[Bug 1731911] Re: Xwayland crashed with SIGABRT in OsAbort() from AbortServer() from FatalError() from xwl_read_events() from ospoll_wait()
Just tidying up this bug... Although this is the top Xwayland crash, I'm now thinking we need to lower its priority. The reason is that this crash is only a side-effect of the gnome-shell process going away and not really a bug in Xwayland. One could argue that Xwayland still shouldn't crash in that case, and should survive (or exit) more cleanly. But still, not really a bug in Xwayland itself. We need to focus on fixing the gnome-shell crashes more than this one, and then this one will happen much less. ** Package changed: mutter (Fedora) => ubuntu ** Changed in: ubuntu Status: Fix Committed => New ** Changed in: ubuntu Remote watch: Red Hat Bugzilla #1500325 => None ** No longer affects: ubuntu ** No longer affects: mutter (Ubuntu) ** Bug watch removed: Red Hat Bugzilla #1500325 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1500325 ** Changed in: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Importance: High => Medium ** Description changed: https://errors.ubuntu.com/problem/c27f5c4fef272640ec1027318712f0434c7c8857 --- - no idea how to reproduce + Xwayland crashes when gnome-shell goes away. [Bug 1731911] Re: Xwayland crashed with SIGABRT in OsAbort() from AbortServer() from FatalError() from xwl_read_events() from ospoll_wait()
I think I'm experiencing the same problem. I installed Ubuntu 18.04 beta last Tuesday. When I power on my computer, the screen blinks 50-53 times over the span of 2-1/2 minutes (this is perfectly reproducible) and then for the rest of the session, everything works flawlessly. After LinuxFest Northwest, I was told to do an apt dist-upgrade and that did not clear the problem. I have two video cards: VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Xeon E3-1200 v2/3rd Gen Core processor Graphics Controller (rev 09) VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GF108 [GeForce GT 430] (rev a1) I'm not sure what other information would be helpful. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to mutter in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1731911 Title: Xwayland crashed with SIGABRT in OsAbort() from AbortServer() from FatalError() from xwl_read_events() from ospoll_wait() To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/+bug/1731911/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1768176] [NEW] Unable to suspend computer
Public bug reported: Ubuntu 18.04 fails to suspend if a window is open - it merely goes to the lock screen with a message that 1 process could not be stopped. [Side note - this behaviour disregards that I have the lock screen disabled in Privacy settings.] I closed Chrome and a terminal window to reveal the second behaviour: When suspend is selected (through power icon) the computer power momentarily stops (under a second) then the computer returns to the lock screen after a pause. Suspend worked very consistently on this hardware on 16.04 LTS in all situations. No changes have been made to the hardware since (long before) upgrade to 18.04. @seb128, that URL is for git clone, the HTML page for the repo is at [1]. Also, to compile nautilus with the patch, there needs another small patch after applying the Arch patch, to remove a naming conflict introduced in an Ubuntu patch in 18.04. I attached my patch. This is the way Unix discretionary access controls work. So long as the files are in Eve's home directory, and she retains ownership of her home directory, she will be able to rename the ~/.config/ directory and continue on as she wishes. Furthermore, the screen locking is handled by a process that runs as her user account in her user session. She could simply attach a debugger to it and lock it solid. Or she could write a little program to keep the X11 session 'active' and thus keep the screen from locking. Or she could click on a menu entry every time she walks away from the computer to keep the screen from locking. Or she could write her own screen locking program that would act as she wishes. You could try using the shadow 'lock account' tools; note that this is trivial to bypass if she can sit at the computer during bootup, unless you also take steps to lock the hard drive, lock the bios, and lock the grub configuration. But it cannot help you enforce screen locking when you wish. Not much short of forcibly killing her processes or rebooting the machine will help. [Bug 1768104] [NEW] systemd sometimes misdetects Xen VMs (fixed up-stream)
Public bug reported: It appears that Xen-based VMs sometimes report themselves as Microsoft Hyper-V via CPUID — apparently this is for compatibility with Windows guests. systemd 237 (as found in Bionic) gives preference to this CPUID information when detecting Xen, and thus it erroneously assumes that the guest is running under Hyper-V. This causes Xen-related services (and anything else that relies on systemd's VM-detection functionality) to fail. I *believe* this is a regression from systemd 229 as used in Xenial — we have at least a few Xen-based VMs that report as Hyper-V via CPUID and don't have this issue on that version — but i haven't confirmed that for certain. Anyway, i've submitted a ticket with more details to the up-stream project, and that has now been resolved through a fairly simple change which applies cleanly to the Bionic systemd sources: https://github.com/systemd/systemd/issues/8844 Would it be possible to pull this down? As mentioned, Xen-based Ubuntu VMs can seriously misbehave without it. Thanks! [Bug 1768078] [NEW] gnome-control-center network panel missing DNS search
Public bug reported: The Unity network panel offered a means to set DNS search data on fixed IP connections maintained via NetworkManager in /etc/NetworkManager /system-coonections/ dns-search variable. This feature is absent in 18.04 Gnome's gnome-control-center network panel. Lack of the feature means the dns-search variable is unset which also causes /etc/resolv.conf to leave the search to be unset. This is unacceptable in a assigned IP address Enterprise environment. [Bug 1756322] Re: 'netplan apply' fails when trying to activate another interface on another QETH device ...
** Description changed: + [Impact] + Server users on s390x configuring qeth devices. + + [Test case] + 1) Reconfigure an interface for a QETH device + 2) Verify that 'netplan apply' completes successfully, without error. + + [Regression potential] + This change has minimal potential for regression, and it only skip qeth-based devices from "replugging", which "disconnects" them by unbinding and rebinding the driver. Potential issues would be limited to failure to rename interfaces without a reboot, for configurations that depend on this (but it already would not have worked due to netplan apply failing to rebind the device). + + --- + When trying to add another interface for a QETH device on a s390x system netplan apply fails: sudo netplan apply Cannot replug encc003: [Errno 19] No such device Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/sbin/netplan", line 23, in netplan.main() File "/usr/share/netplan/netplan/cli/core.py", line 50, in main self.run_command() File "/usr/share/netplan/netplan/cli/utils.py", line 110, in run_command self.func() File "/usr/share/netplan/netplan/cli/commands/apply.py", line 40, in run self.run_command() File "/usr/share/netplan/netplan/cli/utils.py", line 110, in run_command self.func() File "/usr/share/netplan/netplan/cli/commands/apply.py", line 87, in command_apply stdout=fd, stderr=fd) File "/usr/lib/python3.6/subprocess.py", line 291, in check_call raise CalledProcessError(retcode, cmd) subprocess.CalledProcessError: Command '['udevadm', 'test-builtin', 'net_setup_link', '/sys/class/net/encc003']' returned non-zero exit status 4.
