Bug#649408: Also affecting pop3d

2011-12-13 Thread Howard Chu
When connecting to my POP3 server the warning message is output before the
POP3 banner, which confuses my Mozilla pop3 client and prevents the client
from connecting.

Why the hell are headless network services trying to talk to the Gnome keyring
in the first place? The idiocy of this is astounding.

Bug#640498: Paul Wise

2011-12-13 Thread Timo Juhani Lindfors
Hi,

1) Can you reproduce this if you save a gps track to file and then
playback it with gpsfake? If yes, this should make it easier for others
to reproduce the bug without GPS hardware.

2) Since you are on amd64, can you please run foxtrotgps under valgrind?

3) Also, what does "x/32i $rip" print in gdb?

Since you have Curl_resolv_timeout in the stack trace this looks similar
to

Hello Jonas,

Are there news abou tthis planned upload of cryptsetup? My translation
update round is dated back to October so I guess you had some
unexpected events that prevented you from doing the announced
upload. Is that right? May I help in something?

The attached patch is not enough. There are other variables that are
important.

Please check /usr/share/dpkg/buildflags.mk as an example of how this
should be done.

Better, I suggest that you rely on dpkg-dev doing the work for you and
that you just include this Makefile and use the standard variables.

There is no need to wait for drivers to leave staging, in general.

I think there was some problem with them earlier that meant we didn't
enable them (possibly limitations on building as modules?). Also, MS
abandoned them for a while. But it seems that they are being properly
maintained now.

Bug#652015: pu: package iotop/0.4-2

iotop bug #644616 needs to be fixed in stable because the elevant change
in Linux has been added to the 2.6.32 longterm tree, which the Debian
Linux kernel team intends[1] to add to the next Debian stable point
release. The change in Linux addresses a security issue (CVE-2011-2494)
by removing access to the taskstats interface for non-root users.
Unfortunately iotop relies on this file and therefore it can only run as
root. With the debdiff below iotop will output a friendly message
instead of crashing with a Python traceback.

Bug#560003:

2011-12-13 Thread James
And, just in case it's not immediately obvious, the printer has to be
turned-on and ready before plugging-in the USB adapter, or the printer will
not be able to report a Device ID and udev-configure-printer will throw the
"invalid or missing IEEE 1284 Device ID" error message.

Should udev-configure-printer perform polling, to allow the printer to be
turned-on _after_ the USB adapter is plugged?

Reversing the plugging order, adapter first, printer second, fails to provide
a working printer, using lpstat -p.

The need for "ritual", turning the printer on before plugging the USB adapter
or before turning-on the computer, is going to cause user problems and
initial confusion. It is not "user friendly", nor "idiot-proof".

Some kind of USB adapter polling seems to be needed.

Bug#652014: Linux 3.2: Enable Hyper-V kernel modules

2011-12-13 Thread Mathieu Simon
Package: linux-image-amd64
Severity: wishlist

Dear Maintainers

With the release of the 3.2 kernel (yet to happen), some of the
modules improving the glue for Linux VMs running on a MS Hyper-V
hypervisor have left the staging area (drivers/hv).

Could this be taken as an opportunity to enable them in the default
kernel image in experimental (i386, amd64) allowing testing with Debian?
Currently they are not unloadable, if that is a problem, I know there is
a patch floating in the upstream.

What would they enable?
- add virtual SMP support for VMs
- time provider support from the hypervisor

Best regards
Mathieu

Hi

Can you verify this with:

$ grep -A 4 update-inetd /var/lib/aptitude/pkgstates

which should indicate something other than `State: 2'.

Also, what is the output of:

$ apt-cache policy update-inetd

> Corresponding attachment aptitude_bug.

What was the command you were trying to run? Looks like it might be:

$ aptitude install cups-client perl perl-base perl-modules

> Also, aptitude states perl-base: Conflicts: update-inetd, but this's not

Those are the details for your current version. The version you are trying
to install has added the conflict:

Bug#652013: gdm3: simple greeter sends bad timestamps in _NET_ACTIVE_WINDOW and no_focus_window (?)

2011-12-13 Thread Daniel Kahn Gillmor
Package: gdm3
Version: 3.0.4-4
Severity: normal

The following lines appear in /var/log/gdm/:0-greeter.log:

Window manager warning: Buggy client sent a _NET_ACTIVE_WINDOW message with a
timestamp of 0 for 0x147 (Login Wind)
Window manager warning: meta_window_activate called by a pager with a 0

Window manager warning: CurrentTime used to choose focus window; focus window
may not be correct.
Window manager warning: Got a request to focus the no_focus_window with a
timestamp of 0. This shouldn't happen!

It sounds to me like gdm's greeter is doing something fishy or
considered dubious.

This pair of lines in particular shows up once or twice for every
state-change of the user-chooser, from what i can tell:

Window manager warning: Buggy client sent a _NET_ACTIVE_WINDOW message with a
timestamp of 0 for 0x147 (Login Wind)
Window manager warning: meta_window_activate called by a pager with a 0
timestamp; the pager needs to be fixed.

the last two lines appear to only happen after an authenticated login,
but i'm not sure where they're happening.

I couldn't find anything in the gdm3 source that sends a
_NET_ACTIVE_WINDOW message directly, though, so perhaps the fault lies
deeper within some library; feel free to re-assign this bug in that
case.

Thanks for maintaining GNOME in Debian!

Ok, sorry, this is awkward. I plugged-in the USP-1284 again, and now it works
just the same as the RCW-602, also reporting the Device ID. This is with cups
version 1.5.0-13, released 2011-12-02, and with kernel 3.1.0-1-686-pae.

So, cups seems to be working now, for me, and I may have had a connector

Hi team,

As per policy 2.5 [0] [1], we need to change priority of nginx-extras

priority binaries at moment).

[0] According to Policy Section 2.5: Priorities packages MUST NOT

conflict with each other. In order to ensure this, the priorities of
one or more packages must be adjusted.

I'm increasingly convinced by the recent discussion on debian-devel that
doing all the (rather substantial) work required to keep this separation
working is a waste of our collective time. We're not doing a very good
job at it anyway, chasing all the library dependencies is a fair amount of
work, and things have to keep moving around as dependencies change. And
this is all to support use cases that, while real, are fairly marginal in
my estimation. This does not seem like the most effective place for us to
be spending our time.

I don't know if it's worth the effort to unify /bin and /usr/bin or the
other similar things that have been discussed from time to time, but I do
think it may be time for Debian to just officially say that we don't
support /usr on a (meaningfully) separate partition from /bin and /lib,
and that binaries in /bin may have dependencies on /usr/lib.

Bug#652011: general: Repeated pattern of FHS violation: Dependencies of /sbin and /bin, belong in /lib

2011-12-13 Thread Zachary Harris
Package: general
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 10.1.1

My understanding of the FHS would be that if a library is a dependency of a
binary in /bin or /sbin, then such library belongs in /lib, not
/usr/lib. (If
for some reason the library is also desired in /usr/lib then a sym link from
/lib to /usr/lib, but not the other way around, is acceptable.) A review of
past bug reports (e.g. #633019 and #639939 from this summer) shows that this
policy gets repeatedly violated in Debian until someone catches it.

Here is a test to reveal the current culprits on my own Squeeze
installation:
> ldd /{s,}bin/* | /bin/grep usr | cut -f1 -d"(" | sort -u
libcrypto.so.0.9.8 => /usr/lib/libcrypto.so.0.9.8
libdbus-glib-1.so.2 => /usr/lib/libdbus-glib-1.so.2
libdiscover.so.2 => /usr/lib/libdiscover.so.2
libexpat.so.1 => /usr/lib/libexpat.so.1
libfuse.so.2 => /usr/lib/libfuse.so.2
libgobject-2.0.so.0 => /usr/lib/libgobject-2.0.so.0
libgthread-2.0.so.0 => /usr/lib/libgthread-2.0.so.0
libhal.so.1 => /usr/lib/libhal.so.1
libhal-storage.so.1 => /usr/lib/libhal-storage.so.1
libnfnetlink.so.0 => /usr/lib/libnfnetlink.so.0
libnl.so.1 => /usr/lib/libnl.so.1
libntfs-3g.so.75 => /usr/lib/libntfs-3g.so.75
libntfs.so.10 => /usr/lib/libntfs.so.10
libpcsclite.so.1 => /usr/lib/libpcsclite.so.1
libssl.so.0.9.8 => /usr/lib/libssl.so.0.9.8
libz.so.1 => /usr/lib/libz.so.1

Here is one objective test of conformity to this aspect of the FHS
requirements. The command "ldd /{s,}bin/* | /bin/grep usr" (or something
equivalent) should return nothing. (Well, OK, there could be weird
exceptions
where the string "usr" appeared in the name of an essential binary or
library,
but you get my point.)

-Zach

Do you have libclamunrar from non-free installed? Clamav can't scan rar files

Sorry, no it isn't. You have to test for CONFIG_X86_32 inside of
Kbuild, and you can't use uname for this anywhere. Really, the Makefile
needs a thorough cleanup.

Also, building for a 64-bit kernel will still fail since DKMS is
configured to expect all 3 modules to be built.

I've attached a debdiff that seems to fix all of this. Feel free to
reword and cherry-pick from the patches.

Ben.

In Advance thank you so much to report it.

Sometime ago for recommendation of Jakub Wilk, I decide to maintain
python-gd in Debian Python Team[0] and I am waiting for a review. However
if you want feel free to take it and do any change[1] ( right now recognize
multiarch paths ), merge them with svn repository[2] and upload it to
unstable.

Bug#560003:

2011-12-13 Thread James
This problem, in my case, is related to the specific Prolific Technology
PL-2305 USB to IEEE-1284 Parallel Port Adapter manufactured with the PL-2305
chip. I have both a Neostar Technology Co Model: USP-1284 adapter with the
Centronics connector, and a Rosewill RCW-602 with the DB-25F connector. No
information is provided about versions or revisions for these devices.

The USP-1284 does not work, and the log has:

kernel: [50858.092105] usb 2-1: new full speed USB device number 6 using
uhci_hcd
kernel: [50858.281158] usb 2-1: New USB device found, idVendor=067b,

The RCW-602 works, and the log has:

Everything is the same, up until the "invalid or missing IEEE 1284 Device ID".
In either case, though, hp-probe fails to find the usb printer device, and so
the result of hp-probe is of no practical significance.

The command "hp-query -m'HP LaserJet 4 Plus' -a" seems to work, but hp-info
says "No devices found."

I'm not sure what software is providing the actual driver for the PL-2305, but
the module usblp is not loaded and apparently not needed. There is no device
file /dev/usb/lp0 created, but there is a device

 crw-rw-r-T 1 root lp 189, 134 Dec 13 19:20 /dev/bus/usb/002/007

lpstat -p successfully reports the printer status.

The printer drivers for the HP LaserJet 4 Plus are a separate matter.
cupstestppd complains FAIL for several of the printer drivers. I don't know
that this actually matters. Using the Postscript drivers without actual
Postscript capability in the printer makes a mess, though. The printer
wizards don't seem to always know when there is no Postscript support.

Source: squid3
Severity: normal

Apache's htpasswd tool usefull when manipulating

hashed and saltes with MD5 and SHA.

ncsa_auth should support such hashes.

they look like this

As you can see MD5 and crypt are salted. Adding support
(detection should be easy).

Documentation of httpasswd says

The SHA encryption format does not use salting: for a given password,
there is only one encrypted representation.
The crypt() and MD5 formats per‐
mute the representation by prepending a random salt string, to make
dictionary attacks against the passwords more difficult.

   The MD5 algorithm used by htpasswd is specific to the Apache software;
passwords encrypted using it will not be usable with other Web servers.

However it is good to have at least MD5 with salting in ncsa_auth. (even if it
is apache-specific).

Bug#652008: gnome-terminal: lock up after medium period with much output

2011-12-13 Thread Michael P. Soulier
Package: gnome-terminal
Version: 2.30.2-1

I have repeatedly tried to run a unit test suite in a gnome-terminal, which
produces a great deal of output to the terminal in a short period of time. On a
fairly frequent basis, gnome-terminal inexplicably hangs during this output.

Rerunning the suite in an xterm works perfectly.

Bug#652007: pulseaudio: Pulseaudio hangs mplayer and others when heavily seeking

2011-12-13 Thread Nathan A. Stine
Package: pulseaudio
Version: 1.1-2
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

I've recently noticed that when heavily seeking in mplayer (and other media
players),
pulseaudio will "get stuck" and hang the process that is playing the file. At
this point
the process is completely unresponsive and is completely killed. I was able to
attach
gdb to an mplayer session and received the following backtrace:

Thread 2 (Thread 0x7fd05b7e5700 (LWP 7133)):

I can always reproduce on any file, so long as I seek (left/right arrow keys)
enough.
In fact, simply holding down the arrow keys for a second or two always hangs
mplayer.

Starting mplayer with -ao oss to bypass pulseaudio elminates the problem.

If you need any test files or any other assistance, please let me know.

Best regards,

Bug#652006: blueman: 'Stream setup failed' on bluetooth headphone connection

2011-12-13 Thread Rémi P .
Package: blueman
Version: 1.22~bzr707-1+b1
Severity: normal
Tags: upstream

Blueman sees the headphone but cannot connect with it.
Every try returns an error(see log) saying 'Stream setup failed'.
Since the version of pulse is higher than 0.9.2X, the stream does not even
appear under pavucontrol so the headphone have been useless ever since.
Of course, PulseAudio plugin is enabled.
Other bluetooth devices than audio ones work well.

Bug#559999: Fails to show tags using UTF-8 right way, if encoding is specified

The tag is wrong. Here's a piece of xxd output of the file:
 0c0: 2154 4954 3200 5500 c598 c3ad !TIT2...U...
The last 4 bytes are the beginning of the title. We see that the byte just
before that is 00. That means that the title should be
ISO-8859-1-encoded[1]. In fact in id3v2.3 it doesn't even seem possible to
have utf-8 encoded strings. Version 2.4 of the spec does support utf-8,
but then that 00 should be 03 [2]. Changing 00 to 03 indeed solves the
problem for me.

According to a forum post [3] easytag can fix this automatically.

Regards,

Erik Massop / nesciens

[1] The Id3v2.3 spec at http://www.id3.org/id3v2.3.0 :
"Frames that allow different types of text encoding have a text encoding
description byte directly after the frame size. If ISO-8859-1 is used this
byte should be $00, if Unicode is used it should be $01."

[2] The id3v2.4.0 spec at http://www.id3.org/id3v2.4.0-structure :
"Frames that allow different types of text encoding contains a text
   encoding description byte. Possible encodings:

 $00 ISO-8859-1 [ISO-8859-1]. Terminated with $00.
$01 UTF-16 [UTF-16] encoded Unicode [UNICODE] with BOM. All
strings in the same frame SHALL have the same byteorder.
   Terminated with $00 00.
$02 UTF-16BE [UTF-16] encoded Unicode [UNICODE] without BOM.
   Terminated with $00 00.
 $03 UTF-8 [UTF-8] encoded Unicode [UNICODE]. Terminated with $00."

[3] texray at http://www.musicpd.org/forum/index.php?topic=1552.0;wap2 :
"Well, as it turned out, it is the fault of the "id3v2" tool. It was
supposed to write the tags in UTF-8, but it didn't. Maybe it doesn't
support ID3v2.4 (which is the first version of IDv2 that officially
supports UTF-8, according to Wikipedia). I checked with easytag and it it
can automatically convert older ID3v2 tags to ID3v2.4, which worked in mpd
as expected."

Bug#652005: blueman: Can not change name or alias bluetooth device name

2011-12-13 Thread Rémi P .
Package: blueman
Version: 1.22~bzr707-1+b1
Severity: wishlist
Tags: upstream

It will be nice to add the possiblity to rename or alias the name of bluetooth
devices
(perhaps by right-clicking on a device in the device list).
By now, if you connect two devices of the same model, you do not know without
checking MAC address the one you want to interact with.
And even if the two devices were of the same brand, you have to know the model
to be able to differentiate the two.
Adding this feature could solve both problems.

Mh. If it’s just these, I think no big deal. I also got an

but I’ll just try (in my valuable spare time ;-).

Bug#652003: tahoe-lafs: Missing daemon debian infraestructure

2011-12-13 Thread Ruben Pollan
Package: tahoe-lafs
Version: 1.8.3-2
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

I think tahoe-lafs will fit better on debian if it includes a
/etc/init.d/tahoe-lafs script, so we can configure it to start on boot time.

Will be nice to set up a proper user for it, with default configuration on /etc
and storage on /var. So it works like the other daemons on debian.

I was able to built it (without docs, I didn't have the tools) from the
gitorious source. http://gitorious.org/projects/emile/

It fails to build with "error: dereferencing type-punned pointer will
break strict-aliasing rules". An untested patch follows.

Some more information. I just tried with a few more
combinations.

DEBOOTSTRAP in roots .pbuilderrc: FAIL
PATH=$PATH:/script/location/ in the environment: FAIL
PATH=$PATH:/script/location/ in roots .pbuilderrc: PASS
Hard coding the path in a copy of the script: PASS

So it seems it might actually be a path issue, not a DEBOOTSTRAP one.
Not sure if the script should be changed to match the man page, or the
man page to match the script.

Relevant line is ~322.

Now that gnat in sid depends on gnat-4.6, the double build-dep on both gnat and
and gnat-4.4 makes build-deps impossible to be resolved:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
gnat-4.6: Conflicts: gnat-4.4 but 4.4.6-6 is to be installed.

Simple build-dep on gnat-4.4 fix FTBFS, however transition to gnat-4.6 is
ongoing:
http://lists.debian.org/debian-ada/2011/11/msg2.html
and http://lists.debian.org/debian-ada/2011/11/msg00015.html is not clear
regading policy of build-deps and ada.

arguably, d-conf's ./configure script should also be failing if
pkg-config --cflags gtk+-3.0 returns a non-zero error code (feel free
to clone this bug and reassign the clone to d-conf if you see fit).

libgdk-pixbuf2.0-dev seems to be the only package i have installed on
this machine who mentions libpng12 (via Requires.private) in its
pkg-config file, though libcairo2-dev refers to the bare libpng in
cairo.pc's Requires.private, and in cairo-png.pc's Requires section.

Maybe if Cairo can use the bare libpng here then it's save to use it
in gdkpixbuf as well? or if gdkpixbuf is doing the right thing, maybe
cairo's pkg-config files are too lax, potentially leading to a nasty
multi-library linkage during the transition?

I don't know enough about pkg-config or the inner workings of these
tools to say; feel free to explain and reassign if you think this bug
could be re-assigned to another package.

Thanks for your work maintaining libpng in debian! I hope we can make the
transition to 1.5 soon.

Regards,

Bug#652000: /usr/bin/pbuilder-dist: pbuilder-dist ignores environment and has no way to set a custom pbuilderrc

2011-12-13 Thread Karl Goetz
Package: ubuntu-dev-tools
Version: 0.101
Severity: important
File: /usr/bin/pbuilder-dist

Hi,
Because pbuilder-dist is available in squeeze, but qemu-debootstrap
isn't, I've downloaded the script from bug 572952 and I'm trying to use
it with pbuilder-dist. Unfortunately, despite saying "install or change
DEBOOTSTRAP option" it seems to ignore the environment and the users
.pbuilderrc. Could this be changed please? It makes it excessively hard
to use the thing, to the extent that you need to be able to edit roots
pbuilderrc.

thanks,
kk

Bug#651999: /usr/bin/pbuilder-dist: man 1 pbuilder-dist refers to non existant packages

2011-12-13 Thread Karl Goetz
Package: ubuntu-dev-tools
Version: 0.101
Severity: normal
File: /usr/bin/pbuilder-dist

Hi,
The man page includes this text:
This optional parameter will attempt to construct a chroot in a
foreign architecture. For some architecture pairs (e.g. i386 on
an amd64 install), the chroot will be created natively. For
others (e.g. armel on an i386 install), qemu-static and binfmt-
misc will be used.

qemu-static and binfmt-misc don't appear as packages or commands on
squeeze, and I can't find references to them on other releases either.

Bug#651655: slang-slirp: FTBFS: multiarch path

2011-12-13 Thread Simon Paillard
tags 651655 + patch
thanks

Hi,

This FTBFS is a matter of path to multiarch slang lib, for all archs
(not only s390x/armhf).

However, a nmu would be useless for the moment, as there is another
FTBFS remaining: #623637.

Regards.

Bug#628955: ipcalc: lacks IPv6 support and doesn't mention IPv4-only in description

2011-12-13 Thread Ruben Pollan
Package: ipcalc
Version: 0.41-2
Followup-For: Bug #628955

As some blogs comment on the web[0] the ipcalc of fedora seems to have ipv6
support. But I check the upstream web page and don't seems to have it, I guess
is a custom fedora patch.

Will be great to see it implemented on debian.

Bug#203115: Block buffering patch

2011-12-13 Thread Thomas Dickey
On Tue, Dec 13, 2011 at 04:34:45PM -0500, Thomas Dickey wrote:
> I did use memchr in my fix - will check/see if your other changes make a

Looking at the report again, I see that I'd not followed up noting a fix.
But I was looking at current code, which uses memchr in that position.
The change is noted here:

20090920
+ two changes for embedded nulls, allows FS to be either a null or
  contain a character class with null, e.g., '\000' or '[ \000]':

+ modify built-in regular expression functions to accept embedded
nulls.

+ modify input reader FINgets() to accept embedded nulls in data read
from files. Data read from standard input is line-buffered, and is
still null-terminated.

The actual check-in comment was:

REV:1.13fin.c 2009/09/13 21:40:12 tom

modify so FINgets() can return embedded nulls in data read from file.

For what it's worth, reporting bugs against Debian's version of mawk is
a pointless exercise. But I do read the reports in case a new bug is
reported there.

This error should be fixed with sympa 6.1.7~dfsg-2 which is already in
unstable, could you try to upgrade your system with the latest version ?

I am saying that Zotero (version 2.1.10) does run when installed from
within iceweasel, _but_ Zotero doesn't run when installed system-wide
from the Debian package xul-ext-zotero. Thus there is a problem with
the Debian package xul-ext-zotero and this is what this bug report is
about.

Bug#601757: Info received (Please apply the patch to mount cgroup automatically)

2011-12-13 Thread Marcus Osdoba

Hi,
If I got that right, it's ok for the maintainer of ulatencyd, if the
subsystems were mounted into it's own subdirectories?

If so, I like to propose an intitv script which does it.

When reading the introduction to cgroup in the kernel documentation, it
is best pratice to mount tmpfs under /sys/fs/cgroup and create a
subdirectory for every subsystem.

Please see attachement for the script. CGROUPSUBSYSTEMS must be set to
yes in /etc/default/tmpfs. So cgroup subsystems are not mounted by
default, which does not break existent configurations done via
/etc/fstab and one can switch it on/off easily.
The script was tested on Squeeze with 2.6.39-bpo60-2. Activated with
"update-rc.d mountcgroupsubsys.sh defaults".

Problem: It is very cgroup specific and is possibily misplaced in
initscripts?

Marcus

Thanks for the update. It builds and works OK! Looking forward to a new
upstream and an updated (0.3.17) Debian package.

Bug#411585: pinging bug

2011-12-13 Thread Nicholas Bamber
Regis,
Thanks for responding.

Yes I had cdebconf installed for a while and I was trying to use it. I
was motivated to try it out after having issues during the recent perl
transition. If cdebconf could make perl transitions smoother I think
that would be a big plus in its favour.

I would appreciate it if you would make sure that there was a bug
report called something like "cdebconf not ready for general use" and
all the issues with using cdebconf in a general way, such as this one,
were marked as blocking that bug. Or perhaps all those bug reports could
be tagged in some way.

Bug#651995: Hurd: please backport upstream r3770 (fix test_option_c of bsdcpio_test)

2011-12-13 Thread Pino Toscano
Package: libarchive
Version: 2.8.5-4
Severity: normal
User: debian-h...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: hurd

Hi,

at the moment, one assertion in test_option_c of bsdcpio_test is
triggered on Hurd, because of a typo in the assertion itself.
I reported it upstream[1] and this was fixed in trunk and then
backported to the 2.8 branch as r3770; could you please backport this
change to the Debian packaging?

Bug#651993: dpkg-mergechangelogs fails if any changelog contains an invalid version

2011-12-13 Thread Martin Packman
See attached patch making the dpkg-mergechangelogs only tolerate bad
versions, leaving the existing strict handling in Dpkg::Version.

I'm a little rusty on perl, but happy to change or update things as
requested. I assume the change in general is acceptable as it looks
like the code currently tries to do something like this but doesn't
quite get it right.

Notes on the patch:

* Moves construction of Dpkg::Version objects upwards into the main
merge loop rather than inside the compare. This prevents over-warning
about the same invalid versions and actually gets a (just barely)
measurable speedup.

* I'm unconvinced by the current compare logic when one version is
undefined, but have left it as it was preexisting (but inactive).
Always returning 0 seems more suitable as that then does no
reordering.

* The added test is very simplistic currently, if there are particular
things we worry about with how the merge should be handled it could be
elaborated. Should I example.com out the data? It's just copied from
the original bug report currently.

Bug#614143: os-prober: generated linux entries don't use UUIDs for root= parameter

2011-12-13 Thread Marcin Konarski
Package: os-prober

Dear Maintainer,
Issuing update-grub command sometimes creates menu entries

My CentOS likes to name my drive at random "sda" or "sdb"
so entry mentioned above likes to cause CentOS boot to fail.

You'll always have some uid0-people who have the technical possibility
to read everything on a machine. You'll have to trust them or not.

I don't think that it'll work, and if it will work, i worry that it
will not be for the good of Debian, because of the closeness.

I'm not happy to have such things on the official platform...

But however: formorer wrote down some things, so i'll watch what will
happen for now.

Bug#203115: Block buffering patch

Subject: Bug#203115: Block buffering patch

tag 203115 +patch

Hi,

I could reproduce this bug, the problem shows up when the input includes NUL
chars, as the functions used by mawk are expecting C strings. Which ends up in
a malloc read loop till EOF is reached, on EOF mawk would process only one
of the read lines. If the file is large enough (or data is being read from a
infinite device such as /dev/urandom) the OOM killer would do its job.

Replacing the call to strchr with memchr fixes part of the issues, the rest of
the patch deals with the buffer to avoid dropping what was read.
In the patch there's also a small test for this issues.

This patch fixes only the block buffering part (reading from a file), reading
from stdin is made with fgets which would fail if the input include a NUL
char.

Thanks,

Bug#650082: debian-companies list

2011-12-13 Thread Don Armstrong
On Tue, 13 Dec 2011, Michael Richardson wrote:

First, if anyone is going to be archiving it publicly, then there's no
reason why Debian shouldn't be archiving it.

Secondly, the policy of archival or non-archival has to be resolved
before list creation, as altering the policy requires agreement from
too many people. [For example, if the list was to be embargoed for a
period of time, with archives available publicly after an embargo, or
similar.]

Finally, limited-subscription lists always generate a problem with
deciding who is able to be subscribed. For example, you obviously
couldn't have a discussion about Company A's negotiations with Debian
if Company A's competitors were also subscribed. The only way this
would work is if the list was set up like -private, and only DDs (or
vetted individuals) were allowed to be subscribed. Even that could
lead to some problems where DDs head (or work for) companies (for
example, Credativ and Canonical could potentially have inside
information that was not easily available to companies which had not
hired DDs.)

The idea behind the list is great, but I think the practical problems
of a closed list may outweigh the benefits. [It'd probably also be
reasonable to broach this on -project once a subscriber policy and/or
archival policy was worked out.]

Bug#651993: dpkg-mergechangelogs fails if any changelog contains an invalid version

2011-12-13 Thread Martin Packman
Package: dpkg
Version: 1.16.1.2
Severity: normal

As reported downstream in launchpad, dpkg-mergechangelogs fails trying to merge
the gcc debian changelog:

Reproduce with the attatchments on that bug, and:

$ dpkg-mergechangelogs changelog.BASE changelog.OTHER changelog.THIS

This is caused by this block appearing, which as an invalid version:

egcs (ss-970814-1) experimental; urgency=low

  * Initial packaging (of initial snapshot!)

 -- Galen Hazelwood Wed, 20 Aug 1997 00:36:28 +

This particular issue was introduced in dpkg 1.16.0.1 - specifically the
changeset:

0cacb0c3a1d1f837c957f3917a040ace6d60f9e7
Dpkg::Version: update version_check to forbid versions starting with non
digits

So, the change was deliberate, but the effect on dpkg-mergechangelogs seems
unintended.

Note that this bug is not present on my system with dpkg 1.15.8.12 so in some
senses
it's a regression, though invalid versions were not explicitly handled then
either.

2011-12-13 Thread Stefan Sobernig

Sven,

Thx for taking of uploading!

Uploaded but it FTBFS.

Yes, there are several .o and .so files left over by the build system.
Until that's fixed I could offer a very quick and ugly workaround (attached).

I refrain from uploading that right now, in case you can come up with
something more appropriate.

Interesting. I am a little puzzled why these build artifacts remain in
the first place; and why this poses a problem for this upload, for the
first time (provided that I haven't missed the obvious).

2.20.1 is now available in unstable. This will migrate to testing
in due course.

Is there any plan to redo this with current libmount? I'm planning on
making the /etc/mtab switch to /proc/mounts this week (in experimental)
and in the following week in unstable.

Bug#651992: cl-aserve: Should depend on cl-acl-compat and cl-htmlgen

2011-12-13 Thread Rupert Swarbrick
Package: cl-aserve
Version: 1.2.42+cvs.2010.02.08-dfsg-1
Severity: serious

After installing cl-aserve (installed for cl-rss), with SBCL
2:1.0.54.0-1, loading it doesn't work because it depends on
cl-acl-compat and cl-htmlgen (see line 74 of the .asd), but these
weren't installed because cl-aserve doesn't depend on them.

Installing cl-acl-compat and cl-htmlgen fixes the issue.

The point is not to make it not-archived, the point is to delay the
archive while the group figures out what's it's policy is. If some

There are several problems:
 1. you specified “dh -with” instead of “dh --with”. That one seems to
be harmless though, and dh is picking up the sequence.
 2. the check in configure.in is incorrect:
  $ ./config.guess
  i686-unknown-kfreebsd8.2-gnu
in my previous mail, I meant to give a hint, not a definitive answer..
 3. more importantly, upstream's make clean runs ./configure, and given
2., cleaning fails, along with the whole build.

Next time, I suggest using a GNU/kFreeBSD porter box to make sure your
package builds fine. We have {io,asdfasdf}.debian.net for that.

Replacing 'kfreebsd-*' with '*kfreebsd-*' in kfreebsd.patch fixes 2;
once 3. is fixed, the package should build fine. I'm tagging this bug
report accordingly (making cleaning errors non-fatal might be a way to
work around 3. until you slap your upstream).

Thus the bug you report is upstream and has nothing to do with the package
(which is btw for version 2.1.8 right now, not 2.1.10). I am closing it.

Please refer to the Zotero forums: http://forums.zotero.org/3/

Given the many confirmations that downgrading fixed this issue, I'm
reassigning these bugs to libc6.
So far this seems to be x86_64 specific, so this might be due to
patches/amd64/cvs-pthread_cond_wait.diff.

As this affects a lot of users, I'm bumping the severity, so it doesn't
migrate to testing and users get proper advance warning in case they
have apt-listbugs installed.

Cheers,
Michael

information there should be moved to the package itself, so that the
wiki page can be removed entirely (except for the pointer to the
included documentation in the lxc package; patches welcome :).

> Thanks for pointing out the misunderstanding.

it turned out that this would have been spotted much earlier if you
would have listed the exact command you're using in the first place.

a good advice seems to be for future bug reports in general, that you do
make it as easy as possible for the maintainer to understand what you
did and where you experienced problems by starting with the exact
commands that you used.

Bug#648933: Orphaning emile

2011-12-13 Thread Thorsten Glaser
Hi,

I can try to update the package and build it with gcc-4.4
(which is our current standard although people would love
to switch to gcc-4.6), if that works.

However, I cannot test the resulting binaries. Laurent or
Finn, I’d need your help with that then. Preferably before
uploading, of course ;-)

I do not volunteer to maintain it after fixing these issues.

So if my understanding is correct, what happened is that the first time
you imported your new OFX file, you incorrectly associated it with the
old checking account. And the problem is that GnuCash does not provide a
convenient way to change the association between OFX files and accounts,
as described in the upstream bug report that you mentionned.

I’m therefore changing the title of this bug to match that of the
upstream bug report, and I’m also lowering the severity to wishlist
since it is essentially a request for a new GUI element.

Best,

Bug#651990: gsettings-desktop-schemas: Please mark gsettings-desktop-schemas Multi-Arch: foreign

2011-12-13 Thread Steve Langasek
Package: gsettings-desktop-schemas
Version: 3.2.0-2
Severity: normal
Tags: patch
User: ubuntu-de...@lists.ubuntu.com
Usertags: origin-ubuntu precise ubuntu-patch

Hi folks,

I've just pushed a patch to the gsettings-desktop-schemas package in Ubuntu
to mark it Multi-Arch: foreign, in compliance with the plan for multiarch
described at . This package has
various library reverse dependencies, such as glib-networking, so this is
needed for full multiarch support in wheezy (in particular, for wine).

Thanks for considering this patch.

Bug#651930: request for support of 3.0 standalone

2011-12-13 Thread Theodore Lytras
Thanks for your request.

I may indeed get to packaging and maintaining the standalone version of
Zotero, but right now it's a lower priority than the Zotero LibreOffice plugin
(still on my to-do list) and the Zotero Iceweasel extension (which needs a
small update).

Please also note that other people have marked the standalone version as ITP
(Benjamin Mako Hill, see bug #504058 msg #37), and also that 3.0 is still
beta. Hopefully by the time it reaches final release, one of us will get to
package it.

Theodore

In that case, the archive would be somewhere else. We already have
found more than 10 inofficial archives of our lists.

No objection on my part, of course. And apologies for acting on this
with the previous NMU well after it was actually useful to do so. I
doubt you need my help to proceed, but in case you do (e.g. for
testing), let me know

> It might need additional logic to remove /var/run/klog after

Let me point out that all this is about sysklogd, which is no longer the
default syslog on Debian since quite a while. (Which explains the steep
drop of popularity of the package in popularity contest.) That is no
reason to not clean up what has been introduced by previous changes.
Nonetheless if we really want to clean up, it'd probably make sense to
add some warning/hint that suggests to migrate to rsyslog (even only if
in NEWS.Debian), our default syslog since quite a while.

Cheers.

Bug#651988: libopencv-core-dev: error on upgrade: trying to overwrite '/usr/share/opencv/OpenCVConfig.cmake'

Hi,

Maybe the version in Replaces/Breaks needs to be adjusted?
