Control: tag -1 wheezy moreinfo Hi, Nobuhiro Iwamatsu iwama...@debian.org (2013-10-07): Package: release.debian.org Severity: normal User: release.debian@packages.debian.org Usertags: pu I'd like to propose an upgrade of opencv. opencv distributed in wheezy includes source code of non-free (#724920). I want to solve this problem. Source code of the target is the code for test. It does not affect the actual working. I attached debdiff. Could you consider this change suitable for stable-proposed-updates? (for the records, we usually prefer when bugs are fixed in testing / unstable before considering updates in stable.) Anyway, if the files indeed got relicensed under a suitable license, why should they get removed from an earlier release? At best we could ship a package with updated headers and licensing info to reflect the facts all those files are actually OK? Mraw, KiBi. signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#725731: RM: irssi-plugin-otr/0.3-2
Hi, tl;dr: I support Antoine's proposal to drop from Squeeze and Wheezy any OTR client or plugin that supports both OTRv1 and OTRv2. I strongly doubt we're still shipping anything that supports v1 only, but it would be wise to check. OTRv1 is susceptible to downgrade attacks (if my memory is correct). Some more background info, in case it matters, or if someone is curious: OTRv1 has various security issues known for years, that were fixed in the v2 protocol. Any client supporting both OTRv1 and OTRv2 (such as pidgin-otr 3.x) is subject to downgrade attacks. So, the only safe way these days is to only support OTRv2. It took a while to obsolete older v1-only software, but now I think the time has come when we can reasonably expect v2-only to work for everyone. (Probably OT as far as the release team is concerned: it might be worth filing CVE's against the clients that still support v1 and v2. Antoine, do you want to ask the OTR developers what's their take on it?) I have been asked by numerous users to remove xchat-otr from squeeze, so here it the formal request. I am going to backport the irssi-otr plugin to wheezy soon, if if there are enough requests, to squeeze-sloppy-backports too. FWIW, I had in mind to do basically the same for pidgin-otr, including the RM request, now that the libotr transition is over. (And no, I've not talked to the maintainer yet, not filed any bug report yet, and I've no idea if they're aware of the big picture in which their specific package is taking part. Will do.) After we gave you a go, you would upload the new library and we would deal with binNMUs. Now that the transition started already, please make sure your reverse dependencies are OK with that change, and report back, so that we schedule binNMUs, or so that you get reverse dependencies updated to deal with the new library if needed. Hi Cyril, I'm sorry but I've been busy lately (libtorrent-rasterbar has been NMUed two times in the meanwhile). AFAICS, the current status of reverse-deps in unstable is: 1) flush: builds fine, 2) qbittorrent: FTBFS, needs upload to unstable of the version in experimental (3.0.9) or higher, 3) fatrat: FTBFS, but the root cause seems deeper than what I expected (maybe it needs to be patched for qt compatibility, or dropped at all). On Sun, Oct 06, 2013 at 09:52:17AM +0200, Niels Thykier wrote: Hi, This is a friendly reminder. If you are listed below, then the listed packages of yours will be automatically removed from testing within 15 days. The first batch of automatic removals will happen in about 8 days. Please remember that fixing your RC bug(s) can sometimes be as simple as correcting the metadata of the bugs (see also #725321[0]) or (where inflated) downgrade the severity of the bug. This mail was a one-time public service annoucement; I *do not* intend to send out reminders in the future. Remember that you can pull the same data from [1] or [2]. I am concerned that in the event a package is removed from testing, the people most interested with restoring the package will miss the removal, since the package will stay installed on their systems. This, then, cause stable releases to be missing packages that users are depending on, which reduce the value of the distribution. This is not a new problem, and it is not entirely clear whether such early removal will reduce or increase this issue. However we should address it if we want Debian stable releases to be something users can rely on. So while it is possible that the _maintainer_ is not needing a friendly remainder, other interested third-party might. Bug#725748: pu: package netcfg/1.108
Package: release.debian.org Severity: normal User: release.debian@packages.debian.org Usertags: pu wheezy Hi, (first off, sorry for being so late. I would understand punting that until 7.3, etc.) due to check's being broken (#712140) and netcfg's trying to use its pkgconfig file in its master branch, netcfg's #717449 is still unfixed in unstable. The fix I suggested was tested live by Michael, though, and Philipp happily pushed it to git. That's why it doesn't look too insane to me to try and get that into stable now, to lower user surprise when it comes to autoconfigured network after installation. Bug#725751: pu: package iso-scan/1.43
Package: release.debian.org Severity: normal Tags: wheezy User: release.debian@packages.debian.org Usertags: pu Hi, here's another tiny update I'd like to see in stable. Due to a simple error in the state machine, asking the installer to perform a full search (“2nd pass”) to find an ISO image harder would lead back to the 1st pass. This issue was user-reported, user-patched, and fixed in unstable almost a month ago. I think this request can be put in the “nice to have even though not critical” bucket, so definitely OK to delay until 7.3 (yet small enough to be considered for 7.2 though). Re: Dropped binary package: python-aeidon
Hi KiBi, Ansgar opened #714063 a while back for us and there was some discussion about this bug on the debian-python list at the time. The choices appear to be limited to: (a) upload translate-toolkit with support for translating subtitle files disabled (b) upload an older version of python-aeidon as a different source package (or put an embedded copy in translate-toolkit... yum) and live with the duplication of code and what amounts to a python2-only fork of aeidon. I don't know how widely used the ability to convert to and from subtitle formats is so I don't really know the scope of the impact of dropping python- aeidon support. This is used, for example, in the po2sub/sub2po commands in translate-toolkit which then allows subtitle translators to use the normal range of po editors (virtaal/pootle/poedit/lokalize/etc). Popcon tells me that lots of people have the old python-aeidon installed but that is just because they have translate-toolkit installed [0]. Neither (a) nor (b) is a nice choice which is why I've left this fester while hoping that an option (c) would occur to me. Translate toolkit's upstream is aware of the problem as it will affect them in more places in the long term, but they can always just tell people to get the older version of aeidon from pipy; I've not yet got a response from them. Any advice on (a) vs (b) or a possible (c) from the great and the good of d- release gratefully received. cheers Stuart [0] popcon data gaupol: installed: 2171 translate-toolkit: installed: 5359 python-aeidon: installed: 5692 python3-aeidon: installed: 100 -- Stuart Prescotthttp://www.nanonanonano.net/ stu...@nanonanonano.net Debian Developer http://www.debian.org/ stu...@debian.org GPG fingerprintBE65 FD1E F4EA 08F3 23D4 3C6D 9FE8 B8CD 71C5 D1A8 GPG fingerprint90E2 D2C1 AD14 6A1B 7EBB 891D BBC1 7EBB 1396 F2F7 signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part.
