[Bug 1728045] Re: Please restore battery time remaining to top bar!
Resurrecting this bug report to mention that I also miss the time remaining but also provide a resolve. It was extremely useful to know how much time I had before I had to seek a charger for my laptop and plan accordingly. Sure I can still check this, but having to trackpad my cursor over and get the time is just an annoying inconvenience. However to quench the need for the few, there is a Gnome shell extension compatible with 3.28.2 that'll let you add back in the time remaining by editing the extentsion's setting to show it. It'll give you the practical remaining or percentage, but not both. However you can enable the native percentage assuming you can ignore the numbers getting too friendly with the percentage. https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/817/battery-status/ -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1728045 Title: Please restore battery time remaining to top bar! [Bug 1792807] Re: Login screen freeze
This is starting to sound like a kernel problem. Are you able to log in to a VT? Instead of logging in normally try pressing Ctrl+Alt+F4 and then log into the text console. If that worked then run: dmesg > dmesg.txt and attach the resulting dmesg.txt to this bug. ** Changed in: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1792807 Title: Login screen freeze To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1792807/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1792544] Re: demotion of pcre3 in favor of pcre2
I've seen the wget debian change, but just switching builddeps from pcre3-dev to pcre2-dev and rebuilding isn't enough. The package ends up not finding pcre and doesn't enable it: checking for PCRE... no checking pcre.h usability... no checking pcre.h presence... no checking for pcre.h... no ... Libs: -luuid -lidn2 -lnettle -lgnutls -lz -lpsl So while the package builds, it's not using pcre. I tried to switch apache, and while I could make it find pcre2-config and use it, pcre2 has different libraries than pcre3: pcre3-config --libs: -lpcre pcre2-config --libs: no such parameter In pcre2, we have --libs8, --libs-posix, --libs32 and --libs16, but no --libs. Is this a bug in pcre2-config? [Bug 1793007] [NEW] gnome-disk-image-mounter creates loopback device but it is not mounted automatically
Public bug reported: First I thought nothing at all happened, but it turns out the loopback device is created, only this is not visible as Nautilus hides these by default. When I used nemo though or in Nautilus on 'other places' they are shown and are mounted if clicked on manually. syslog shows that udisksd reports the creation of the corresponding loop device. But this just happens silently and nothing is automounted. If the iso image is clicked again, it just creates anothe loopback device to the same image. It might also be a Nautilus problem I guess, depending on which part fails here. apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected bionic third-party-packages ** Description changed: So yesterday I got the prompt to upgrade my 16LTS system to 18. This caused a number of issues, but the most frustrating issue out of many has to be this one. After a period of inactivity, the lock screen kicks in. When I then try to log in, using the correct password, I get a spinner for about 10 seconds, the "Authentication error". After a couple of seconds "Authentication error" goes away but now it seems no keys are registering at all in the password field. I say "it seems" because I see no "*"s as I type, but I do see occasional prompts of "Authentication error" coming back, but I haven't pinpointed the circumstances - certainly not triggered by hitting ENTER, sometimes backspace? Not sure if it has anything to do with the keys. After this all I can do is log in over ssh and reboot; I'm basically locked out on the console. If I wait a while the keyboard does seem to come back but the problem is still there - my password is not accepted and then the keyboard again seems to do nothing for a while. This happens whether I have a USB keyboard connected or whether I am running Synergy and using a virtual keyboard. [Bug 1792924] [NEW] Passwords entered in GDM can be displayed when switching TTYs
Public bug reported: Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS gdm3: Installed: 3.28.2-0ubuntu1.4 Candidate: 3.28.2-0ubuntu1.4 Version table: *** 3.28.2-0ubuntu1.4 500 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic-updates/main amd64 Packages 500 http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic-security/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 3.28.0-0ubuntu1 500 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic/main amd64 Packages When switching between TTYs or sessions via the Alt+Function keybindings, you can briefly display all entered passwords from the GDM password box. When I was switching from a TTY to my active GNOME Shell session, I accidentally pressed `Alt`+`F1`+`F2` at the same time instead of just `Alt`+`F2`, and when I did this, a black screen with text appeared for a second or so that displayed everything that had been entered into the GDM password box, regardless of which user it was. I believe this may be problematic on multi-user systems. I tried to take a picture but the quality is subpar as I had to handle the camera and press the keys at the same time to capture ( https://photos.app.goo.gl/8k5voYWcvK424xp59 ) The intentionally blurred area is where the passwords/entered text was shown. Chromium is a special case, you'll have to force-enable accessibility to get the OSK to show up. See https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/chromium-browser/+bug/1697641/comments/7. [Bug 1792798] [NEW] gdm3 will start in a new tty after suspend
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I'm not sure if there is any related info in log files because there is no actual crash or error messages. Im using Ubuntu 18.04 and Gnome3 on Xorg. Also, I have a NVidia GT520M with nvidia-390 driver installed through ubuntu-drivers utility. Cant confirm that is a graphics driver issue because I installed it on a fresh Ubuntu. Description === Whenever I suspend my laptop (e.g. close lid) and then turn it on, a new session will be opened in tty2 causing two graphical sessions being executed at the same time (?) Workaround === I found a workaround that simply requires to Log Out from the 2nd session (tty2) and pressing Ctrl+Alt+F1 to go back to the original Xorg session. After that the Login screen will appear. The background image will get pixelized and very distorted when the 2nd Xorg session is loaded. Will try to add a screenshot as attachment. Also, this bug could lead to "bypass" the login menu. I was able to change session without being asked for user password: one is stuck at the login screen and the other is logged in already. Not sure if it is a security issue because it would require a successful authentication beforehand. [Bug 1792822] [NEW] Dual monitor not working in 18.04(.1) on a dual-radeon-GPU system
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Dual monitor setup works fine in 16.04 LTS. Not anymore in 18.04(.1). This renders 18.04 useless. Till this is solved will have to stick with 16.04. i.e. this is a pretty critical bug! After a fresh install from DVD first got a freeze on login screen (live CD will run ubuntu though!). This could be solved by switching to lightdm display manager. (Boo! for GDM that cannot even show a login screen without freezing the system) But one issue remains: the dual monitor setup will not work in 18.04. I can see the mouse move to the second monitor. I can drag windows there (and lose sight of them). I can see the mouse cursor change to click a link. But otherwise there is a completely black screen, or dots / colored fields, but nothing even resembling a program. MB: Gigabyte GA-A75M-UD2H Monitor that works fine: ASUS on Radeon HD 6550D monitor that only shows mouse cursor: benq on Radeon HD 4870 (onboard on the gigabyte motherboard) Note: dual monitor setup did not work with other upgrades after 16.04. I hoped this would be solved with the next LTS update. Not so, to great disappointment! Ubuntu really fails if with new major updates it makes systems fall down. This kind of thing should work FLAWLESS out of the box! How would anyone move to Ubuntu when this kind of thing does not work? Windows is a drama, but at least it has the mere basics working! [Bug 1792857] [NEW] Mouse pointer is the wrong size after resuming from suspend
You have been subscribed to a public bug: After resuming from suspend, but mouse pointer is the wrong size when located in some parts of the screen. Specifically, when mousing over the left or top bars of the UI (not the desktop or any running programs), the pointer is too large. A workaround is to open display settings, pick any other resolution, click apply, then click revert. When the original resolution is restored, the pointer size returns to normal. [Bug 1785498] Re: g_atomic_ref_count_dec: assertion 'g_atomic_int_get (arc) > 0' failed
Have the same issue upgrading from bionic to cosmic. Updating appstream to the version from cosmic workedaround the problem.
