A RECOMMENDATION FOR WLM IN GOAL MODE | Ask the Expert

Before WLM GOAL mode we built an association between address space,
PGN and DP via the IPC/ICS members. Our performance monitors would
run at a DP higher than the address spaces that they were monitoring.

What is your recommendation for WLM in GOAL mode? For example, I
classify VTAM to SYSSTC. Should I also have the monitors at SYSSTC?

PRODUCTION WORK VS. NON-PRODUCTION WORK | Ask the Expert

All five production ADABAS (ADAPROD) servers are running at a lower
dispatch priority (DP) than all other ADABAS servers. I know that DP
is dynamic, but why is production work running at a lower DP than
non-production work?

VM 101 PART 1 | Ask the Expert

I've been an MVS Systems Programmer for 17+ years. My employer wants
to explore z/VM and Linux. I know there is a lot of Linux related
education, but how about VM? Where do I start learning how to set up
VM in an LPAR running on a Linux-only CPU? How do I set up my
hardware configuration? I know that all this can be done but I don't
know how? I need basic VM 101.

FEATURED WHITE PAPER | Object management for DB2

Most mission critical production applications rely on relational
database technology to manage business data. This means that when
applications are updated, their database counterparts need to be
addressed as well. This means that relational databases require DBAs
to constantly monitor, maintain and administer modifications. This
white paper discusses this challenge and offers one way to address it
with the Quest Central Database Administration component.

THE MISSING LINK | Even PCs can eat too many carbs

Ah, the ol' tuber trick! A guy in Germany, claiming that the PC he'd
just bought didn't work, returned it to the store. Employees there
found a very good reason why the computer went on the fritz -- it was
stuffed with potatoes. The store replaced the machine, but the guy
returned, complaining that the new PC didn't work either. This time,
he wanted a refund. Staffers found the same starchy spuds stuffed in
the center of the machine. Coincidence? Probably not. Countering the
ol' tuber trick with the older "fool me once" philosophy, the
retailer called "die Polizei" and the guy was arrested. (The
