[amsat-bb] Re: Cal Poly's CP6 Satellite Launching May 5th
Hi Bob, I second your comments. Waiting 2 minutes for a 1 second burst is going to be a challenge indeed, even with computer controlled receiver tracking. Jason, I trust you have the transmit sequence correct?? What's the planned Pout? What's the best link to tech details? But we can always use a new challenge so the very best of luck to your team. [amsat-bb] Cal Poly's CP6 Satellite Launching May 5th
Hi Fellow Amateurs, Cal Poly's next satellite, CP6, is scheduled to launch on May 5th between 20:00 and 23:00 EDT. We would be more than happy if everyone who is interested could listen for CP6 as it comes over your locales. We will be providing a CPX Data Decoder program which will show you all of your decoded data as well as forward those packets to us at Cal Poly. I will be sending out another email in a few days regarding how to download the program. Also to note, we will be in the IRC chatroom at 'irc.freenode.org' in the 'cubesat' room before, during, and after the launch. Thanks! CP6 Satellite Link Information -- Frequency: 437.365MHz Modulation: FSK (but uses LSB cheat to make AFSK) Radio Mode: LSB (neccesary for LSB cheat) Baud Rate: 1200 baud Beacon rate: 1 beacon every 2 minutes - Jason Anderson, KI6GIV PolySat, Software Team Lead California Polytechnic State University ___ Sent via amsat...@amsat.org. [amsat-bb] Yaesu G5500 rotor trouble.
Hello group, I have a 6 year old G-5500 rotor on my portable SAT setup and upon setting it up tonight, I found that the EL rotor has ceased to work. AZ works fine. Checked the screw-on connector, checked the controller, etc. The rotor makes a clicking sound when the control is engaged, and a humming noise until released. At least the rotor is mounted only 6 feet off the ground, hi,hi. Any ideas before major surgery would be appreciated. TIA Shawn - N1HOQ #33948 ___ Sent via amsat...@amsat.org. May 3, 2009 To All RADIO AMATEURS BID: $ANS-132.02 The AMSAT Field Day 2009 event is open to all Amateur Radio operators. Amateurs are to use the exchange as specified in ARRL rules for Field Day. The AMSAT competition is to encourage the use of all amateur satellites, both analog and digital. Note that no points will be credited for any contacts beyond the ONE allowed via each single-channel FM satellite. Operators are encouraged not to make any extra contacts via theses satellites (Ex: AO-27 & SO-50). CW contacts and digital contacts are worth three points as outlined below. 1. Analog Transponders ARRL rules apply, except: - Each phone, CW, and digital segment ON EACH SATELLITE TRANSPONDER is considered to be a separate band. - CW and digital (RTTY, PSK-31, etc.) contacts count THREE points each. - Stations are limited to one (1) completed QSO on any single channel FM satellite. If AO-51 has the V/U and L/S modes turned on, one contact each is allowed. If the PBBS is on - see Pacsats below, ISS (1 phone and 1 digital), Contacts with the ISS crew will count for one contact if they are active. PCSat (I, II, etc.) (1 digital), - The use of more than one transmitter at the same time on a single satellite transponder is prohibited. 2. Digital Transponders For the Pacsats (GO-32, AO-51) or Store and Forward hamsats, each satellite is considered a separate band. Do not post "CQ" messages. Simply upload ONE greeting message to each satellite and download as many greeting messages as possible from each satellite. The subject of the uploaded file should be posted as Field Day Greetings, addressed to ALL. The purpose of this portion of the competition is to demonstrate digital satellite communications to other Field Day participants and observers. Do not reply to the Field Day Greetings addressed to ALL. The following uploads and downloads count as three-point digital contacts. (a) Upload of a satellite Field Day Greetings file (one per satellite). (b) Download of Satellite Field Day Greetings files posted by other stations. Downloads of non- Field Day files or messages not addressed to ALL are not to be counted for the event. Save DIR listings and message files for later "proof of contact." Please note AMSAT uploaded messages do not count for QSO points under the ARRL rules. Satellite digipeat QSO's and APRS short-message contacts are worth three points each, but must be complete verified two-way exchanges. Remember, only one digipeat contact is allowed for the ISS and other satellites in this mode. The use of terrestrial gateway stations or internet gateways (i.e. EchoLink, IRLP, etc.) to uplink/downlink is not allowed. 3. Operating Class Stations operating portable and using emergency power (as per ARRL Field Day rules) are in a separate operating class from those at home connected to commercial power. On the report form simply check off Emergency or Commercial for the Power Source and be sure to specify your ARRL operating class (2A, 1C, etc.). AND FINALLY... The Satellite Summary Sheet should be used for submission of the AMSAT Field Day competition and be received by KK5DO (email or postal mail) by 11:59 P.M. CDT, Monday, July 13, 2009. The preferred method for submitting your log is via e-mail to kk...@amsat.org or kk...@arrl.net. You may also use the postal service but give plenty of time for your results to arrive by the submission date. Add photographs or other interesting information so that can be used an article for the Journal. You will receive an email back

[amsat-bb] Re: Another memorable AO-7 QSO
Hey Dave, Thanks for your note. I am very fortunate that, given my approach and setup here, I get good shots in most directions. My worst "window" is the quadrant from 90 degrees azimuth to 180 degrees azimuth. I feel lucky because it COULD be 0 degrees to 90 degrees, and none of this would be possible! [amsat-bb] Elk Mounting
Jerry - NR5A, Here are some pictures of my Elk setup: http://www.flexresources.com/n8bbq/pics/ElkAssembled.jpg http://www.flexresources.com/n8bbq/pics/ElkDisassembled.jpg The instructions stressed getting the feedline away from the antenna at a 90 degree angle. I tuck the end of the plastic pipe under my right arm and hold the closest strut with my right hand. When held like a pistol grip, the antenna is horizontal. Polarity can usually be corrected by rotating the right wrist 90 degrees one way or the other. The feedline is a 6 foot RG58 BNC to BNC jumper with a BNC to PL259 adapter at the antenna end. A better feedline might be in order but it's what was on the shelf in the shack. The IC-W32A and headset with remote PTT complete the setup. Preliminary testing is good on the FM LEO's. Have fun. [amsat-bb] Re: AMSAT bouncing email redirections?
Hi Paul, The problem that Bob, Alan and I have seen is that the AMSAT server sends a reject message back to us. We were speculating that it was related to something that Comcast was doing but it is working at the moment. Comcast had a nation-wide network email system crash in April. Hopefully, they fixed it permanently. I don't think the problem was with the AMSAT server. 73, Tony AA2TX ___ Sent via amsat...@amsat.org. Opinions expressed are those of the author. [amsat-bb] Another memorable AO-7 QSO
Hey everyone, I love it when a plan comes together! As I pointed the Elk through the wall toward the northeast this morning - 11:13 UTC - I heard my call in CW, coming from Pedro, EA8AVI. We had a couple of exchanges, and I added Africa via the Canary Islands to the log here. Pedro is one of several hams on the islands who appear on the all-time "roster" of AO-7 users that is part of the Web site for our Grand Old Girl. After finding his call on the roster, I looked him up on QRZ.com and emailed to ask whether he was still active and would be willing to try for a schedule. In typical ham fashion, he not only agreed - but he enlisted another operator on the islands, Cecilio, EB8BRX. The three of us exchanged emails and tried a couple weeks ago, but a computer glitch on this end messed that up. I noticed on Thursday that this early pass this morning and the early one this evening had a good footprint for Georgia and west Africa, so I emailed them again. They responded just as quickly and enthusiastically as they did to my earlier emails, and Pedro was waiting on me this morning. My thanks to them for their cooperation and friendship. Thanks, too, to Joe - K3SZH - who mentioned some calls of African stations he'd heard on AO-7 and pointed me in the direction of the all-time roster on the Web page. Thanks, too, to Patrick, WD9EWK, who suggested Africa as my next target after a couple of European countries made it into my log. What a great way to start the day! 73 to all, Tim - N3TL Athens, Ga. - EM84ha ___ Sent via amsat...@amsat.org. Opinions expressed are those of the author. Not an AMSAT-NA member?
