[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1512002] Re: Annoying dialog "Authentication is required to change your own user data"
Here is one method to see the dialog without working remotely: sudo sed 's/yes/auth_self/' -i /usr/share/polkit-1/actions/org.freedesktop.accounts.policy Then press Alt+Ctrl+F2 to switch to vt2, and Alt+Ctrl+F7 to switch back to vt7. After testing, to revert the change, run: sudo sed 's/auth_self/yes/' -i /usr/share/polkit-1/actions/org.freedesktop.accounts.policy On LTSP thin clients, one can reproduce it by just changing VTs, without changing the accountsservice polkit files. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to policykit-1-gnome in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1512002 Title: Annoying dialog "Authentication is required to change your own user data" Status in accountsservice package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in indicator-messages package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in policykit-1-gnome package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Every few days a dialog pops up saying "Authentication is required to change your own user data" with an entry field for a password. If I type my user's password the dialog will reappear with an empty entry field. If I click on the cross to close the window many times it will be gone, but reappear a few days later. I don't know what this window is for and it makes no difference whether I close it or leave it. I don't use the gnome keyring. This started with Ubuntu 15.04 or maybe with an earlier release, and is still there in Ubuntu 15.10, also on machines I did a fresh install. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1568449] Re: [Toshiba Satellite S55-C5247] ETPS/2 Elantech Touchpad not working
This ended up being a BIOS+OS interaction issue. When booting to Windows, it honored the Touchpad enable/disable button. Ubuntu doesn't. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1446053] Re: Font corruption some characters suddenly not rendered after login or after a period of usage
The laptop is now on 15.10 and I have not seen the bug. It may have been fixed in 15.04, I can't remember it was so long ago since I did that upgrade. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1446053 Title: Font corruption some characters suddenly not rendered after login or after a period of usage Status in xorg package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: This has occurred multiple times on my machine (Dell Inspiron 13 7000 series laptop), it happens without warning. After which time suddenly application windows will fail to render certain characters making everything unreadable. In the past it has happened immediately after login, this time it happened after ~30 minutes usage from a cold boot. See attached screenshot. This doesn't happen for every window, chrome is generally ok, as are the unity launcher. The tools in the system tray and the power off menu are affected, as are nautilus, gedit, and application menus generally. Rolling over labels sometimes causes them to rener properly while the mouse is over them. Terminal is fine There is a workaround which is to change the font antialiasing settings with unity tweak tool, however this isn't a permanent fix - last time it was set to RGBA, so I changed it to Grayscale. This time it happened it was set to Grayscale and I set it to RGBA and it fixes it. I don't know enough to know whether this is a video driver issue, or a problem with gtk or what, so it's possible you may need to recategorise this defect. One other thing that may be useful info is that twiddling the antialiasing drop-down fixes and breaks the font rendering on the fly, when I see this problem. These days XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP will look something like Unity GNOME (gnome-shell) GNOME-Classic:GNOME (gnome-shell classic mode) GNOME-Flashback:Unity (Flashback sesison, although upstream and debian use GNOME-Flashack:GNOME for this) Many of the patches only check for == "Unity" or == "GNOME", so misbehave for the latter cases in the list above. I suspect this will be more widespread than just nautilus, but fixing that would be a good start. "Live Window List" still exists in gnome-panel, but no matter doing what (such as open new application from gnome-menu or use Alt+Tab to switch window), none of live windows can be displayed. So the only way is to switch to tty1 using Ctrl+Alt+F1, and executing "DISPLAY=:0 metacity -c --replace", then all windows came back. Till now, I meet this bug every day, but still not sure how to reproduce it bug. I think you should trace what the metacity do when clicking "close button" that makes all windows to be disappeared. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1557904] Re: 3 bugs from metacity 3.18.2 (for Ubuntu 16.04 xenial)
Hi, I have sent a webm record of this issue ** Attachment added: "Ubuntu.webm" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/metacity/+bug/1557904/+attachment/4631322/+files/Ubuntu.webm -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to metacity in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1557904 Title: 3 bugs from metacity 3.18.2 (for Ubuntu 16.04 xenial) Status in metacity package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: 1. Bug: Many Gtk3 Softwares don't show their border of window, based on Ubuntu Light-theme. (See attachment Bug1) sudo apt-get install gnome-session-flashback gnome-system-monitor gedit light-theme [Logout and login to Gnome Flashback Session (Metacity)] Open nautilus window browser, Open gnome-system-monitor, then open "Preference" item from menu. Open gedit, then open "Preference" item from menu. .. Non of these window have border, which is extremely unfit under metacity compositing mode (metacity -c --replace). Note: If I install an old version - metacity 3.14 (from Ubuntu 15.04 repository), it does have this problem. So it's metacity 3.18 that cause those border miss. 2. Bug: metacity are supposed to quit if a new window-manager replace it. Run: metacity -c --replace Then run: metacity -c --replace The previous metacity process doesn't quit, which both metacity 3.14 (from ubuntu vivid) and marco (from ubuntu xenial) doesn't happen. 3. Bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/metacity/+bug/1538111 This bug still not fixed. There is a small possiblity that closing a certain window will make all of other windows disappear, nothing would do anymore expect killing metacity and run metacity again. Then disappearred windows display again! I only found out that if I frequently plugin and plugout external screen monitor, the possiblity of getting stuck into this bug becomes larger, and "close a window" operation is key that might cause this bug. When doing lots of mess work in Desktop (such as open desktop window, sudo window, dragging window, and so on), "!! WHEN CLICKING CLOSE BUTTON OF A CERTAIN WINDOW !!", there is "small possibility" for metacity to get out of work --> Many windows are disappeared, with only nautilus desktop background and gnome-panel on screen. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1342675] Re: Random characters in screen text suddenly disappear
Same problem on 16.04 after resume or switching user. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1342675 Title: Random characters in screen text suddenly disappear Status in xserver-xorg-video-intel package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: While using my machine, characters suddenly disappear. No character in particular, not in any single application in particular, and copying and pasting the text preserves the characters. Scrolling the text out of view and back into view doesn't affect the missing characters. Switching between applications may change the affected characters (possibly due to a redraw operation?) Restarting often solves the problem, but it comes back after a couple of hours working. I've attached a screenshot to show you the problem. I do believe this is different than the bug relating to garbled characters in a number of ways 1. I don't ever get garbled characters 2. Scrolling out/in of the affected text doesn't re-show the missing characters, even navigating inside the application has no effect. 3. It's global, I can even see it on Desktop icon names ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.04 Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.99.910-0ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.13.0-30.55-generic 3.13.11.2 Uname: Linux 3.13.0-30-generic x86_64 .tmp.unity.support.test.0: ApportVersion: 2.14.1-0ubuntu3.2 Architecture: amd64 CompizPlugins: No value set for `/apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/active_plugins' CompositorRunning: compiz CompositorUnredirectDriverBlacklist: '(nouveau|Intel).*Mesa 8.0' CompositorUnredirectFSW: true CurrentDesktop: Unity Date: Wed Jul 16 14:48:25 2014 DistUpgraded: 2014-06-29 16:38:35,552 DEBUG enabling apt cron job DistroCodename: trusty DistroVariant: ubuntu DkmsStatus: virtualbox, 4.3.10, 3.11.0-24-generic, x86_64: installed virtualbox, 4.3.10, 3.13.0-30-generic, x86_64: installed ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes GraphicsCard: Intel Corporation Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:0046] (rev 02) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: LG Electronics, Inc.
