[Bug 428396] Re: gnometris doesn't display the game area

2010-06-16 Thread Jeff Epstein
I get these messages as well, however the game does not start at all. I
am using the Nouveau drivers on an Nvidia card. The game works fine with
the proprietary drivers.

(quadrapassel:7891): ClutterGLX-CRITICAL **: Unable to make the stage
window 0x8200028 the current GLX drawable

(quadrapassel:7891): ClutterGLX-CRITICAL **: Unable to make the stage

This might be the same as bug 529479?

[Bug 529479] Re: Quadrapassel - ClutterGLX-CRITICAL error

My video is:

I'm using the Nouveau drivers. The game works fine with the proprietary
Nvidia drivers, but like all Clutter (e.g. Mutter) programs seems to
crash with the Nouveau drivers. This is under Lucid, by the way.

[Bug 241206] Re: On Hardy screen saver never displays

2010-06-16 Thread Robert Lange
I had noticed this bug on an upgraded 8.10 -> 9.04 -> 9.10 but had
assumed it was an upgrade bug, and ignored it. Now I have the same bug
a clean install of 10.04. This absolutely should be a serious issue, as
it could cause screen damage (imagine I go away for the week forgetting
to turn off my monitor) and is a security issue (imagine forgetting to
manually lock the screen).

I definitely have found that the most reliable way to initiate this bug
is to deactivate the screensaver via the preferences dialog for some
length of time (e.g., to watch a show on hulu.com), and then reactivate
it.

I have found a work-around that's better than logging out or restarting.
I have a Lock Screen applet on my panel, and right-clicking it and
choosing "Activate Screensaver", after reactivating the screensaver via
the preferences, will cause the screensaver to work correctly.

Note, this bug may also be related to bug #363635.

Given that this bug involves the screen fading to black, as though the
screensaver were activated, before popping right back to the desktop, it
seems that something is canceling the screensaver at the last moment.
Does anyone know how to log the events that deactivate a screensaver?

[Bug 363635] Re: Screensaver does not work in 9.04

2010-06-16 Thread Robert Lange
Sebastian: I know this is not the kind of bug you like, since it is
difficult to describe and hard to reproduce reliably, but it is a real
bug. Perhaps the wording of the title could be better, and we need more
people to flesh out what is happening. As it stands now, I have
absolutely no faith that gnome-screensaver will reliably lock my
computer or protect my screen, so I always manually lock my workstation
and always shut off my monitor when I am not at it. It's a shame I have
to do this.

johnsdagg: Your description in comment #7 was what drew me to this bug
report. In my case, I disable gnome-screensaver via the preferences
dialog, so I can watch hulu.com uninterrupted. When I am done watching,
I re-enable it via the preferences dialog. However, all that happens
once the timeout hits is the screen fades as though the screensaver were
activating, then it blinks back to the desktop. The screensaver will
not properly activate until I right-click on the Lock Screen applet
(that I added to my panel) and choose activate screensaver. (A weird
thing that happens then is the screensaver activates, but once I move my
mouse, it deactivates, but instantly reactivates, no matter how long I
waited after it first came on. It does this exactly once per manual
activation.) Once I have manually re-activated it, the screensaver
seems to behave normally, until the next time I deactivate it. Also, a
reboot or logout solves the problem, but that is of course not an
acceptable solution.

For me, the problem is pretty repeatable: once I deactivate the
screensaver through the preferences dialog, then re-activate it through
the preferences dialog, I must manually use the Lock Screen button
(either click to lock, or right-click and choose the "Activate
screensaver" option to activate the screensaver, but not lock). It does
not seem to matter whether I use the blank screensaver or any particular
screensaver.

I first noticed this bug after upgrading from 8.10 to 9.04 on an x86
machine. I thought it was an upgrade-related bug, so I ignored it. Now
I have just done a clean stock install of 10.04 on an amd64 machine, and
I have observed the same problem.

Is there anyway to log screensaver events, such as activations and
deactivations. Clearly the screensaver is activating, b/c the screen
fades to black, but something is immediately signaling it to halt the
screensaver instantly as it activates. I would like to find out what
event is doing this, so we can fix this bug.

bug as a bug in evolution.

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the

4. Actual:
The messages were deleted from the Inbox (OK)
The messages did not appear in the Trash folder (NOT OK).

My evolution -> edit -> preferences -> mail preferences -> for deleted mail,
are:
Empty trash folders on exit is NOT enabled.
Confirm when expunging a folder IS enabled.

I don't look in the trash folder often, so I first noticed this problem
yesterday (16th June 2010), when I tried to recover an e-mail that I
accidentally deleted.

There was only one message in the trash folder. I had recently used the
"move" function to transfer it from the deleted folder to a sub-folder.
I think that there were other deleted messages in the trash folder at
that time, as it is several weeks since I performed the "empty trash"
function.

However, I have subsequently deleted 8 or 10 messages & none of them are
in the trash folder.

I think that I read a quite old bug (But I can't find it again) that had
some similarity to my experience, but I wasn't sure, so I have submitted
this.

I did run some bug report program, but I don't know where that went, as
it has taken me many ubuntu pages to find where to submit a bug.

There are similarities in behavior with that bug but it doesn't seem to

and Background are preserved.

As to session storing. I don't know. I did a clean install of Lucid
(because every time I use upgrade from one distro to another it borks my

storing? How do I check that?

[Bug 574693] Re: nautilus ftp file transfer hangs in lucid

2010-06-16 Thread Ryan Jung
Confirmed. This problem also occurs when transferring the contents of a
single directory with multiple files of any size. I have also
experienced it when moving a single file (I had tried tar.gz-ing the
directory that was having problems). At this point, I would say that
this probably has no relationship to the type, quantity, or size of the
files being transferred because I have reproduced the problems under
more or less every combination I can think of. While it does appear to
be somewhat random, it also appears to happen more often than not when
transferring data.

I can also confirm that this happens when providing a specific IP
address over a local network as well as when using DNS. My FTP server,
for what it's worth, is using the default port, 21.

Re: [Bug 296867] Re: empathy needs to support OTR encryption

2010-06-16 Thread Ronald Pottol
Heck, I cannot even figure out how to have Empathy support multiple
statuses! One status, for all accounts, or perhaps that is just from
the way Ubuntu integrated it. Some accounts I want to be invisible, I
don't want to have a flippant status for work, etc.

sudo aptitude install libpam-gnome-keyring=2.92.92.is.2.30.0-0ubuntu3
sudo aptitude install gnome-keyring=2.92.92.is.2.30.0-0ubuntu3

[Bug 595297] [NEW] gnome-appearance-properties only displays 2 themes in a row

2010-06-16 Thread Ubeer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

If you open up gnome-appearance-properties to change your desktop theme
you'll see that there are 2 items displayed per row while there is
almost space enough to add a 3rd item. This looks a little odd and makes
it harder to select a theme because you have to scroll more to see all
the available themes.

If the default/minimum size of the window is enlarged by a bit, then
this problem would be solved. Only problem is that different themes have
different values for the width of the border and that influences the
size of the canvas with the themes.

With the default Ubuntu theme (has wide borders) the window should be 14
pixels wider. With something like Elementary theme it would only take 3
because the border size is zero or one.

This problem could be seen as a paper cut because almost every user will
encounter this. To fix this could give a better impression/user
experience and my guess is that it shouldn't be that hard to
fix/modify/test.

Attached is an image with a comparison of both default theme and
elementary theme.

As a side note: this 'problem' exists for a long time, I think already
in Dapper. That's about when I started using Linux/Ubuntu. Now using
Maverick.

I checked anantshri's solution and it solved the issue for me (thanks anantshri

I used the following console commands for package downgrade:

sudo aptitude install libpam-gnome-keyring=2.92.92.is.2.30.0-0ubuntu3
sudo aptitude install gnome-keyring=2.92.92.is.2.30.0-0ubuntu3

My fingerprint sensor is also working (it also did with
2.92.92.is.2.30.1-0ubuntu2 before, but i had to deactivate it, because
the "missing panel" issue only occured when I included "auth sufficient
pam_fprint.so" in "/etc/pam.d/common-auth").

[Bug 595281] [NEW] Ubuntu/Nautilus should create missing .Trash-$USER

2010-06-16 Thread sebastian-s
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I have a second partition mounted at /data.
If I move a file to the trash on this partition Nautilus warns me that the file
can't be move to the trash and will be deleted instead.

To fix it I only had to create /data/.Trash-$USER and sudo chown me:me
/data/.Trash-$USER and Nautilus started using the trash on this
partition immediately.

I think that Ubuntu/Nautilus should create the .Trash-$USER if
required/during setup. In fact it does with USB sticks, SD cards, etc.
which is not to anyones liking (see bug 12893 )

(Maybe there is the need to request sudo permission from the user
depending on the mount point/owner of the partition)

Ahah, Berend I didn't see your comment about lid state before. What
happens if you change the "Lid Closed" action in g-p-m to Nothing (or
Blank Screen or whatever it says)?

Also, please post the results of "upower -d | grep lid" (on Lucid, or
"devkit-power -d | grep lid" on Karmic) for the following conditions:

1) Immediately after boot.
2) If possible, between plugging in AC (after notification) and the suspend.
3) After resume.

If possible, please reproduce this information on Lucid or even
Maverick, just to make sure we're using the latest available versions.

[Bug 549723] Re: empathy doesn't autoconnect at startup

2010-06-16 Thread Chris Skillen
I am also using Ubuntu 10.04 with integrated Empathy (2.30.1) and I am having a
similar problem. I have noticed that if I start my computer with a wired
network connection at start-up then Empathy will connect to all my accounts
automatically (without it being part of the start-up applications). I am
guessing that the wired connection becomes established before Empathy has
finished loading allowing it to connect. However if I start-up with a wireless
connection (which I normally do) then the connection takes longer to establish
and Empathy does not connect when the internet becomes available meaning that
it does not to connect on start-up. For some reason, adding it to the start-up
applications with the -h tag is an effective workaround for start-ups with
wireless connections.

I hope this helps! It would be good in my opinion if Empathy was able to
periodically check for an available internet connection and automatically
connect. This way it would work as many people are expecting it to.

[Bug 387536] Re: Zenity should ignore markup with a flag

2010-06-16 Thread Jonathan Reed
Any text with an ampersand will trigger the bug.

$ zenity --info --text 'This has an & in it'

The following is printed to stderr:
(zenity:21569): Gtk-WARNING **: Failed to set text from markup due to error
parsing markup: Error on line 1: Character ' ' is not valid at the start of an
entity name; the & character begins an entity; if this ampersand isn't supposed
to be an entity, escape it as &

And zenity displays its default "All updates are complete" dialog
instead of the text.

Ideally, it should be told to ignore Pango markup. Failing that, the
man page should explicitly inform users that they need to escape
anything that could be interpreted as Pango markup.

ubuntulooks has been depricated. It is no longer developed in Ubuntu or
as an upstream project. It has been superseded by gtk2-engines-murrine
since intrepid, and it has been removed from the archive in lucid. Due

[Bug 595197] [NEW] nautilus entry can not be removed from "Open With" (rclick) menu

2010-06-16 Thread cement_head
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Nautilus appears in the "Open With" menu (see attached screenshot) for
EVERY file. During some automated embedded applications. For example,
Referencer (which should open PDF's with either Evince or Adobe Reader)
tries to open a PDF with Nautilus. For some reason I think the MIME
types are all messed up. I thought removing the Nautilus entry from the
"Open With" menu would solve the problem.

The real problem is I cannot do this, and I have no Idea how to do this.
As a result the functionality of the desktop is severely comprimised.

stopped using the wide layout because of the issue, but in Maverick
Alpha 1 it is working as it should.
