LEAD STORY
"The method behind iSeries marketing madness"
Insider Weekly has learned that iSeries marketing money comes from
three separate areas within Big Blue: an iSeries-specific marketing
budget, a broader eServer marketing budget and a budget for IBM as a
whole. This year's iSeries marketing budget will be devoted
principally to attracting new customers to the platform.

A look at an off-the-wall story off the Web

"Of mouse and man"
Ever hear of Dr. Douglas Engelbart? Well, chances are if you're an IT
pro or if you just surf the Web for fun at home, the fruits of his
labor are in the palm of your hand. Engelbart is the inventor of the
computer mouse, and his colleagues and disciples hail him as a
point-and-click visionary. Engelbart is also responsible for the
first public demonstration of hypertext and online conferencing, more
than 30 years ago. Now 75, Engelbart "retired" in 1989 only to throw
his energies behind what he calls his "bootstrap institute," a vision
that pulls countries, concepts and other "social organisms" together.
The thinking is that a collective IQ would help us prepare, find
solutions and deal with the urgent problems in the world.
