The ever-changing iSeries
If I've learned one important thing through speaking to Search400.com members, it's that keeping up with the latest technology and education is the toughest hurdle they face. Whether the problem is big or small, there are often times when you need a little extra help with your jobs. We understand what you're going through and make it our top priority to help you find resources to get you over those bumps in the road.
One effective way to do this is to team you up with other iSeries professionals that have experienced similar situations. We do this through the Search400.com Discussion Forums.
As we all know, iSeries users are of a different breed -- dedicated and devoted to the platform like no other group I've come across. In surfing through the forums, I came across one post that really confirmed that. The post was from "tanman" one of our "forum groupies." In a previous post, a member thanked "tanman" for his advice. In "tanman's" response, he stated that he's been on the platform since the early days of the S/38. He stated, "It's been quite a challenge keeping up with all the changes from IBM, and in the industry in general. These days, I've got a job that's not very demanding, so I thought I'd help out once in a while on this Forum."
And help out he has. "Tanman" has posted more than 30 posts in the month of October alone. So for all of you "old dinosaurs," Search400.com applauds and appreciates you because we understand that years of experience is invaluable.
So if you need a question answered quickly, visit one of the discussion forums: OS/400, Managing the iSeries, Programmer or WebSphere/Web Development Forums. We also have 13 industry experts on hand in the Ask the Experts section of the site to answer you questions. Remember, you're never alone when you're a member of Search400.com.

Capturing SQL codes in CL
"Jmartinkoko" has concerns about running SQL in a CL program -- via the strqmqry command. He's updating a physical file and is testing what happens if it can't find the specified record to update. He states, "I can see the message SQL0100 'Row not found for update' if I run the CL in debug mode." He's tried to monitor the message QWM2701, but it doesn't catch this problem. He wonders if there is a way to check the SQL communications area in CL? Two people offered suggestions. Read what they said or post your own advice.

Trigger a program
"Wjminc" writes, "We have a program that reads a data file every 15 minutes. It takes the data and edits it, then writes it to a job-tracking program. I have been asked to change the procedure to run the edit program and update program when the file receives data. I don't have access to the program that writes the data out. What I am hoping is that someone can give me some ideas on how to trigger the edit and update programs when data is received. We are using RPG III." Do you have any advice?

Using WebFacing in a production environment
"Bocabuilder" would like to use WebFacing to "webbify" his green-screen applications. He turned to his fellow members in the Web Development Forum for advice. Have any ideas? Click over and post them.

| Tip of the Week: |
Hey! You've got your test file in my production library
If you've ever had to set up a test system on the same box as you production system, you've probably experienced one of the following situations with logical files:
* A logical file built over a test system somehow makes it into a production library
* A logical file built over a production library makes in into a test library
* A programmer has a long forgotten logical built in a separate library
Especially in the case of the first two situations, those can cause some real problems and become a serious challenge to track down. In this tip Search400.com expert Tim Granatir gives you a couple simple utilities that were built to identify just such problems -- and eliminate aggravation you might experience down the road.
