Public bug reported: Binary package hint: brasero I have a mounted data CD and I asked Brasero to copy it to an image file. After the re-install completed, Brasero continued to refuse in the same way. This has not been a useful package for some time, and it should be cleaned up. Maybe there are just too many cooks in this pot. Brasero version: 2.30.2-0ubuntu1\ UBUNTU version 10.04 plus upgrades to date. [Bug 46890] Re: logging out of GNOME session should invalidate sudo tty tickets
I'm not sure this really qualifies as a security bug, because you explicitly allow some privilege escalation by setting a user as not requiring a password to login. And for an admin that is aware of this problem there are a couple of ways to keep the "no password" login but have a safe sudo: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SecurityTeam/FAQ#Sudo As sudo has already the capacity to wipe the timestamp with "sudo -k" I think this is more an issue of gnome-session calling this command on logout. I'm therefore adding the gnome-session package to this bug. ** Also affects: gnome-session (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- logging out of GNOME session should invalidate sudo tty tickets https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/46890 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-session in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 605602] [NEW] gcalctool: double paste when using middle mouse button.
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gcalctool Summary: when pasting into gcalctool by clicking the middle mouse button, the contents of two different clipboards are pasted. How to reproduce: 1. Login to a fresh session. 2. Start gcalctool. 3. Open your text editor, and write down two numbers, e.g. 123 and 456. 4. Highlight the first number (123), and copy it by pressing ctrl-c. (But don't paste it.) 5. Highlight the second number (456). 5. Paste into gcalctool by clicking the middle mouse button. Result: when pressing the button down, the number 456 is pasted. But when releasing the button, 123 is also pasted; for a grand total of 456123. So, it looks like the clipboard belonging to ctrl-c is additionally pasted when using the middle mouse button. [Bug 605290] Re: Unplug, replug AC on laptop, screen pulses, battery indicator not updated, power statistics and preferences screens unavailable
acpi-support is unrelated to processing such events. If the power management GUI becomes unavailable, but upower --dump still returns, sounds like this is likely to be a gnome-power-manager bug; reassigning there. ** Package changed: acpi-support (Ubuntu) => gnome-power-manager (Ubuntu) -- Unplug, replug AC on laptop, screen pulses, battery indicator not updated, power statistics and preferences screens unavailable https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/605290 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 605290] [NEW] Unplug, replug AC on laptop, screen pulses, battery indicator not updated, power statistics and preferences screens unavailable
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Binary package hint: acpi-support Steps to reproduce: Laptop (Dell Inspiron 2200 with an after-market AC adapter) 1) unplug AC power 2) replug AC power Resulting symptoms: Frequently (probably 70% of the time) 1) Pulsing, Flashing, beating, flickering display (looks like the brightness level is popping up and down rapidly) 2) The battery indicator still shows battery as discharging. 3) The battery indicator's Power Statistics (usually accessed by clicking battery status on popdown menu) and Preferences screen are unavailable. If you click on the battery status area you can see a faintly visible 3D outline of a transparent dialog box the size of the normal popdown menu item, but no item is visible). 4) results of upower --dump cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT0/state and cat /proc/acpi/ac_adapter/AC/state sometimes match what the battery indicator displays and sometimes not. This is what leads me to think it is some kind of acpi event or other power event not being properly processed on a deeper level than just the gnome-power-manager or the battery indicator malfunctioning. I'll try and provide more details of this at a later time. What's ls -l /etc/shadow look like? /etc/shadow should be 640, owner root, and group shadow. My PoC (http://twitter.com/jonoberheide/status/18009527979) changed the ownership of /etc/shadow and upon changing it back (I think I did chown root:root instead of root:shadow), I had the same issue of not being able to log in via the screensaver and the same "check pass; user unknown" error message (unix_chkpwd can't read the file if its not shadow group readable). [Bug 604635] Re: [Maverick] Have default settings be energy star 5.0 compliant
transmission has the option to inhibit suspend when downloading, but i think that preference is off by default. Totem creates an idle inhibitor when watching movies. [Bug 604635] Re: [Maverick] Have default settings be energy star 5.0 compliant
To add some more comments. Thinking about the 30 minute suspsend when idle more. Off the top of my head I can think of some use cases that can be impacted by this: * A long download via firefox or chromium * watching a movie or listening to music Though a solution seems to this already exist. I know that totem has the ability to tell gnome-power-manager that the it is busy so don't do anything automatically. This would also be something that firefox or chromium could have as well when they are downloading content. I was also told that Transimmision Bittorrent Client has the same logic to prevent gnome-power-manager from automatically like suspend when it is running. Not sure if they are reporting the system not being idle or something else. But I believe it's all done over dbus. -- [Maverick] Have default settings be energy star 5.0 compliant https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/604635 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 309366] Re: clock does not update
It affects me too. Since I upgraded from Ubuntu 9.10 to 10.04, my clock (at the top-right edge of my screen) is generally blocked. (it happens to work, but generally not). Therefore, if right-click on the clock, then go to Preferences->Clock Settings, the time at the right of "current time" is ok : it changes every second.
