Sound Off: Tell us what you think about articles, polls

Your opinion is important to us. You know the products. You know the issues. You know what's going to work and what won't. More important, you're especially good at filtering out all the marketing garbage for us so that what we report on is the information you need to make solid choices throughout your business day.

And when there's something that starts your blood boiling, you don't hold back.

That's why we've introduced a feature on Search400.com that lets you sound off about a particular news article, issue or poll. The feature, aptly named "Sound Off" is located at the top and bottom of each article written by Search400.com editors and at the end of each poll.

We're extremely eager to have you use this feature. It will give you the opportunity to discuss with your peers issues that affect you as an iSeries pro. And it gives news editors direction on how to move forward when covering news.

There are news articles on the site now and a new poll that asks about Microsoft's plan to stop hackers. Check them out and sound off.

This Week: In the forums
>> Use RSTOBJ without renaming of file
"Jcain4uk" writes, "With each new release of our software, we distribute any modified source members via SAVOBJ on tape. We would like to preserve the change date/time on these members. How can we have the client use RSTOBJ to restore the members into the source lib/file without resulting in the source file being renamed? The file level ID on the source file differs from our box to theirs." Search400 expert John Brandt offers a solution.

>> What's the right path for a Web beginner?
This Search400.com member is interested in Web designing, but he's very confused about the many software options that are available. Web development expert Jim Mason says WebSphere Development Studio Client for iSeries is the best place to start. Read this discussion thread to see why.

>> API to retrieve a library name

Tip of the Week:
Distribute spool files to printers easily
by Kenneth Graap

Wouldn't it be nice to have a "simple" process for distributing copies of spool files to different printers? Or one that just uses basic OS/400 commands and definitions?

Well, you can, with just a few simple user profiles, distribution entries and the SNDNETSPLF command.
