[DUG]: ntdll.dll

2001-06-14 Thread Siegfried Kirchmair

Hi,

Sorry to bother you with this one - I know it got discussed some time
ago already.
I had to migrate to a new machine (nt4 server sp6)
and now I cannot put the ras component onto a form.

It comes up with: access violation at address in module
ntdll.dll read of address 00018

I remember there was some simple remedy but I don't know any more
 what it was.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?

 thanks

RE: [DUG]: Pricing ...

2001-05-09 Thread Siegfried Kirchmair

Hi Borland,

I see you are working hard towards driving the last customer towards
the competition.
Prices to me seem to get astronomical. The so called new delphi features in the past
were often just "3rd party trial version components" which were as in case of mapi
absolute useless crap and a wast of library space.
We do not need to pay for that I guess.

I don't know if these new xml etc. components are ok for commercial
use or if they are just another marketing issue.

Anyway I will not fork out 5.5k for an UPGRADE. There is a limit to
what you can spend each ear on development tools as a single
developer.
Of course we all should buy (try) kylix as well which takes the
borland bill 10k per version???

Do you really think the majority of clients can afford that? Losing
30% of clients will force you to raise the price even further I guess
and finally all of us will have to go somewhere else

have fun

the price, the fewer the developers, and thus the higher the price must go!
A very nasty circle. And one that I worry many will soon have to get off.

I can see no realistic way for Borland to get out this circle with regard to
Delphi. I do hope however that if they decide to abandon the windows
development tool market that they will hand Delphi over to the open source
community.

[DUG]: olevariant as dll parameter

2001-04-10 Thread Siegfried Kirchmair

Hi,

Calling a dll (made in Visual C++ - ole) which takes an array (save
array??) of variants as parameter to be filled with values does not work
for me. Although the dll recongnises the myVarVariant :=
VarArrayCreate([0,15], varvariant) and changes the types and values (so I
am told) I cannot read the values or types. Is there a compatibility
problem with MS-visual C compiled dll's?

The dll function works fine using excel (vb for excel). I can also
access the other functions (which do not have an olevariant as a
parameter) in delphi.

Have you come across this and made it work? Any hints?

thanks

[DUG]: setting of parallel port pins in nt

Hi,

Has anybody written some code for nt which can set a couple of pins
on the parallel port?

It is no problem with 95/98 but nt doesn't let you write stuff to the
appropriate address.

Any help would be appreciated.

I got the message via tech alert that the new bde (5.10) has a bug

Has anybody found this dll for download or could somebody e-mail this dll to

[DUG]: dbgrid and mouse wheel events

1999-03-13 Thread Siegfried Kirchmair

Hi,

I noticed that the dbgrid (delphi4, win98) misbehaves badly i.e. it
shows multiple indicators and the underlying dataset doesn't "scroll"
properly.
Seems to be full of bugs to me.
Any suggestions how to fix it or at least switch it off.

It also does not publish an event or "hand down" the event to TForm
as indicated in the online help.

I am just trying out some ways of avoiding bde for SQL-server
database access.
I have installed and tried out odbc98 and while it seemed phantastic
at the first look, I found its functionality very limited. Using the
table/query there are no navigational methodes i.e. first,next,.. or
edit,insert or post.

Do you use the components? How can you programmatically scroll,
alter, add records without having the above methods available?

[DUG]: FILE of ....

1999-02-25 Thread Siegfried Kirchmair

Hi,

I noticed that in d4 you can't compile a typed file declaration any
more - gone or the syntax has changed???
The help file still shows the "old" syntax.

example:

type
TFileRec = record
 time : string;
 .
end;

var
myFile : file of TFilerec; -> doesn't compile.

Has anyone a clue if this doesn't work at all any more or if there is
a better way of doing it now???

[DUG]: network

1999-02-08 Thread Siegfried Kirchmair

Hi,

How can I check if another machine is up except by using file system
e.g. fileexists('\\other_machine\drive\...).
The problem being that by checking on a file on the network the
program seems to wait for the timeout if the other_machine is down
and my program seems to hang.
I need to check this before the bde tries to access a paradox table
on the other machine as otherwise the bde hangs up.
Is there a kind of ping function?
