Hardware helps IBM beat earnings forecast
[InternetNews]
Thanks in large part to its zSeries and xSeries servers, Big Blue yesterday exceeded analyst expectations by reporting earnings of $1.8 billion, or $1.06 per share, though its overall results were hampered by a $320 million legal settlement related to its employee pension plan.

New P5s will 'stir up the field'
[vnunet]
According to one analyst, IBM's three new Power5-based servers -- the eServer i5 595, p5 595 and p5 590 -- are aggressively priced and will "stir up the field," forcing HP and Sun to respond dramatically in order to match IBM's combination of price and performance.

The Missing Link

Cell phone jammers mean 'no service' at church service
[Associated Press]
Jamming in church? You bet -- and lots of it. Four churches in Monterrey, Mexico -- tired of the modern-day mating call known as the cell phone ring -- have installed cell phone jammers behind pictures of the Madonna and statues of saints, thus offering sanctuary to worshippers tired of hearing noisy Nokias during Mass. The practical technology has tactical origins -- it helped Israeli security forces thwart phone-triggered bombings. And even though the private use of cell phone blockers is illegal in the U.S., you've got to wish the technology were "coming to a theater near you."
