With this book, author Bob Cancilla provides a road map for iSeries customers to identify and understand the tremendous wealth of e-business software bundled with OS/400. He takes each of the main e-business components and explains what it is, how it works and how it can be used to improve business environments.

Download the first chapter, and if you like what you see, you can buy it through our online bookstore.

Have you seen some of the other chapter downloads? Take a look at AS/400: System, Utilities, Database, and Programming, 2/e by Gayla Stewart and George Lin. This book covers a variety of topics, including Java, TCP/IP network, Internet and Web with the AS/400, Internet security and firewalls for AS/400, HTTP server, Lotus Notes and Domino for AS/400, SAP on the AS/400, and ILE. This Week: In the forums
>> How to do an AND function in RPGLE
"Programmers" writes, "How can I do an AND function in RPG starting from integers with a value from 0 till 255? The only function that I have found that could do the job is BITOFF. But how can I put an integer (3U) into a character (1A) for this function? MOVE of an integer with value 255 to a character will give '5' instead of X'FF'." TSCHMITZ has run into something similar and provides a service program to help.

>> Need help with WebSphere Admin Console install
"PLancor" is trying to install the WebSphere Admin Console on the iSeries' integrated NT server. The install runs up to 99% and then locks up. It never finishes. What's wrong? If you know, click over and lend a hand.

>> Automatically process file after received via FTP
"Beenthere" receives files via FTP into a directory out in the IFS. He would like to process the files immediately after they are received via a kind of trigger mechanism. He says using the job scheduler is inefficient because of the varying times and frequencies in the transfers. Is there an alternative? A couple people have some ideas.
