Re: [Bug 1053670] Re: nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in g_type_check_instance_cast()
Daniel, It regretted to inform you email on the above subject is no use for the following reasons: I am newbie to ubuntu and linux. I use WinXP most of time. Since ubuntu 12.10 has been crashed and just now has been re-installed from scratch. *Reason*:Trying to install ubuntu 12.04(for the purpose of Ocropus Project for which python 2.7.3 required -works fine - whereas in ubuntu 12.10 failed to work) as a result entire OS winxp and ubuntu 12.10 crashed. In order to recovery/restore to original position - I re-installed ubuntu 12.10. Now I am able to boot the both OS viz winxp(*which is important for me*) as well as ubuntu 12.10. *how problem arised*: I had downloaded both versions of ubuntu 12.04(64bit) and also 12.04(without 64bit) burned CD/RW - but failed to install and crashed - due error at sector (where I dont know - displayed in light green color on the monitor) Again I tried using another burned CD/RW also failed. Now again as a final attempt I am re-downloading ubuntu 12.04(i386.iso) and waiting for completion. If this also fails, I am thinking install old version 10.10 and then upgrade to 12.04. It appears that iso of ubuntu 12.04 in the website are corrupted? Now I am perplexed and afraid to use ubuntu of future version - lest I loose winXp and data etc. unless there is ubuntu recovery CD for restoring lost/damaged grub. *Suggested solution*: I wish for benefit of newbie/users like me, the following suggestions are made below for consideration. Create one General Recovery CD for all ubuntu versions - to restore/recover the lost grub as well as all OS if any. due to unforeseen circumstances. OR if Recovery Mode/option added to the Grub in the installed ubuntu - it should be able to restore the damaged/lost grub to original position automatically. For this purpose it should be introduced in all existing ubuntu and future one. This option will encouraged the newbies/users like me to use ubuntu without any fear/frustration and thus preven runaway from ubuntu. The position may kindly be brought to the kind notice of appropriate authority /team - for consideration and implementation. With warmest regards, -sriranga(79yrs) On Mon, Sep 24, 2012 at 9:34 AM, Daniel van Vugt < daniel.van.v...@canonical.com> wrote: > ** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) >Importance: Medium => High > > -- > You received this bug notification because you are subscribed to a > duplicate bug report (1053972). > https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1053670 > > Title: > nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in g_type_check_instance_cast() > > Status in “glib2.0” package in Ubuntu: > Confirmed > Status in “libdbusmenu” package in Ubuntu: > Confirmed > Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu: > Confirmed > > Bug description: > This problem happens randomly on ubuntu 12.10, as of the updates to > quantal and quantal-proposed on September 20. [Bug 1055292] [NEW] removing gdm results in dm chooser question even when only 1 dm is left
Public bug reported: When removing gdm package on quantal, the dm chooser question is always presented, even when there is only one dm remaining on the system. I do note this does not appear to happen on precise which uses the commands as per the #1 test case. fwiw lightdm uses #2 also. 1. running (this is what is currently in the prerm script): db_unregister shared/default-x-display-manager || true db_get shared/default-x-display-manager returns: debconf (developer): <-- UNREGISTER shared/default-x-display-manager debconf (developer): --> 0 db_get shared/default-x-display-manager debconf (developer): <-- GET shared/default-x-display-manager debconf (developer): --> 0 lightdm 2. running (this produces the correct output): db_unregister shared/default-x-display-manager db_get shared/default-x-display-manager returns: debconf (developer): <-- starting debconf (developer): <-- UNREGISTER shared/default-x-display-manager debconf (developer): --> 0 ** Affects: gdm (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1055292 Title: removing gdm results in dm chooser question even when only 1 dm is left To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm/+bug/1055292/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1055171] [NEW] Nautilus hangs when TIFF file properties are requested
Public bug reported: Ubuntu 12.04.01 LTS - all updates current Nautilus 3.4.2 All Nautilus windows hang when the properties of a TIFF file are requested. One must "force quit" to close all windows and relaunch Natulis again. This happens for files in all folders in the Home directory EXCEPT the Desktop folder. On the desktop, the TIFF file properties are displayed properly. What I did: Open Nautilus and navigate to the Pictures folder. Right mouse click on a TIFF file and select Properties. I expected the Properties dialog box to be displayed and to move through the tabs to view properties information. Instead, the properties dialog opens and all Nautilus dialog boxes freeze until a force quit is issued. [Bug 1035221] Re: xdg-open/gnome-open opens blank firefox
After a lot of digging into the various involved components including some "stracing" I found out why it didn't work and how to fix this: It seems the default applications are found via .desktop files in /home//.local/share/applications. I had some older entries in there, probably from Ubuntu editions from a few years back (I am not a fan of re-installing and usually update from one to the next version). There were several firefox entries in there, when I removed all of them, I could not select firefox any more as default application in the system settings, however when I copied over the firefox.desktop entry from /usr/share/applications/ and re-selected firefox as the default application, I can now open http-links from all the applications again. Not sure who or what is to blame here, somehow my deleted-files folder does not show the removed .desktop files any more, so I cannot post them to allow for closer analysis, maybe the original reporter with the same problem can post the files. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to libgnome in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1035221 Title: xdg-open/gnome-open opens blank firefox To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libgnome/+bug/1035221/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 41994] Re: closed Laptop Lid to reliably keep Backlight off
Ah, sorry, done a little more testing. It stays off indefinitely (without input) if the lid is open. But, if I run it after closing the lid, it still wakes randomly. This means that it must be receiving some imaginary input when the lid is closed to wake it. My biggest problem is that some imaginary input wakes the laptop. Ignoring all input while the lid is closed would solve the problem. However, without a mouse connected I can't provide any input with the lid closed anyway, so this doesn't bother me as much as not waking on imaginary inputs. I remember trying to debug this before, and the input is non-existent. The screen wakes because the X server is no longer idle, but using xev reports no input being received. It is interesting that this only happens when the lid is closed. Perhaps this bug should be split into two parts. Firstly, a bug, that imaginary input is received randomly when the lid is closed. Secondly, a wishlist, that the screen should not wake on input while the lid is closed. Fixing either of these would satisfy me. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/41994 Title: closed Laptop Lid to reliably keep Backlight off To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/dell/+bug/41994/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 945987] Re: No Settings are available in "Preferred format", only preset defaults are used
I upgraded to 2.96-0ubuntu4.2 on precise but still suffer with the problem where i cannot modify (or even view) the mp3 settings. [Bug 1055105] [NEW] Status is set to offline
Public bug reported: Hello, I've got Ubuntu 12.10 with Empathy 3.5.92. Every time I start Empathy my jabber accounts report "needs authorization" (vk.com) or "status is set to offline" (gmail.com). And this is random: sometimes one of them can connect from the first try. But the google account usually reports the error. After some time they automatically reconnect and work well. But that may take several minutes to get them working. Pressing the "reconnect" button doesn't help. I've set up the accounts via the standard Ubuntu Online Accounts manager. There is no "debug" menu item so I don't know how do I provide any logs or see what's the problem. BTW, my Sametime account requires some magic all the time: looks like it doesn't store the password. Currently, I have it enabled, but don't see any groups or contacts in Empathy. It complained at first about authorization but then just silently dropped trying the account. And there is no button to force reconnect. ** Affects: empathy (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to empathy in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1055105 Title: Status is set to offline To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/empathy/+bug/1055105/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
