Bug#392953: [NONFREE-DOC:GFDL] package contains non-free documentation
The corresponding bug in gcc-4.1 was #384036, which lists gcc/doc/gcc.texi and probably others. Matthias, could you please comment on whether there are any others known that need to be removed in order to resolve this bug? Ron, is there any chance that mingw32 could be changed to build against the current gcc-4.1-source package, eliminating the need to prune these sources separately? Hmm, probably not a change to be making at this point in the release cycle... :/ -- Steve Langasek Give me a lever long enough and a Free OS Debian Developer to set it on, and I can move the world. Bug#398196: qdbm: FTBFS: upstream build rules look in $(HOME) for includes
Package: qdbm Version: 1.8.33-2 Severity: serious Justification: FTBFS Tags: patch Hi Fumitoshi, qdbm is failing to build on alpha and mips because the upstream software believes it's appropriate to use -I$(HOME)/include as a default include path, and if gcc is given an include path that it can't access, it will fail: [...] # Add here commands to configure the package. CFLAGS=-Wall -g -O2 CPPFLAGS= JAVAC=gcj-wrapper JAR=fastjar ./configure --host=alpha-linux-gnu --build=alpha-linux-gnu -prefix=/usr --mandir=\${prefix}/share/man --infodir=\${prefix}/share/info --includedir=\${prefix}/include/qdbm --enable-pthread --enable-zlib --enable-iconv --enable-java --with-gcj # # Configuring QDBM version 1.8.74 (pthread) (zlib) (iconv). # checking for alpha-linux-gnu-gcc... alpha-linux-gnu-gcc checking for C compiler default output file name... configure: error: C compiler cannot create executables See `config.log' for more details. [...] You can find a full build log at http://buildd.debian.org/fetch.cgi?pkg=qdbmarch=alphaver=1.8.74-1stamp=1162755342. It is wrong for a package build to assume anything about the contents or use of the directory pointed to by $HOME. In the case of autobuilders which use sudo (e.g., the Debian autobuilders for alpha, mips, and mipsel), the $HOME directory may exist and be unreadable as a result of other misbehaving packages which create it as the root user. In other cases, the directory $HOME/include may exist, but it may contain headers that it's totally inappropriate for a Debian package to use when building! As a workaround, please find attached a patch which explicitly sets $HOME to a local directory inside the build tree when building, to solve the problem of build failures or contaminated builds. This bug affects both the testing and unstable versions of qdbm, and it also currently prevents the fix for bug #367374 in hyperestraier from reaching testing, so your help in fixing this promptly would be appreciated. I will NMU this package directly to unstable in 2 days if I don't hear back from you, because the hyperestraier bug has been stalled in unstable now for quite some time. This is how the drivers should be loaded usually around crcdisk.sys: Loaded driver \Windows\System32\Drivers\spldr.sys Loaded driver \Windows\System32\Drivers\Mup.sys Loaded driver \Windows\system32\drivers\disk.sys Loaded driver \Windows\system32\drivers\CLASSPNP.SYS Loaded driver \Windows\system32\drivers\crcdisk.sys Loaded driver \SystemRoot\system32\drivers\Wdf01000.sys Loaded driver \SystemRoot\system32\drivers\intelppm.sys Loaded driver \SystemRoot\system32\drivers\uagp35.sys One can notice the path change right after loading crcdisk.sys. What is SystemRoot? There isn't such directory on NTFS. Microsoft says Set the current directory to the systemroot folder of the Windows installation you are logged on to. There is also one important thing to know. The windows boot process is an old legacy. It's not a modern one, for example, what Linux has. In the early boot phrase a mini ntfs driver loads the real drivers and at some point the boot process starts to use them. Apparently this point is right after crcdisk.sys, so that's why so many people have problem there. Millions of things can go wrong during the driver switch and they indeed do go wrong but the fault will always point to crcdisk.sys. All posts I've seen was old, or if it wasn't then it used old Vista Beta. GParted was used with Vista RC1 in the below article. Same hang but chkdsk fixed the boot problem: http://opensource.apress.com/article/163/taking-a-look-at-vista-part-iii If one could send me the two ntfs images, before and after running chkdsk, The problem for me is how to run chkdsk after the resize. If you can tell me how I'll do it. then I could add the needed support, suppose the problem is indeed due NTFS changes. Instructions how to create the images are here: http://wiki.linux-ntfs.org/doku.php?id=ntfsclone#store_only_ntfs_metadata How about I do this before and after the resize? But the most important thing would be still to reproduce the problem with the latest Vista, so we could confirm that we indeed have a problem. Which means that we still haven't received any information how ntfsresize works with the latest Vista. Just in case anybody reading this would be interested: If anyone has a Vista installation that I could destroy in Sydney in order to confirm the issue on the final version, drop me a message! Btw, it would be also nice to test ntfsclone, if one is interested: 1) ntfsclone --overwrite vista.img vista_partition 2) zero the entire vista partition (not the disk!): dd if=/dev/zero of=vista_partition 3) ntfsclone --overwrite vista_partition vista.img 4) vista should boot fine Yep, tried that and it works fine. :-) Cheers, Szaka -- Andree Leidenfrost @ Debian Developer Sydney - Australia signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part

Please see bug #398196 for the full explanation of why this is a bug in this package. I have confirmed that the attached patch fixes the problem for hyperestraier as well, by explicitly setting $HOME to a local directory inside the build tree when building. So, you are maybe looking for a solution which is supposed to work only in RC1. The same is true for not being able to boot. This may be solved only in RC2 but not earlier. Currently the situation is like if we're trying to solve a problem in development kernel version 2.5.12 which nobody else could reproduce with the latest, stable kernels version 2.6.18.2. Btw, still nobody could provide info related to the latast Vista. I guess it's time to disable Vista support due to lack of interest and to be on the safe side. Bug#398219: systemimager-server: si_getimage fails to get /dev when client is runnung udev
Package: systemimager-server Version: 3.6.3dfsg1-1 Severity: serious si_getimage does not download /dev (or rather, it should download /dev/.static/dev) when the client is running udev. When an install is attempted on such an image, the bootloader can't install because of course there are no entries in /dev in the chroot in the target. As a workaround, I have added /dev to the overrides tree for my image. However, systemimager really should be smart enough to download /dev/.static/dev and store it as /dev for machines running udev. Otherwise you wind up with unbootable images. Note that udev is default for etch. That is why I am setting this bug report RC, but feel free to differ. The simplest solution is to just store the acl files as /etc/greylistd/exim-{rcpt,data}-acl and ask the exim4 maintainers to put an .include_if_exists /etc/greylistd/exim-$acl-acl at the right moment in the default acl. Then you can manage your own file as you like, and not break unrelated software. I have pinged Zugschlus on IRC about this, but not heard back yet. I'm planning to upload a new version of greylistd based on this. I'd like to do it with synchronisation with the exim4 maintainers, so I'm cloning and assigning this bug to them in order to track this down. Please keep me in touch as soon as you're ok to this change. The files would be /etc/greylistd/exim-rcpt-acl /etc/greylistd/exim-data-acl and should be included from: /etc/exim4/conf.d/acl/30_exim4-config_check_rcpt /etc/exim4/conf.d/acl/40_exim4-config_check_data Cheers, -- Julien Danjou .''`. If you disagree with this, because this bug is reported for several packages at once, it seems better to discuss this on debian-legal, in this thread: http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.linux.debian.devel.legal/25993 The severity is serious, because this violates the Debian policy http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-archive.html#s-dfsg. Debian bug tracking system administrator (administrator, Debian Bugs database) ---BeginMessage--- Package: openswan Version: 1:2.4.6+dfsg-1 Severity: serious Hi! This bug has been filed on multiple packages, and general discussions are kindly requested to take place on debian-legal or debian-devel in the thread with Subject: Non-free IETF RFC/I-Ds in source packages. It seems this source package contains the following files from the IETF under non-free license terms: openswan-2.4.6/doc/std/draft-beaulieu-ike-xauth-02.txt openswan-2.4.6/doc/std/draft-dukes-ike-mode-cfg-02.txt The license on RFC/I-Ds is not DFSG-free, see: * http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=199810 * http://release.debian.org/removing-non-free-documentation * http://wiki.debian.org/NonFreeIETFDocuments The etch release policy says binary and source packages must each be free: * http://release.debian.org/etch_rc_policy.txt The severity is serious, because this violates the Debian policy: * http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-archive.html#s-dfsg There are (at least) three ways to fix this problem. In order of preference: 1. Ask the author of the RFC to re-license the RFC under a free license. A template for this e-mail request can be found at http://wiki.debian.org/NonFreeIETFDocuments 2. Remove the non-free material from the source, e.g., by re-packaging the upstream archive and adding a 'dfsg' version name to it. 3. Move the package to non-free. I went over many packages looking for names of likely non-free files, and there may be false positives. If this is the case for your package, I'm sorry for the noise. I'll modify the scripts to take into account false positives when I learn of them, and publish the list of exceptions under Known exceptions at http://wiki.debian.org/NonFreeIETFDocuments. Bug#398240: splashy freeze on shutdown.
Package: splashy Version: 0.1.8.1-3.1 Severity: critical Justification: breaks unrelated software Hello, I had trouble on halt/shutdown on my box for several days. I track it done on splashy. No enabling splashy with by ex. ENABLE=0 in /etc/default/splashy is fine. When splashy is enable, the box won't shutdown anymore, it just stays frozen in different state of graphic screen (got a blue screen yesterday). This freeze seems to happen earlier since my upgrade to the last debian kernel. I don't have any idea how to dig in this, but I'm willing to follow instructions. $ lspci | grep VGA 01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV18 [GeForce4 MX 440 AGP 8x] (rev a2) @+, Fab -- System Information: Debian Release: 4.0 APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.18-2-k7 Locale: LANG=fr_FR.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=fr_FR.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages splashy depends on: ii libc62.3.6.ds1-8 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libgcc1 1:4.1.1-19 GCC support library Versions of packages splashy recommends: ii lsb-base 3.1-19 Linux Standard Base 3.1 init scrip -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Debian bug tracking system administrator (administrator, Debian Bugs database) ---BeginMessage--- Package: beast Version: 0.6.6-6.1 Severity: serious Hi, When beast is rebuilt, the /usr/share/mime/audio/x-bse.xml and /usr/share/mime/audio/x-bsewave.xml file disappears from the package. This means that when the security team will rebuild the packages (if needed), the file will disappear, and users will be confused. On some non-i386 architectures (such as powerpc), these files are already missing. I think this bug is comparable to a FTBFS, hence setting it to serious severity. If these files are unimportant or useless, feel free to downgrade the severity. Debian bug tracking system administrator (administrator, Debian Bugs database) ---BeginMessage--- Package: cvsnt Version: 2.5.03.2382-2 Severity: serious Hi, When cvsnt is rebuilt, the files in /usr/lib/cvsnt/database/ disappear from the package. This means that when the security team will rebuild the packages (if needed), the file will disappear, and users will be confused. Adding unixodbc-dev and libpq-dev to the build-depends seems to fix the problem. I think this bug is comparable to a FTBFS, hence setting it to serious severity. On the other hand, those files are currently only available on the powerpc and mipsel architecture, so they may be unwanted. In that case, feel free to downgrade the severity. But you still should fix this with a proper call to the ./configure script. Bug#392774: wormux: blocks the whole X session when GNU touches the first object
On Sun, Nov 12, 2006 at 03:11:44AM +0200, Tuukka Hastrup wrote: - while(angle -M_PI) angle += M_PI; - while(angle M_PI) angle -= M_PI; + angle = fmod(angle, M_PI); This patch is simply wrong. What you want to do is to reduce the argument to [-pi, pi (or -pi, pi] if you want, it doesn't matter which side is inclusive), so you can represent the entire unit circle. In particular, you want pi+a (where a is a small positive number) to be reduced to (-pi)+a; your version reduces it to a. The issue gets meddled a bit by the fact that fmod(x, y) reduces x to be in the range -y, y (not [0, y as one might expect), in a perhaps not entirely intuitive way (in general, fmod(-x, y) = -fmod(x, y) for positive x and y). So what you want is something more along the lines of angle = fmod(angle, 2.0*M_PI); // [0, 2pi or -2pi, 0], depending on // sign of ANGLE if (angle 0.0) angle += 2.0*M_PI; // [0, 2pi if (angle = M_PI) angle -= 2.0*M_PI; // [-pi, pi Untested, though, and you might want to change the 0.0 to -M_PI to avoid stuff like -pi/2 to be moved up to the positive side and then back again. /* Steinar */ -- Homepage: http://www.sesse.net/ -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#395863: wmaker: FocusNextKey from the system-wide configuration invalid after upgrade
On Sat, Oct 28, 2006 at 11:34:31AM +0200, Josip Rodin wrote: I see that /etc/WindowMaker/WindowMaker defines: FocusNextKey = Mod1+Tab; Actually, /etc/WindowMaker/WindowMaker doesn't mean anything; it's not shipped in the package, and it doesn't appear to be searched anywhere. What you probably mean is /etc/GNUstep/Defaults/WindowMaker, and it has no FocusNextKey. In fact, this is bug #394802, which is priority important -- I'm not sure if this should be RC or not, but given the amount of discussion in that bug I don't think an NMU is in-order just yet. (Also, one would probably have to fix #397412 for a meaningful NMU, if it's not already fixed.) /* Steinar */ -- Homepage: http://www.sesse.net/ -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#395917: babygimp: doesn't work with current version of perl-tk
On 11/12/06, Florent Bayle [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: package babygimp tags 395917 + patch thanks Hi, here is a patch to fix this bug. Hi, Florent, Thanks for the patch! You definitely solved the problem with starting the script. I made a few other changes, and was then able to successfully open an existing XPM file . (A patch relative to yours is attached.) Unfortunately, the program still doesn't work properly, so I have to leave this bug open. When working in a new image, I can't consistently make the cursor draw any pixels. I did coax it into a partially working state a few times -- once where it worked more-or-less normally and once where cursor clicks seemed to result in 2-4 random pixels in the image -- but most of the time drawing with the cursor doesn't seem to do anything. Do you have any interest in debugging this further? If you do, I would really appreciate it. If not, I understand, and appreciate your help in getting me this far. Thanks again, KEN -- Kenneth J.
