LEAD STORY
"Unrest in the iSeries Nation?"
The people have spoken. A splinter organization has arisen
in IBM's iSeries Nation. The new group, which is listed as
a Virginia corporation by the name of iSeries Nation, Inc.,
went live with its Web site at www.iseriesnation.com and is
encouraging people who signed up for IBM's iSeries Nation
to register with this new group as well. Don Rima, one of
the founders of the new group, said the new group was
created because there needed to be a "user side" to the
iSeries Nation that was not controlled by IBM. Rima said
this is intended to be very positive and mutual
relationship with IBM.

[1] "CA organizing products into four brands"
Computer Associates is shifting things around. The software
powerhouse has divulged plans to divide its technologies
into four branded product lines. In early June, CA
executives told analysts the company is concentrating on
six core segments: security, storage, enterprise
management, e-business integration tools, portals and
knowledge management, and predictive analysis and
visualization tools. Analysts said the move would bring
much-needed clarity to CA's business.

[2] "Shell signs $100 million deal with IBM to consolidate
servers"
Royal Dutch/ShellGroup has signed a $100 million deal with
IBM that has Big Blue fueling Shell's server and storage
needs. Shell is consolidating servers from multiple
locations onto IBM's eServer pSeries (formerly RS/6000) and
iSeries (formerly AS/400) systems, as well as its Shark
storage system. Shell plans to group the IBM servers and
storage into three "Megacenter hubs", which will run
existing SAP and J.D. Edwards applications. IBM will also
deploy a number of unspecified e-business applications.
Shell said the new MegaCenters would be in Kuala Lumpur,
The Hague and Houston.

[1] "Quick takes: CRM a money pit without careful
strategies"
This writer warns that although Customer Relationship
Management (CRM) can benefit a company and help curb
customer complaints, it can also cause customer service
costs to get out of control. According to this article, a
company should concentrate on what industry it is in; for
example, manufacturers should emphasize lead tracking and
retailers should focus on e-mail marketing.

[2] "At last! A serious application for XML"
You often hear how wonderful XML is -- yet to most it's
almost useless. Craig Rutledge Jr., has come up with a
source transfer utility that allows the creation of groups
of source objects into XML format. The source, attributes
and even creation commands are all provided in an XML
document that can be transferred via the Web, e-mail, disk
or whatever means you see fit. Check out this article for
all of the detail. You'll find some great screen shots.

A look at an off-the-wall story off the Web

"Bacteria could create self-cleaning clothes"
Tired of the olfactory torture thanks to the dirty dude in
the next cubicle? Wish there were such a thing as a full-
body Altoid for that co-worker whose BO is strong
enough to knock over a man and kill a woman? Maybe one day,
instead of slipping a bar of soap or some deodorant into
his or her mailbox, you'll just have to buy the offending
party some new clothes. Scientists are injecting bacteria
into clothing fibers that eat human sweat and other
proteins that cause body odor. Apparently one organism's
stink is another organism's supper. The bacteria being
injected into the fibers? E. coli! Don't worry, this is the
lighter side of the sickening bacteria - scientists use a
harmless strain to do the trick.
