in the workplace, followed by "CTRN" (can't talk right now), "IMO" (in my opinion), "HTH" (hope this helps) and "IAM" (in a meeting).
