LEAD STORY

BIG BLUE TEAMS UP WITH BEA AND MICROSOFT | News: iSeries Network

They may be rivals, but IBM, Microsoft and BEA Systems are among
a handful of companies pulling together to create the Web
Services Interoperability Organization (WS-I). Despite the fierce
competition in the Web application server space between some of
the WS-I members, the chance to work together to accelerate the
development of cross-industry, language-neutral Web Services is
too good to miss, the companies say. (Free registration to this
site required.)

IBM PREPPING PLANS TO PUSH ISERIES SALES | News: The Four Hundred
IBM is shifting the way it promotes the iSeries and other
midrange products. In addition to hitting the streets with its
resellers in order to drum up more sales of the OS/400 platform,
IBM wants to simplify the marketing message. Upshot: IBM wants to
give iSeries partners more time to absorb information, create
sales pitches and reach customers during the quarter.

FTP SERVICE ON THE ISERIES 400 | Advice: search400

One member writes, "I need to upload some data from a VB
application to my Web server -- my WebSphere is running on the
iSeries 400. I have chosen FTP as the transfer protocol since it
is more reliable and faster than HTTP." Do you have any
suggestions?

THE MISSING LINK | Thin Mints in cyberspace

Be sure to save room in your inbox for Thin Mints. Girl Scout
cookies, those boxed bits of baked bliss, are Do-Si-Doing online
thanks to parents who are using cyberspace to sell their daughters'
shortbreads. E-mail is becoming a more popular way to get the word
out that it's Samoa season -- a lot quicker than going door-to-door
or cubicle-to-cubicle. The Girl Scouts organization says it's fine
to cut cookie deals through e-mail to make some dough, as long as
the scout helps write the e-mails and doesn't make her mom or dad
do all the work.
