'Wave rat' pulls $50,000 Web site
[Reuters]
Was he just trying to help or just trying to help himself? That is the question in the case of a 20-year-old art student in Canada who put the domain name "tsunamirelief.com" up for sale on eBay for $50,000. He had gotten the name for free just after the deadly waves hit, telling the original owner he represented an international fundraising effort (from his dorm room?). What followed was a wave of negative publicity -- the "New
York Post" called him a "wave rat," suggesting he was trying to pocket some profit from the disaster. His parents say he was planning to donate all the money to relief efforts. The site name has since been yanked from the auction block.
