What are your favorite iSeries commands?

When it comes to working with the iSeries, there are a number of commands that can help you with your routine tasks. You have backup commands such as SAVSYS, SAVLIB and SAVOBJ, programming commands such as DSPPGM and DSPFD, and administrator commands such as WRKACTJOB and DSPPTF. (Unfortunately yelling "Don't do that!" is one command that doesn't work.)

But what commands are effective for you? Which ones do you use most often? What tasks do they help you accomplish? Are there any out there that users might not be aware of that are really helpful?

E-mail me and tell me which commands are tops on your list and why. We'll take what you send and put together a series of tips about those commands so everyone can experience their greatness themselves.

This is an IBM program that is set at PUBLIC *EXCLUDE -- there are numerous user profiles that receive this error. What function does DSPPGM PGM (QSYS/QWSMSG) perform?" >> Setting up WebSphere Express on a Windows server
"Jaws" is trying to set up WebSphere Express on a Windows server and have it communicate with the HTTP server on the iSeries. He's read that the HTTP server needs to have a WebSphere plug-in installed in order to do this. Has anyone ever heard of such an option?

How to increase performance by grouping users into separate storage pools -- Part III
by Ron Turull

In Part I of this series we discussed the benefits of putting high-activity users in their own storage pool. We learned about private storage pools and shared storage pools, and how to route users to the storage pool you want. Then in Part II we discussed how to calculate values for the two parameters that govern the performance of jobs in a storage pool, activity levels and pool size. Now let's take a look at how you use these values to configure a private storage pool and how you route certain users into that storage pool.
