LEAD STORY

IBM, BEA BATTLE OVER MIDDLEWARE TURF | iSeries Network

IBM and app server nemesis BEA are pushing scaled down versions of
their Web application servers to small- and mid-size companies.
While it seems unlikely that you'd find an iSeries shop running a
J2EE-based app server other than WebSphere, BEA could be making
huge strides in this arena. (Free registration to this site

THE MISSING LINK | Logging on for a law degree

Some say it raises the bar. Some say it lowers the bar. Either way,
its grads are taking the bar. Concord Law School has graduated its
first batch of lawyers. Concord is a little different from, say,
Harvard Law School. You can't really get a law degree from Harvard
wearing your pajamas. Yes, Concord is entirely online with a token
brick-and-mortar office in Los Angeles. This week's graduation is
the third time in four years that the students have actually met
the faculty. The American Bar Association refuses to accredit the
school; they don't think law school has a place in cyberspace.
Let's face it, in the real world you can't hit the "mute" button
when a witness gets hostile.
