[Bug 60163] Text coloring in Excel cell is not working

The code from comment 1 was tested on a SXSSFWorkbook and colors the text (not
background fill). Coloring part of the text in a cell requires RichTextStrings,
which SXSSF does not currently support. Supporting this would require
maintaining a shared strings table, negating some of the memory benefits of
SXSSF.

We will happily review submitted patches and unit tests for optionally allowing
a shared strings table and rich text strings in SXSSF if they meet the needs of
the community.

[Bug 60163] New: Text coloring in Excel cell is not working

2016-09-22 Thread bugzilla
https://bz.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=60163

Bug ID: 60163
Summary: Text coloring in Excel cell is not working
   Product: POI
   Version: 3.13-FINAL
  Hardware: PC
Status: NEW
  Severity: critical
  Priority: P2
 Component: SXSSF
  Assignee: dev@poi.apache.org
  Reporter: ratnachar...@gmail.com

Hi Team,

We are using Apache Poi 3.13 final jars.

We used SXSSF workbook for an export of records using MS Xcel.

Records are exporting but,Workbook's apply font method is not working and
beacuse of this coloring of text in the excel columns is not at all working.

Being low memory adaption technique in SXSSF work book, apply font wont work,i
know this.
But can u please suggest a working solution, without changing the SXSSF
workbook?
If any jar change may work, please suggest.

Thanks a lot
Ratna

Re: Switch to maven?

2016-09-22 Thread Javen O'Neal
I have added Gradle support in r1761871 [1] with one line of code,
though requires that Ant be installed on the system.

I would like to leapfrog Maven. While it does offer some dependency
benefits and enjoys pretty high market share, reading and writing XML
is something that should be reserved exclusively for computers, and
that's my biggest gripe with Ant.

Whatever solution we go with, we probably want to maintain 2 solutions
in parallel for a year or more while we rewrite the build targets in
build.xml into the new build file(s).

Informally, here's the relative popularity of these build tools over
the last 5 years. Maven is the de facto standard for Java projects,
but build tools with DSLs (Gradle: Groovy, SBT: Scala, Bazel: Python)
are gaining popularity.
https://www.google.com/trends/explore?cat=5=Ant,Ivy,Maven,Gradle,SBT
which is roughly the same as
https://www.google.com/trends/explore?cat=5=build.xml,pom.xml,build.gradle,.sbt
but is less likely to include queries about insects and plants.

Another heartbeat is to search large open source code repositories to
see what kinds of build tools are being used. Unfortunately,
github.com/search is garbage if you want to search for exact file
names.
Searching google.com for each build filename, we get:
build.xml (Ant): 2.33 million
pom.xml (Maven): 3.3 million
build.gradle (Gradle): 0.49 million
.sbt (Scala Build Tool): 0.399 million
Gradle: 1073

[Bug 60165] negative dates in poi for java application doesn't supported?

2016-09-22 Thread bugzilla
https://bz.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=60165

Possibly relevant:
https://svn.apache.org/viewvc/poi/trunk/src/testcases/org/apache/poi/ss/usermodel/TestDateUtil.java?view=markup

I believe POI supports 1900 dates, which is what Microsoft Excel uses. The
xls/xslx format cannot represent earlier dates.
Search the developer list and pasy bugs. I think this question has come up
before for users trying to represent medieval and BC dates.

Good point!

A one sentence "Apache POI is a Java library for reading and writing
Microsoft Office files" should do. We'll add this to our announce template
for future releases.

Looks like.we will lose Gump support if we upgrade to Maven2 or Gradle, not
that we have been doing much with the Gump CI build timeout errors.

[Bug 59021] XSSFSheetXMLHandler is using qName instead of localName and missing cells/rows

Excel file broken with the change

The attached excel file is generated by Microsoft Excel 2016 for Mac. The file
can no longer be extracted since 3.14 after the change in this ticket is
introduced. As I debug startElement() function call, uri is empty but not null
(""). Also localName is empty while qName is present.

I think the other patches accepted for Structured Reference syntax cover this.
I've been on other tasks for a bit, will be digging back into the project that
needed this shortly. If I find anything else, it would be new bugs filed
separately (hopefully with patches :D )

Can you try with a more recent version of POI? I've just tried with the most
recent, and I see the same text from POI and Tika as I do in OpenOffice ("Table
1" but that's about it)

Re: Apache POI 3.15 released

2016-09-22 Thread sebb
What is the project about? Why should I be interested in it?
[rhetorical questions]

The Announce emails are sent to people not on the developer or user lists.
Most will have no idea what the project is about.

So the e-mails should contain at least brief details of what the
product does, and some info on why the new release might be of
interest to them.

Readers should not have to click the link to find out the basic information
(although of course it is useful to have such links for further detail).

Please can you add that information to future announce mails?

Thanks.
