What would you say to IBM?
When it comes to offering an opinion or taking a stance against something, nothing compares to AS/400 (or iSeries) users. What's struck me most since I started working on Search400 more than two years ago is how passionate you are about the 400. To you nothing else compares, and it seems you would do anything to keep it in your shops.
Although you have almost nothing but praise for the 400, you can be critical of IBM's treatment of it and fear the 400 could be on its way out. Every new technology for it could mean something old and reliable is gone. And several of you say IBM isn't marketing the 400 or promoting it to get new users. No one knows about the great things this machine can do, you say.
At every COMMON conference, members have an opportunity to sound off and tell iSeries executives about their concerns, as well as share their praise. But standing up in front of a crowd of people and sharing their opinions often doesn't appeal to people. They'd rather lose a body part. So, here's your opportunity to do it from the security of your own computer. If you could have Buell Duncan's ear for one minute, what would you say -- good or bad? E-mail me, and we'll post your responses on the site.

Received Message CPI1479 -- What is this telling me?
Falcon53 didn't know what it meant when he received Message CPI1479, but a couple other users did. And unfortunately, it could cost a lot to resolve. Click over to read what they said.

Can PPP set up ECS on V5R1 with a modem attached to the network?
BrianS22 writes, "Is it possible to set up the ECS line with a modem not attached to the iSeries 270 but one that is attached to the network on an ISDN line? Or must the modem always be physically connected to the AS/400 or iSeries via a cable?" He's looked but can't find any examples in the V5R1 InfoCenter. Do you know if this is possible or where he can get more information?

AFPDS print file to an e-mailable file
This user asked if there's software that takes an AS/400-created AFPDS print file and converts it to some sort of attachable e-mail file, like an Adobe Acrobat file. They want to be able to e-mail computer-generated documents for printout on the receiving end. Good news for him: There are lots of options. |

Change FTP server to use port other than 21
Everyone knows that port 21 is the default port for FTP servers. But what if you want to change the port number to make it more difficult for someone to gain unauthorized access to you FTP server? If you've tried to do so and failed, you may think that it's impossible to do. Not true. Search400 expert Tim Granatir knows a way, and he shares it here with you.
