Lotus is blaming tough economic times for another round of layoffs.
The company handed out pink slips to 200 of its 5,500 total
employees. The job losses mainly hit the company's services and
consulting business. In addition, Lotus is making some management
changes that will have an impact all the way up the executive chain.
CEO Al Zollar gets a new title and will now be called general
manager, the same title held by the executives who run IBM's other

This reviewer feels that in the AS/400 community there is a
crossroads that has the following paths, one path is to make lots of
cash, and the other is enjoy what you do. He feels this crossroads
can now be given a name, the Function Junction. This product comes
bundled with over 120 functions. According to this reviewer, the
dollar per function price is nominal when compared to the amount of
effort that has been put into creating each function.

IBM is showing progress, so this writer says. He describes these
three crucial areas: WebSphere, Domino and DB2. According to this
article, these three products are the cream-of-the-crop of IBM's
cross-platform, open-standards strategy. All three run on the entire
eServer line, as well as on competitors' systems. And all three are
in hot, competitive markets that IBM is trying to dominate.

THE MISSING LINK
A look at an off-the-wall story off the Web
----------------------------------------
"Cheeky monkey apes his keepers"
Criminals who steal cell phones just don't get it. Sure, they light
be able to make a call or two, but the authorities usually catch up
with them. Take Chippy the chimp at Britain's Blair Drummond Safari
Park, for example. After picking his keeper's pocket of a new mobile
phone, Chippy thought he'd make a couple of speed-dial prank calls.
Zoo officials couldn't figure who was calling them until one of them
yelled into their phone, causing Chippy to give up his identity with
a startled shriek.
