The Missing Link

Cool cybercafes put the 'in' in login
[Reuters]
The envelopes, please. The winners of the first Yahoo Mail Internet Cafe Awards -- because there just aren't enough awards ceremonies in the world -- include a hip little wired joint in Moscow's Red Square called The Phlegmatic Dog, the comfy Cafe Curve in Brighton on England's south coast and Brain Wash in San Francisco, where customers can wash their whites with Surf laundry detergent while they surf. And let's not forget the winner of the coveted world's Most Remote Internet Cafe award, won by a place in Timbuktu, Mali, proving that Timbuktu may be losing some of its isolated charm. Before you know it, there'll be a Starbucks there. Yahoo sponsored the awards to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the first cybercafe -- Cafe Cyberia in London. The cafes have been spreading like the Klez virus ever since -- about 20,000 in 171 countries.
