Thanks. Yes MUTTER_DEBUG_ENABLE_ATOMIC_KMS=0 will reliably avoid any

hopefully I will be able to reproduce the problem at some stage.

[Bug 1968929] [NEW] No Wayland support on my NVIDA laptop

2022-04-13 Thread Marcos Alano
Public bug reported:

I'm using Ubuntu 22.04 on a Dell G15 5511 laptop that have an NVIDIA 3060 GPU.
I saw in the last update in the gdm3 package that Wayland will be disabled in
machines with hybrid graphics.
The question is: In this laptop I can enable optimus to use Intel and sometimes
NVIDIA or keep only on NVIDIA (I use this option). So even it's detected two
GPUs the Intel one is unused.
I think the problem could extend for people with a desktop with an integrated
intel GPU and a discrete NVIDIA GPU, since both will be present in the system.
So maybe will be necessary to check with more accuracy to check if there are
two GPUs, but only one is being used or have a documented option to force the
enablement of Wayland.

** Affects: gdm3 (Ubuntu)

There is nothing to implement: the issue is in gtk/mutter, and will be
worked around/fixed there. See
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/issues/2216 for details.

[Bug 1968809] Re: Verify that the gdm cherry-picks are wanted for jammy

2022-04-13 Thread Jeremy Bicha
** Description changed:

I need to check to make sure that we do in fact want the gdm3 cherry-
picks for Jammy so filing this bug to hold things for a moment.
+
+ I cherrypicked all the March 23 commits with
+ https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm3/42.0-1ubuntu3
+ https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gdm/-/commits/main
+
+ The upstream merge proposal with some explanation in the comments was
+ https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gdm/-/merge_requests/171
+
+ We plan to do a partial revert on April 14 in time for Ubuntu 22.04
+ Final Freeze.

[Bug 1964120] Re: gnome-shell crashed with SIGSEGV at ?+a7c called from (Cannot access memory at address [in stack])

2022-04-13 Thread Rafal
Got directed here from bug (private due to coredump attachement) that
Daniel marked a duplicate of this one.

I can reliably reproduce my original issue following:

1. Fresh boot
2. Connect external monitors
3. Put laptop to sleep
4. Wake laptop from sleep (one of two external monitors is still black)
5. Go to Settings -> Display (Gnome thinks both monitors are enabled)
6. Disable the black monitor and enable it again.
7. Gnome enables the problematic monitor for a split second and then disables
it instantly.

Attaching prevboot.txt for the above.

I have so far two workarounds for my issue

Workaround 1:
- go to TTY3 with Ctrl+Alt+F3 (no need to log in, just wait for all monitors to
work)
- go to TTY1 with Ctrl+Alt+F1 (lands on GDM log in page, I log in)
- all monitors now work and applications are preserved (sometimes need to
enable it in settings)

Workaround 2:
- power cycle the black monitor (but without messing with Settings -> Display
first)

Happy to provide more information or test solutions. It was driving me crazy to
at least figure out reproducibility pattern and possible workarounds (stayed
until 3am one night experimenting...).

Not sure if useful but I also learned:
- happens also on kernel 5.17 from
https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v5.17.2/amd64/
- happens also on live usb session from Ubuntu 22.04 so not likely my local
changes
- does not happen on live usb of fedora 36 beta (tested as it also has gnome 42)

[Bug 1961747] Re: [nvidia] Black screen (with grey squares) after resume from sleep

2022-04-13 Thread Henrik Harmsen
** Description changed:

Problem: Screen is black when resuming from sleep. Only a few grey
  squares are shown.

Software: Latest Ubuntu 22.04 (updated 21st of february). Nvidia 495
- drivers.
+ drivers. Update: Tested again with 22.04 reinstalled as of 12th of
+ April. This gave me Nvidia 510.60 drivers. Same problem.

Hardware: Ryzen 5900x, Nvidia 3080ti GPU.

  Configuration: Wayland at login screen.

Analysis: Maybe Video RAM is purged during sleep and then it is not
  restored when resuming.

Yes, that's definitely the intention. Mozilla was concerned that they
didn't have automated testing in place to catch bugs and regressions in
a timely manner, hence the temporary revert. See

[Bug 1964541] Re: Cannot use Drag and Drop in gnome-shell 42 (Wayland session)

2022-04-13 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I hope we get back to Firefox with Wayland enabled soon because the
performance difference was noticeable last time I checked.

[Bug 1964541] Re: Cannot use Drag and Drop in gnome-shell 42 (Wayland session)

2022-04-13 Thread Olivier Tilloy
Corrado is right, but that's a side effect of disabling native wayland
support in the firefox snap, thus having it use xwayland, rather than an
actual fix to the root cause of the problem. But as Daniel is pointing
out, a proper fix is coming.

Note that only the stable channel has been reverted to xwayland, the
firefox snap in beta and edge will still do wayland natively.

No I don't think so...

FAIL: 99.0-2 (1188)
FAIL: 100.0b5-1 (1236)

Doesn't matter though, because a proper fix is coming in mutter.
