DATA BLOCK SIZE | OS/390 and z/OS Systems Programming

We are running z/OS 1.4 and purchased a VTS system. A performance
report from a utility indicates that we should change the block size
of SMF. We currently dump SMF to VTS tape with LRECL 32K and the
block size is 4096. Is there some block size for VTS that is optimal?
Are there any issues with changing all five LPARs at the same time?

DETERMINING THE SIZE OF A NATIVE z/OS DATASET | Troubleshooting 390

I want to do is determine the actual size of a file in real world
numbers (MB) instead of blocks. I am looking at a DSN file, and would
like to have a formula for calculating its actual size. I have tried
FTPing it to a PC to try and determine if there is an obvious quick
calculation. Do you have any advice for me?

EXCP COUNTS FROM SMF 30 RECORDS | OS/390 and z/OS Systems Programming

Why is it that in certain z/OS installations, if you increase the
BUFNO (QSAM), it does not change the execute channel program?

FEATURED TIP | CIOs demand that vendors get real

As budget debates rage on for 2004 planning, most CIOs do not expect
to see big increases over last year's funding. The growing project
backlog dictates that money earmarked for the next year is already
accounted for holdover initiatives. The struggles over which projects
are approved and which will fall by the wayside are just beginning.
