Why deadlocks occur and what to do about them
[Search390.com]
A Search390.com user asked: We already tried to update the rows of the same table in order but why are we still getting deadlocked to the same program? We use DB2 V6 for OS/390 and CICS TS V1.3 on OS/390 V2.9. The transaction came from RS6K CICS and routed to CICS/390 using DPL.

Using an open cursor to scroll forward and backward
[Search390.com]
A Search390.com user asked: Given a table, my application specification requires me to position somewhere in the middle of the set of records and then fetch records either forward (increasing sort key order) or backward depending on user selection. Is there a straightforward way of doing it in SQL a special way for table or query definition?

FEATURED TOPIC:
DB2 Version 8 explained
DB2 V8 has been out for months but most mainframers still haven't upgraded. Search390.com this week features a host of content on the newest version of the venerable database.
WEBCAST:
IMS meets the Web!
If you said Web-enabling a database, most people probably think you mean connecting DB2 to the Web. But IMS, IBM's older database, is just as Web worthy. IMS is geared for fast and frequent access. You can directly attach IMS to the Web or go via CICS or DB2. In this Webcast, Jim Keohane will discuss the ins and outs of bringing IMS databases to the Web.
TIP:
Should you upgrade to DB2 V8 now?
Recently, a Search390.com user recently asked Craig Mullins, our DB2 and database management expert, whether he should upgrade to DB2 V8 now. Read Craig's reply.
