SOFTWARE SUBSCRIBERS CAN GET STUCK BETWEEN A ROCK AND A HARD PLACE |
News: iSeries Network
To take full advantage of the cost savings associated with Software
Subscription offerings, many iSeries customers opted to invest in
lengthier contracts. But with the high turnover rate in hardware, a
three-year Software Subscription can seem like a giant leap of faith.
While neither one year nor three years seems like a major commitment,
some say even three years is enough time for a model to unexpectedly
lose support -- leaving subscribers with a dilemma. (Free

CONNECTING THE ISERIES FROM A WIN2000 SYSTEM | Advice: search400

Dear Ask the Experts,
I am trying to connect to an iSeries 400 system from a Windows 2000
system through an IIS Web server using the ODBC driver. The
connection works fine when used with MS Access and when using the
Dreamweaver Recordset Test function. But with an ASP page running on
IIS, I get no response and IIS hangs. Do you have any advice?

THE MISSING LINK | Gunsmith suggests Dell Computer is funding gun
control

Dude, you're NOT gettin' a Dell. "Dude" in this case is a
Pennsylvania gunshop owner who ordered a notebook computer earlier
this month. But the name of his shop, Weigand Combat Handguns Inc.,
triggered red flags within Dell's system, and the company denied
dude's Dell. A tougher, post-9/11 screening system saw the word
"combat" and nixed the notebook. Michael Dell himself said the
company erred by canceling the computer order, and he offered the man
his machine for free. No deal -- the customer refused and claims Dell
is behind the gun control lobby. Dude, what a mess!
