[Bug 1611162] Re: 16.04.1 LTS: using "screen lock" requires reboot to use computer
UPDATE II: more details for the previous UPDATE. It seems that when I activate screen lock VIA THE KEYBOARD (Ctrl+Alt+L), I DO NOT get the "go to sleep and reboot" phenomenon to occur. When I use THE MOUSE to click on the "services" icon (upper-right of screen, next to the "Date/Time" display), scroll down to the "Lock Ctrl+Alt+L" line and click on it, the screen lock activates THEN within 10 seconds the display DIMS, then BLANKS, my display shows "Entering power save mode - no signal detected", then the "go to sleep and reboot" phenomenon occurs. NOTE: when I moved the mouse Just As The Screen Started To Dim, the display returned to normal brightness and the phenomenon did not occur. AGAIN: I have DISABLED the "Screen Off after xx minutes" and "Require password when waking from suspend" function/option in "System Settings, Brightness & Lock". Right now, my "workaround" for using Screen Lock is to USE THE KEYBOARD, not the mouse, to enable the function. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-screensaver in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1611162 Title: 16.04.1 LTS: using "screen lock" requires reboot to use computer To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-screensaver/+bug/1611162/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1612376] [NEW] Deleting files with "Permanently Delete" option makes Nautilus status indicator show huge negative number
Public bug reported: I was using the "Permanently Delete" option in Nautilus to delete a folder which was about 1.7GB in size and the most strange thing happened during the deletion: Negative_Amount_Of_Files_Deleted_Per_Second_Nautilus.png The number kept changing from a huge negative number, to a positive number half the size, but still unrealistic in terms of size and the amount of files actually in the folder which was in the 100,000s, not the 100,000,000s or similar as it often showed. [Bug 1612343] Re: Unable to delete large folders in Trash
** Description changed: I have found that since the indicator of file operations was replaced with the notification coming from the right of the top bar rather than a popup window, that I am unable to delete large folders from Trash. Placing them in Trash sometimes means that other items (even really small ones) can't be deleted until the large folders have been moved from Trash to another location, though on other occasions all, or at least half, of the other files will be seemingly successfully deleted, though not the large folder(s). For instance I have a folder with many sub-folders, which each have many sub-sub-folders etc and lots of files... The folder's file size is about 1.7GB. I tried creating a tar of the file which was 1.8GB, I moved that into Trash and it was deleted within about a second with no trouble at all so it seems only to be folders. I looked at the properties for a large folder I placed in Trash by itself, and even though I had clicked the Empty Trash button many times now, it was staying at the same size. I find that the indicator which is meant to be indicating how it's doing to me is always just stuck at "Preparing", even when it actually deletes stuff it only ever really shows that so is not very useful. I am running Ubuntu GNOME 16.04 with GNOME 3.20, but I believe this was also present in 3.18, though not to such a bad degree (pressing the Empty Trash button many times in some cases eventually worked on 3.18, but on 3.20 I can't seem to do anything to delete the folder without - first splitting it up). I have only tested this in Nautilus, I have not - yet tested if it works better in a different file manager, I will - comment when I have tested it with a different file manager. + first splitting it up). + + One thing to note though is that if I am to use the right-click option + to permanently delete files and folders (which can be enabled in the + Preferences) then it deletes them just fine apart from showing a huge + and negative amount of files per seconds, but that is for another bug + report. + + I have only tested this in Nautilus, I have not yet tested if it works + better in a different file manager, I will comment when I have tested it + with a different file manager. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1612343 Title: Unable to delete large folders in Trash To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-gnome/+bug/1612343/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1612295] [NEW] Nautilus should deal with setting Wallpaper with duplicate names more cleanly
Public bug reported: Currently in Nautilus if one right-clicks on an image file and clicks "Set As Wallpaper" it will set that image as the current wallpaper after moving it to the Wallpapers folder in ~/Pictures. This is all very well, however if I then set another image as my wallpaper, and then come back and want to set the one I previously set as my wallpaper, if I right- click on it and choose the option to set it it will tell me that an image with the same name already exists in the Wallpapers folder and it asks me if I want to replace it. Now this is something I really would not expect of it, I would expect Nautilus to deal with such a situation more cleanly. So my suggestion would be, once one selects an image to be the wallpaper it is moved to the Wallpapers folder but also renamed so that the issue described above does not occur. Another thing which may be good would be for it to check if there is currently a file in the Wallpapers folder which in terms of contents is identical to the one you are trying to set, then it could just set the one currently in the Wallpapers folder as the wallpaper. As the wallpaper files will now probably have strange names (well, each one could be called something like "wallpaper-1", and the number would increment each time), it may also be a good thing to not have the Wallpapers folder in ~/Pictures where it currently is and instead have it somewhere more internal and hidden away to avoid causing confusion, and anyway, if all this is implemented then there will be no need for it to be so visible. But this bit is just a suggestion, the main point of this report is to have a more clean way of dealing with duplicate files, or at least settings ones that have the same name as a previously set file located in Wallpapers. ** Affects: nautilus Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown ** Affects: ubuntu-gnome Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Description changed: Currently in Nautilus if one right-clicks on an image file and clicks "Set As Wallpaper" it will set that image as the current wallpaper after - moving it to the Wallpaper folder in ~/Pictures. [Bug 1612296] [NEW] "Add" button is still greyed out after right-clicking and "Select All" when adding files to an archive
Public bug reported: I encountered this bug while trying to add all files in a folder to an archive. I expect that after selecting "Select All", then the "Add" button would be usable, but it did not. Here's the step to reproduce this bug: - On the menu bar, click "Edit". Select "Add Files...". The "Add" button is greyed out. - Navigate to the folder containing the files. - Right-click and select "Select All". The "Add" button remains unchanged. To enable the "Add" button, I have de-select a random checkbox. I'm using file-roller version 3.16.5-0ubuntu1.1 on Xubuntu 16.04.1 LTS. ** Affects: file-roller (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to file-roller in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1612296 Title: "Add" button is still greyed out after right-clicking and "Select All" when adding files to an archive To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/file-roller/+bug/1612296/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1612229] [NEW] "Software" fails to install deb packages downloaded from the internet
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Steps: 1. Download a deb archive from a website e.g. google earth 2. Go to Downloads folder and double click the package 3. The "Software" window appears. 4. Click on the install button. The progress bar gets a litte way across and then disappears. 5. The package is not installed. 6. There is no message displayed about this. The only way I can install these packages is to run dpkg -i in a terminal. They all install that way without problems. Xubuntu 16.04.1 LTS All deb packages downloaded direct from websites such as Google Earth, Opera etc. The software should have installed but didn't. ** Affects: gnome-software (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: bot-comment -- "Software" fails to install deb packages downloaded from the internet https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1612229 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-software in Ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
