Your simple tip could be a lifesaver for others
You've seen some really good tips on Search400, and you might have wondered who sends them in. Well, wonder no longer. These tip writers are people just like you -- iSeries administrators and programmers -- not professional writers. They've simply taken a time-saving trick that they've discovered or a unique solution to a pesky problem and sent it in.

Do you have something in your bag of tricks that others could benefit from? Send it in. Not only will you be helping other users, but you could also win this month's tips contest. This is the last week to enter to win a portable lie detector. This little gadget analyzes any voice on the phone or in person and can tell you who's lying. How cool is that? Just send in your tip -- administrator, programmer, security or WebSphere Strategies -- for a chance to win.

Your tip may seem simple to you, but it could save another user hours of valuable time.

This Week: In the forums
>> Storage issue
Scenario: Library QSYS is growing by 500MB-plus per week, and this person can't figure out what's causing this. It started happening after he upgraded to 5.1. He tried writing a query on two DSPOBJD outfiles run a week apart, but it doesn't give him what he wants. It does show that he doesn't have too many new objects, but he can't get it to compare object sizes in the outfiles.

What do you think? Do you know why this might be happening?

>> Hardware limits for V5R1
This user asks, "Is there a list of minimum hardware requirements for upgrading an AS/400 to V5R1?" BrianS22 has an answer. Check it out if you're planning an upgrade to V5R1.

>> Logical file rebuilds
During this user's end-of-day batch processing he sees a lot of logicals being rebuilt. This rebuilding is eating CPU and extending the run times for batch. He'd like to find a way to stop these 'unnecessary' rebuilds? Fortunately, MiraBa has some ideas. Click over and read what they are.

Tip of the Week:
Web-enabling apps easier with new WebSphere Studio Development Client
If you have not ventured into the world of Java and WebSphere, IBM has removed any and all reasons that may have prevented you from doing so. WebSphere Studio Development Client, announced June 4, greatly eases and speeds up the process for Web-enabling applications. One of the significant enhancements in this package is the support for WebFacing and PCML. Wizards and tutorials make it easier than ever to use those features. Bob Cancilla, one of the beta testers for the product, shows you just how easy.
