Today's Featured Tip
===========================================================

Limit access to workstations| By Rich Loeber

In any iSeries installation it is important to limit access
to workstations. You want to allow authorized users to
access specific terminal devices, but you want to keep
users from logging onto the system from a device where they
should not be working. OS/400 security provides you with
an easy way to do this.

Answers to Other Security Questions
=============================================================

1. Alternative to "application only" security
Search400 member Skumar Parvathaneni provides an alternative to
"application only" security. Read this tip to learn more about exit
point programs to secure ODBC, FTP, RMTCMD and others.

2. Recommended security settings on the iSeries

the recommended settings suggested by IBM.

3. Security for Java applications
Patrice writes, "We have many developers requesting iSeries profiles
with passwords that don't expire. These profiles are used to allow
connectivity. The reasoning is that the application needs to be able
to log on and to prevent re-entering a password and recompiling the
program every 90 days -- the password must remain the same. What are
some different methods being used to resolve these issues?" A couple
of Search400.com members responded. Read what they had to say.

4. Disable inactive user profiles
Search400.com member Juzar Borsadwala provides a command to use in
order to disable user profiles that have not been used since "nnn"
days.
