[Bug 629646] Re: Locations using bom.gov.au for forecast data no longer can no longer retrieve forecast data
The bug is back in Ubuntu 15.10 in libgweather 3.16.1-1ubuntu1 I just installed this release in preparation for the next Ubuntu LTS in 2016 and have seen that the earlier fixes of the Australian BOM forecasts have not propagated through to this version. [Bug 269441] Re: Trash always full
It seems like the Trash icon has some sort of database of mounted drives to keep tabs of items that have been deleted, and then does not refresh this database to only display the status of actually mounted drives. Since it can never "Empty" the trash of unmounted drives, the display remains showing items to be removed on unmounted or removed drives (and the removable drives could have their Trash actually emptied on other systems anyway). It seems that the Trash icon needs to hook into the mount/unmount processes to keep itself only displaying the status of drives that are actually mounted on the system at any particular time. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/269441 Title: Trash always full To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-applets/+bug/269441/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 955673] [NEW] Ubuntu One Contact Address Book does not migrate correctly
Public bug reported: Using Evolution on 12.04 B1 when migrating from 10.04 LTS system (existing /home folder from 10.04 used) results in CouchDB "Ubuntu One" Address Book not working on 12.04 system. Evolution version on 10.04 is 2.28.3, 12.04 version is 3.2.3. All other Address Books seem to migrate ok. Error message is: - This address book cannot be opened. This either means that an incorrect URI was entered, or the server is unreachable. Detailed error message: Invalid source - And you cannot delete this Address Book to remove the error whenever you access this book. I believe that the issue might be that CouchDB is no longer used in 12.04, but it still gets migrated from the old 10.04 /home folder setup. Given that many 10.04 LTS users may well stay with Evolution in 12.04, this could be a significant issue for those of us who will do this. [Bug 761037] Re: Evolution failed to properly migrate Local Contacts during 2.32 (Natty) Upgrade
I can confirm this in a migration to 2.3.2 from 2.28.3 on my Ubuntu 10.04 system. The files in the old .evolution tree were converted/moved to the new .local/share/evolution tree but only the first local Address Book worked. To sum up, only the first "On This Computer" address book sources entry was converted correctly with the relative URI, the remaining Address Books still had the file path to the old .evolution file path left in their definitions. Manually removing the old "uri="file:." entries using the gconf- editor on the /apps/evolution/addressbook/sources key fixed the problem and then allowed the data in those extra Address Books to appear. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evolution in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/761037 Title: Evolution failed to properly migrate Local Contacts during 2.32 (Natty) Upgrade To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/evolution/+bug/761037/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

"System settings now has a "System Info" icon, which shows the 64-bit in the OS type field of the overview. Fixed if you ask me, this bug can be closed" Quite the opposite, in fact. If the code already exists to show this missing data then it should be trivial to patch this package and actually fix it properly. It is a very poor excuse to tell people to assemble the information that they may need from multiple sources because of essentially trivial deficiencies in one source. The "System info" doesn't even tell you the kernel or Gnome versions that are running, both important items when a novice user is asked to provide info about their system when asking for help, so that cannot be considered as any replacement for the more information provided by the System Monitor package. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-system-monitor in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/531762 Title: System monitor System tab should show architecture (32/64bit) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-system-monitor/+bug/531762/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 879305] [NEW] POP "Leave messages on server" now requires "Days"
Public bug reported: Evolution 3.x has changed in the POP Receiving Options to have the "Leave Messages On Server" selection linked to the "Days" value. In Evolution 2.x (and probably previous versions) these options were separate. This is very confusing for users who want *all* their POP messages left on the server with no day filtering, and seems non-standard when compared to previous Evolution versions and just about every other POP client that I have encountered. It is like the algorithm that tries to "grey out" the display mistakenly treats the overall combined screen resolution area as one single display, where in fact it is still two (or more) individual displays and should be treated as such (as the Gnome panels still do in this mode only displaying on the primary monitor). [Bug 587387] Re: Weather Report applet no longer retreives forecast at my location (Melbourne, Australia)
AFAIK you don't, the developers have to change the code of where they obtain the various location information to directly use the BOM FTP site - any other location is not guaranteed by the BOM to be reliable as they make changes to their web sites. I spent time looking in the configuration files that I could find and could not locate any places for URLs to override the current settings. It would be nice if the developers of this function allowed people to directly enter URLs to fill the various screens (like they do with the weather Radar), then people not in the major cities could directly select available forecast info for their locality which may not currently be the selection lists we see now. -- Weather Report applet no longer retreives forecast at my location (Melbourne, Australia) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/587387 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-applets in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 608597] Re: Nautilus memory not released when closed
So when I start a root Nautilus screen (either via the nautilus-gksu package or manually) and then close it, I have to live with ~190MiB of memory permanently used until my system is rebooted or I manually kill that process? If I manually end the Nautilus process via the System Manager (user and/or root processes) my system still mounts devices and seem to operate as normal (the script that changes my desktop background on a regular basis runs as normal). If Nautilus is not in memory in my system, when devices are mounted the Nautilus window appears (as normal) to show the files, and again it remains in memory if the sole Nautilus window is closed. If my system seems to operate normally without Nautilus in memory, then why is it necessary for it to always be there? Nautilus is not a trivial user of memory resources, it does not make a lot of sense if it firstly remains using that resource when run as root, and secondly if it does not actually have to remain in memory for normal Gnome functionality for the logged in user. -- Nautilus memory not released when closed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/608597 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

I have just discovered that the BOM have been experimenting with the formatting of the Melbourne forecast page that is used to extract the info the applet presents: http://www.bom.gov.au/vic/forecasts/melbourne.shtml The forecast text is currently massaged to be full of HTML formatting whereas cities like Sydney and Brisbane still have plain text and still work in the applet. [Bug 595823] Re: Non-admin users can format removable media
I understand the rationale of allowing some users control of their External devices to the extent of formatting, but there is no way I know of to restrict this ability if you didn't actually want them to do it. With so many people these days storing important data on external storage devices, this mindset of treating external USB storage devices *differently* to internal storage now seems out of date to me. This mindset may have been valid from the days of floppy drives and even up until recently where USB storage was considered as a sort of second- class method of storing data, but times have changed and even though I can see this functionality as useful to the right people, having it as an unavoidable feature available to every class of Ubuntu user is just playing with fire. That is basically why I consider this a security issue, if some part of the definition of security means preventing users having the ability to permanently delete data on a system (that is not necessarily *their* data) when perhaps they should not have that ability. I'll just wait in the forums until a post pops up saying that "little Johnny formatted my 1TB external drive where we had all our kiddies movies stored on, even though I thought I created his account as a normal unprivileged user and only gave him read-only access to the files so he could just play them, please help me recover the files as they were really important to us". -- Non-admin users can format removable media https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/595823 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-disk-utility in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 595825] Re: Non-admin users can format removable media
Ok, my concept of security encompasses *all* the data that the user has access to, whether connected via internal storage or external storage so that is why I considered this a "Security Vulnerability", obviously that is not the commonly accepted definition in this domain. I sort of find it amusing that an External storage device may well have various file system permission settings to prevent users from writing/deleting data, but apparently it is accepted that they can still format the entire device anyway... Anyway, I created a new user with standard "Desktop User" privileges, logged in as that user, inserted a USB drive and was able to format that drive without any request for further authorisation. I do not believe any formatting tools were available in previous Ubuntu releases that did not require sudo authorisation to run, so that is why I consider this new functionality to be a security issue. I will investigate the Policykit option. -- Non-admin users can format removable media https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/595825 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

I created a new user with the standard "Desktop User" privileges, checked that it did not have System Admin rights and then logged in as that user. I put in a USB drive and I can right-click format that drive *without* any further restriction or Authorisation request, so yes I do think that is a security problem. [Bug 215541] Re: Imap mail Filtering broken as of 11/04/08
Ok, more information. I renamed my existing .evolution profile, let Evolution create a fresh one and the IMAP filtering works as expected (as described above in the other posts). I then renamed the folders to get my existing data back, and then found it was now IMAP filtering as expected - bizarre! [Bug 215541] Re: Imap mail Filtering broken as of 11/04/08
Ok, this is still an issue on Ubuntu 10.04 Evolution 2.28.3 on existing Evolution profiles upgraded from earlier releases. I have created a fresh profile on a different user and the IMAP filtering works, but on my existing system that has been preserved in a separate /home partition through numerous upgrades it will not filter on IMAP e-mails as the OP has described. Most people will be using upgraded systems and not creating a fresh Evolution profile every time a new version comes along, so there needs to be a proper resolution to this with someone taking the time to find the invalid configuration item that is causing this issue. -- Imap mail Filtering broken as of 11/04/08 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/215541 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 537052] [NEW] Theme previews in Appearence now incorrect due to moved window control icons
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-control-center Because Ubuntu 10.04 alpha now has decided to move the Window control icons (Maximise, Minimise,Close) to the LHS of all windows, all the previews of available Themes are now misleading as they show these icons in their "traditional" positions on the RHS. This will be confusing to users as they will expect a theme to actually look like the preview - otherwise why bother having the preview at all? I personally thought that the LHS icons were just part of a new theme and was most disappointed when I could not revert back to "normal" just by selecting a different theme. When I found out that I had to use the gconf editor to hack the relevant Metacity definition to fix things (a most user-unfriendly "feature") I was more disappointed.
