LEAD STORY
"iSeries programmer publishes never-ending story"
The lack of detailed, inside information on the iSeries
platform was enough to spur one AS/400 aficionado to pen an
e-book on the platform. Problem is, there's just so much
information, the text is always a work in progress and
although it already contains more than 30 chapters, the
author says, there's no end in sight.

[1] "Ariba to end collaboration with i2"
Everyone saw it coming, but the news is still hard to
swallow. Ariba will end its collaboration with i2
Technologies because the company does not see a viable future
for online marketplaces. Ariba is active in an alliance that
creates online marketplaces with i2 and IBM. It insists,
however, that its relationship with IBM will stay intact.

[2] "XML use on rise overseas"
The use of XML is on the rise--at least outside the U.S.
According to a recent study, the number of developers using
the programming language nearly doubled last year. A survey
of 400 developers outside North America found that 38.2%
report using XML for at least part of their developing time,
up from 25.7% in November. Slightly more than half of the
respondents said they plan to be using XML next year.

[3] "HP takes on outsourcing -- and IBM"
Hewlett-Packard formalizes its three-year relationship with
Accenture, moving beyond its alliance on ERP solutions to
include outsourcing business-model migration, Web hosting,
operation and management services. Under the surface, HP
singles out IBM's Global Services as its primary, competitive
target.

[1] "Important price changes on iSeries machines"
In this article the writer discusses IBM's past practice of
cutting prices with a new generation of machines to encourage
customers to move toward new technology. IBM did cut the
price on the Model 820's feature 2395 processor, which was
set to be replaced by an iSeries S-Star processor until IBM
dropped it from the line. Read this article for the rest of
the price changes on iSeries machines.

[2] "V5R10 enhances e-business"
If you watched the IBM V5R1 announcement Webcast, you heard
about new processors, LPAR, Linux, and other enhancements.
You may not have heard the new developments for e-business.
The writer says that the news is so vast it's hard to get all
of the information in one article, but he does a nice job of
touching on a few different areas.

"Quirky inventory cataloged online"
Not every dot-com with an offbeat business model is dead.
Take the online version of Philip Cable's American Science &
Surplus, for instance. The brick-and-mortar version of the
catalog business is chugging along after more than 60 years
by selling everything from recycled camera batteries to "owl
pellets" -- the stuff left over after an owl eats a small
woodland creature. Cable is taking a measured approach to
selling his junk, er, wares to online shoppers. He doesn't
expect to make millions; he's just looking to expand beyond
his offline customer base.
