[Bug 601709] Re: Laptop goes to sleep right after plugging/unplugging power cord

2010-10-20 Thread DaneM
Thanks for the continued interest in this bug. The computer that I'm
writing about is my wife's school laptop; as such, I can't reload a new
operating system on it during the semester (which ends in late
December). Do you think it would be sufficient/helpful for me to test
it using a live CD or USB drive? It took some tweaking to get Ubuntu to
load on this laptop (after Karmic), including some kernel/boot options
to make the video not lock up on boot (black screen). I'm pretty sure I
can get it to boot and run a test, but I'd first like to know if this
method of testing would be helpful. Thanks!

[Bug 664297] [NEW] file not found when opening file from sftp in nautilus

2010-10-20 Thread Nuris Kandar Musthafa
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

the condition happens when we open 2 connections with sftp in nautilus.
the sftp connection from ssh forwarding.
ex.
  ssh -L portlocal1:host1:portsource destination

in nautilus sftp://localhost:portlocal1
first, when we access file with gedit, it can be opened. But when We make new
forwarding ssh connection like below:

ssh -L portlocal2:host2:portsource destination

in nautilus sftp://localhost:portlocal2
second, try open file from first connection in nautilus with gedit.

got error:
Could not find the file sftp://localhost:portlocal2/h…ation/config/database.php.
It will be error because file is in first connection, but gedit use second
connection.

why does gedit use second connection to sftp, whereas we open the file
from first connection?

thanks.

[Bug 496716] Re: gnome screensaver only shows blank screen on karmic 9.10

2010-10-20 Thread Mikster
I'm now seeing this problem after having upgraded from 10.04 to 10.10.
Previously, gnome-screensaver worked normally. After the upgrade, the
screensaver will work correctly the first time or two after a reboot,
but, afterwards, instead of the chosen screensaver only a black screen
is shown. This is also true when the screensaver is activated via gnome-
screensaver-command --activate. The screensaver preferences screen
displays everything normally.

[Bug 664239] [NEW] [maverick] window and buttons very wide in dutch locale

2010-10-20 Thread thom
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gcalctool

Binary package hint: gcalctool 5.32.0
Distribution: Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat Desktop i386

The dutch translation for undo (Ongedaan maken) seems to make the
buttons very wide.

this sizes the calculator to approxiately 1300x340 (wxh) which makes it
a bit of a hassle to use on my 1024x768 screen (since there is no way to
resize it)

I managed to make a screenshot from my 1400x1050 laptop (otherwise I
couldnt get the whole window)

[Bug 649809] Re: Meerkat (10.10) does not apply theme properly

2010-10-20 Thread George
Albert, I don't think they will *decide* not to repair the bug. It's a
pretty obvious one. It still seems to affect a small number of users,
though, so it might not get the priority we would like. But these sort
of problems often get fixed by the next release.

If you're still doing (re)installs and you would prefer Gnome, I
recommend you go with 10.04. It's an LTS release and works great. I
don't see what you would be missing from 10.10. It brought me nothing
but trouble. I would go back to 10.04 if I had the patience for a clean
install.

[Bug 657357] Re: GTK Printing Dialog: Duplex printing on HP inkjets does not work

2010-10-20 Thread Till Kamppeter
For Natty the bug should really get fixed, in GTK. For Maverick we
should switch back to HPIJS (instead of hpcups) as default driver for
HP's non-PostScript printers. Here the duplex option is simpler and
works with all the applications which have all kinds of bugs in their
printing dialogs. Added hplip and system-config-printer task for a
Maverick SRU.

[Bug 628250] Re: Audio and video in video chat are not synchronized

2010-10-20 Thread ubuntu_16
I have this problem too. I am using the exact same Ubuntu install
(10.04) and empathy version (both up to date) on two separate machines.
Video and audio chat work perfectly except that audio is delayed by
about 2 seconds. I am testing this on a local network with a local XMPP
server - no connections are going over the internet. I would think delay
should be non-existent, but I'm not sure if there is some configuration
option somewhere which needs tweaking.

Same problem here. i7 920, 8800GTS640

I also had the problem with the beta/rc which seems to have begun after
the xorg 1.9 update.

And i also seem to suffer from the high system/kernel cpu slowdown
problem as described by #37 and in some forum posts, does anyone know if
there is a bug report for that one yet, couldn't find one.

I forgot to say Bug #652731 shows that this happens with XFCE too. So
the problem is related to both Gnome and XFCE, which means it can be
narrowed down to something that is common between those two desktop

combinations.

[Bug 649809] Re: Meerkat (10.10) does not apply theme properly

2010-10-20 Thread albert fishnets
I just installed KDE to see what happens when I boot into it. Everything
works fine in KDE except gnome applications. Firefox and Transmission
are still showing the same rendering issues, while Konqurer and all
native KDE aps show properly rendered fonts and themes. Also I cannot
load certain aps without them crashing. When I run Banshee for example
it just crashes after loading with the KDE theme and fonts. Only the
Gnome apps I had installed on my gnome desktop have issues and they will
only start with the theme and fonts rendered wrong. Installing KDE Full
or switching to Kubuntu seems like one possible option if they decide
not to repair what ever is causing this problem on our systems.

[Bug 664180] [NEW] main panel icons overlap or get truncated

2010-10-20 Thread Alexandros Papadopoulos
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Every time a new GNOME session starts (e.g. after a system restart), the
arrangement of icons in the main panel is

(a) Pseudo-random in order and
(b) Sometimes broken, with buttons duplicated, overlapping, truncated or not
displayed at all.

I cannot trace this behavior to anything in particular. With no system
changes, multiple GNOME sessions will yield multiple & different results
for icon placement, with varying degrees of success.

The following screenshots should illustrate the symptoms.

ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04

[Bug 663950] Re: Evolution mangles certain email addresses, resulting in undeliverable messages when replying

2010-10-20 Thread Felix Kuehling
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 258139 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/258139

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: evolution

Evolution mangles certain email addresses in message headers. When
replying to such addresses, the resulting emails are undeliverable.

When I look at the message source, the address looks correct:

- To: sw.dl.Linux BG
+ To: sw.dl.Linux BG

When I look at the message in any other view than "Message Source", I
  get this:

- To: sw.dl.LinuxB
+ To: sw.dl.LinuxB

The mangled email address also propagates to the CC-header when using
"Reply to all" on such a message. The resulting message is undeliverable
and doesn't reach the intended mailing list.

I see that "sw.dl.Linux BG" should probably be in quotes because of the
space. But the message got all the way to me in this form, so all the
MTAs on the way deal with this gracefully. My MUA (evolution) should be
able to deal with this too.

[Bug 664016] Re: no such file or directory when compressing zip, rar, 7z

2010-10-20 Thread Marcel Stimberg
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Please answer these questions:
1. Is this reproducible?
2. If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug? Be as
detailed as possible.
This will help us to find and resolve the problem.

Two specific things:
* Do the folder or the files in the folder have something unusual in their file
name (special characters, etc.)?
* Is the folder you are trying to compress on a normal hard disk or on a
network share or similar?

[Bug 401499] Re: System log viewer keeps displaying error message "/var/log/btmp" The file is not a regular file or not a text file

2010-10-20 Thread Sebastian Meyer
I can confirm this bug on Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS (Lucid Lynx), x86_64 GNU/Linux
2.6.32-25-generic, with gnome-utils version 2.30.0-0ubuntu1.
A workaround can be found at
https://answers.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-utils/+question/89994 ,
i.e. simply remove the entry /var/log/btmp from the list
/apps/gnome-system-log/logfiles of the log files which are opened up at startup
of the log viewer (e.g. using gconf-editor).
I think /var/log/btmp should generally not be part of this list, neither is
/var/log/wtmp .

PS: By the way, I don't really think this is a duplicate of bug #374320,
because it is not related to permissions of /var/log/btmp.

[Bug 664133] [NEW] Evolution calendar/tasks/memo quit after a few seconds

2010-10-20 Thread Pablo Borjas
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

After upgrading to Ubuntu 10.10, now every time I click on Calendar,
after a few seconds, it quits with a popup the reads " The Evolution
memo has quit unexpectedly. Your memos will not be available until
Evolution is restarted". I get the same message for Calendar, and Task
as well. This is an Exchange Account. I reinstalled Ubuntu 10.10 from
scratch, and it didn't help.
