[1] "Lotus to announce link to WebSphere at DevCon"
IBM and its subsidiary Lotus plan to announce this week the
integration of Lotus' Notes and Domino collaboration
software with IBM's WebSphere Internet infrastructure
software. This is the first step in a series of moves to
connect IBM subsidiary products across platforms through
WebSphere. The developments are similar to what Microsoft
is planning with its HailStorm initiative, though
Microsoft's offerings are potentially years away.

[2] "IBM to offer wireless instant messaging"
With the release of its "Sametime Everyplace" instant
messaging service, the 80 million users of IBM's Lotus
Notes e-mail software will by mid-July be able to purchase
a service allowing them to receive IM (instant messages) on
mobile phones, handheld computers and other wireless
devices.

[3] "Tech giants update e-commerce standard"
Several computing giants, including IBM, have released the
second version of a key Web standard launched in May that
allows businesses to register with an Internet directory
that will help companies advertise their services, so they
can find one another and conduct transactions over the Web.
The online yellow pages directory that UDDI provides is a
key part of how "Web services" plans such as Microsoft .Net
and Sun One will work together despite corporate
differences.

[1] "Focus on performance"
When you're working on performance it would be nice if you
could compare systems, but this is not always possible.
For example, you can't compare interactive performance on
an AS/400 Model 150 with the interactive performance of an
iSeries Model 270. Even though there isn't a performance
comparison or solution that fit all situations, here are
some performance related articles that will help you get
the most out of several areas of your iSeries.

[2] "Protecting the fortress"
This article compares the security of the iSeries to a
medieval castle. With the recently announced OS/400 V5R1,
system security was foremost on the minds of the iSeries
security development team. If security is one of your top
priorities, you may want to check out this article, you'll
find a lot of good information.

THE MISSING LINK
A look at an off-the-wall story off the Web
--------------------------------------------

"Houston company wants to sail DNA into space"
Here is one way to get to outer space for those on a
budget. Encounter 2001, a Texas company, is charging $50 to
carry digitized photos, messages and DNA samples on a
spacecraft scheduled for blast off in 2003. So far, 67,000
people have signed up, although there is room for messages
and dehydrated hair samples with the DNA codes for 4.5
million people. And the point of all this? "One day,
some super civilization may encounter this relic from the
vanished species and I may exist in another time," said
science fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke, who was among the
first to register.
