RPG to Java: The road less traveled?

IBM announced last week another offering to help you get off of RPG and onto Java: two new certification exams as well as an enhanced "Professional Certification Program" that will enable J2EE developers to quickly update their skills and become certified on the latest version of WebSphere Portal version 5. I'm told they have a special course just for folks working on the iSeries platform.

Experience tells me that iSeries programmers are not going to be lining up to take these courses. Despite what IBM says, I don't see a lot of iSeries programmers moving to Java, let alone getting certified in WebSphere. Still, I do sense a lot of interest as well as concern in moving from RPG to Java. So, are you moving to Java? Do you plan to get certified? Let me know what you plan to do, if anything. And let me know what you think about certification in general. Send your comments to me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] and take our poll.

>> Do you recognize these user profiles?
"MikeJP" asks, "Does anyone recognize these profiles: QSERV, QSEV, QSRVOFF and QSVR? The text for the profiles all display 'User Profile Created During Signon' and were all created in 1989. Are they old IBM defaults that were possibly carried forward?"
