It has "outgoogled" Microsoft. Google, the sultan of search, tallied up its most sought-after terms for 2002. As far as IT-related searches went, MP3 was tops in the box, followed by SMS, Winzip, and Linux. Microsoft finished ninth. Among more general terms, Spider-Man proved his Web power, showing the sharpest increase in searches for 2002. Colombian singer Shakira shook out second place. This year people stopped looking for Nostradamus in droves. Searches for the French seer showed the sharpest decline. He probably saw that coming.
