Batch upgrade of PETSc Sundials MUMPS libraries

2024-05-17 Thread Antonio T. sagitter

Hi all.

I'm preparing (1) following updates for Fedora 41:

PETSc-3.21.1 (https://petsc.org/release/changes/321/)
MUMPS-5.7.1 (https://mumps-solver.org/index.php?page=dwnld#cl)
Sundials-7.0.0 (https://github.com/LLNL/sundials/releases/tag/v7.0.0)

All dependent packages can be rebuilt with these new releases except
bout++-5.1.0 that it's incompatible with Sundials-7; bout++ upstream
already modified their code to work with Sundials-7 but it's unreleased

yet (https://github.com/boutproject/BOUT-dev/tree/next).

Re: Version number of python-future

Thank you

Hi Antonio.

The problem is in the project metadata. When I open the SRPM this
package is built from and the take a look at the source tarball, I find
this in the src/future/__init__.py:

__ver_minor__ = 18
__ver_patch__ = 2

So it seems that they released version 0.18.3 with the wrong version in
this file. This is already fixed upstream and when I download the
tarball again, it also has a different hash.

I did a mock rebuild with the new tarball and the result contains:

Provides: future = 0:0.18.3-2.fc38 future-python3 = 0:0.18.3-2.fc38
python-future = 0.18.3-2.fc38 python3-future = 0.18.3-2.fc38
python3.11-future = 0.18.3-2.fc38 python3.11dist(future) = 0.18.3

Hi all.

Current and older 'qwtplot3d' sub-packages (0.2.7) will be obsoleted by
newer Qt5/Qt6 rpms of 'qwtplot3d' (0.3.0)

The rpm 'qwtplot3d-qt5' will be retired because replaced by 'qwtplot3d'
sub-packages.

Please, let me know if anyone still needs qwtplot3d (Qt4) 0.2.7

Okay.

I'm rebuilding your package in my Copr project
(https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/sagitter/ForTesting/); please,
require builder permissions inside it to build all Scotch dependent
packages you maintain.

Same thing i will do with those mine.

When all RPMs will be ready, we will can push them in Rawhide.

Metis is not a "dead project", its maintainers have a GitHub project

activate the Metis code in Scotch.

I've got the same issue with elpa. OpenMPI hangs, MPICH works fine.

We have:

I've reported it upstream as well.  Hopefully they can help.

openSUSE had a similar bug:

Maybe that is related.

Handle sysroot.readyonly=true migration in other rpm-ostree Fedora(s)

2022-10-10 Thread Antonio Murdaca
Hi folks, in rpm-ostree based systems like fedora iot I would love to handle
the migration process similar to what happens today in silverblue et all wrt
sysroot.readonly
https://pagure.io/workstation-ostree-config/blob/main/f/postprocess.sh -
unfortunately that systemd service and script aren't packaged anywhere and I'd
love to have it versioned in RPMs to be used by other spins too. I couldn't
find any other conversations around this so I'm opening this one to discuss how
and where such a migration should be handled/shipped/run in other systems.
Thanks a lot in advance

Adding subpackages to EPEL

2022-08-30 Thread Antonio Torres
Hi everyone,

I'm the maintainer of the FreeRADIUS package in Fedora and RHEL. This
package contains multiple subpackages that are shipped in Fedora while
In RHEL9 we removed some of these. There are some users requesting
these subpackages to be available in RHEL9, so I would like to add
them to EPEL9.
All these subpackages are shipped in Fedora but not in RHEL9:

freeradius-{mysql,postgresql,sqlite,unixODBC}
freeradius-perl
freeradius-rest

I tried to create an EPEL9 branch but I can't since "This package is
already an EL package, therefore it cannot be in EPEL". This is true
for the base freeradius package and some subpackages, but not all. How
can I add these to EPEL?

Thanks!

Archive value is out of time_t range

2022-06-02 Thread Antonio T. sagitter

Hi all.

rpmuncompress is failing in Rawhide i686 architecture only with:

/usr/bin/tar: Archive value 4027676192 is out of time_t range
-2147483648..2147483647
/usr/bin/tar:
icecat-91.10.0/extensions/gnu/jid1-KtlZuoiikVfFew@jetpack/bundle.js:
implausibly old time stamp 1969-12-31 23:59:59

...

If it was an archive issue, it should happen in all architectures.
Anyone know why this occurs?

Best,

Re: Batch updates PETSc-3.17 hypre-2.24.0 superlu_dist-7.2.0

dolfin-2019.1.0.post0-21.fc35.src.rpm

PETSc-3.17 needs superlu_dist-6.3.0 at least, so i prepared a new recent

The package provides two desktop files, for Wayland and x11 with

I will apply the patch and try again.

openbabel-3.1* in Rawhide

2021-09-03 Thread Antonio T. sagitter

@fedora
These are some information for upgrading to openbabel3.

@epel7
It's also opened a bugzilla ticket (#1628243) for building
openbabel-2.4.1 on epel7

Are we definitely interested?

Almost two years ago (how time flies!), when the subject had been
first broached, Dominik provided this list:

Link-time dependencies:
IQmol
avogadro
ghemical

Okay with debian patch:
https://sources.debian.org/src/ghemical/3.0.0-5/debian/patches/openbabel3.patch/

I've applied this to Fedora git source.

gnome-chemistry-utils

debian says only a small modification is needed:
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=946263#20

kalzium
molsketch

xdrawchem

https://github.com/bryanherger/xdrawchem/pull/17

Run-time dependencies:
avogadro2
chemtool
molsketch

At the time, I think only Molsketch was compatible with Open Babel 3.
After getting version 3.1.1 to build[1], I spent a few weekends trying
to modify gnome-chemistry-utils, but due to lack of time I didn't go
very far and looking at the code in my files, I'm not really sure what
I've actually done, I don't remember much. Personally, I use avogadro*
a lot, which you maintain (and therefore I don't worry about it ;) )
and GChemCalc (almost daily) and sometimes GSpectrum from g-c-u,
neither of which is indispensable, though both are quite handy. I
haven't checked any of the other programs on that list recently, but
about a year ago, not much had changed.

I can leave to you an openbabel-3 srpm or Copr builds of it for your
tests.

One week is a minimal time, no problem if you need more time.

As far as I can tell, Molsketch will use whichever version of Open
Babel is installed on the system and users of a couple of other
distros have been building it against v3 without any problems, so I
don't expect any either. Just please let me know when you've built it
in Rawhide and I'll do the rebuild then - hopefully the new version
will also be out by that time.

Best regards,
A.

'openbabel2' and 'openbabel3' cannot co-exist if installed because they
have same binary files, it's a "binary name conflicts".

Is it acceptable an openbabel2/openbabel(3) conflict in Fedora?

Re: orphaning openbabel

'openbabel' is still developed, i see.
I take it

In the end, I didn't actually orphan the package, but I didn't do any

in a week. It's pending an update to the next major version and I
haven't looked at that at all. If anyone wants to take it before I hit
the 'orphan' button, let me know this week.

Re: Updating quazip to version 1.1 in rawhide - rebuild of several packages in side-tag needed

2021-08-18 Thread Antonio T. sagitter

Hi Ondrej.

On 8/18/21 10:45 AM, Ondrej Mosnacek wrote:

Hello,

I would like to update quazip to version 1.1 in rawhide (i.e. future
F36) [1][2], but since this update will change sonames (libquazip.so
-> libquazip1-qt4.so and libquazip5.so -> libquazip1-qt5.so), I will
need the dependent packages' maintainers (in Bcc) to rebuild them in a
side tag (I'm not a provenpackager, so I can't do that myself,
although Nicolas (@kwizart) offered to help if needed).

Affected packages:
bletchmame
ckb-next
fritzing
gimagereader
GLC_lib
keepassxc
krita
nomacs
qcad
qmapshack
texstudio

Even though the library/include/CMake paths changed, there seem to be
no breaking API changes and I added compat symlinks/files to the
-devel packages so that all packages using the old paths will still
build (and link against the new soname) without modification (I tested
this in COPR, see [3]). So a simple release bump + rebuild into the
side tag should be enough.

After the side tag is merged, I will try to gradually submit PRs to
migrate the dependent packages to use the new paths (either via
pkgconfig or the CMake modules). Once all dependent packages are
migrated, it will be possible to remove the compat hacks from -devel
packages (though we might want to keep them longer for user
convenience).

Current plan:
1. I request a side tag, merge [2], and build the new quazip in the side tag.
2. I announce the side-tag in this thread and ask for dependent
packages to be rebuilt in it.
3. Once all the packages are successfully built in the side tag, I get
the side tag merged.

If there are no objections, I will execute steps 1 and 2 sometime next
week (or sooner if I get a positive acknowledgement for all packages).
Maintainers, please let me know if you are ready to do the side-tag
rebuild, or if you'd prefer to defer this a bit (for example due to a
conflict with other group rebuild).

I agree to do the side-tag and rebuild the related packages. I maintain
qcad that looks okay with quazip-1.1

Thanks!

Re: Packages that failed to build with Python 3.10 (and what to do)

The packages, when not rebuilt, are not installable in rawhide, hence
fixing them should be our top priority. If you need help with
Python-related issues, we (the Python Maintenance team at Red Hat) are
happy to help. Unfortunately, several packages fail to build for
Python-unrelated reasons.

Most of the packages only fail to build because their dependencies were
not yet rebuilt. Chances are, you already got an automated
F35FailsToInstall bugzilla from Miro, that your package fails to
install. It would be really helpful if you could find the missing
dependency and mark the bugzilla for your package dependingon the
bugzilla for the missing dep. Weslowly progress to do that as well, but
your help is crucial here.

If your package fails because there isanon-dependency problem, you might
have already received a bugzilla from us in the past. If the build
failure is related to changes in Python 3.10, it should contain some
hints about the problem.

# What to do?

General advice: If you are aware of the problem and working towards
fixing it, set your bugzilla to ASSIGNED to avoid further automated
reminders.

If blocked by dependencies, do not close the bugzillas as NOTABUG or
DUPLICATE just because it is "not a problem in your package". The
automation will file new ones anyway.

## My package fails to build because it has test failures in %check

Please, try to resolve the failures. If you are confident that the
package works fine, but the tests are wrong, skip some failing tests,
ideally with a link to an upstream issue. Do not disable (e.g. comment
out) all tests just to unblock the rebuild of your package, it usually
only hides the problem.

## My package fails to build because it has broken build dependencies

Please try to track the missing build dependencies in Bugzilla. If
possible, help the maintainers of your dependencies to get them rebuilt.
When in need of escalation, ask us for provenpackager help (ideally with
pull requests to be merged). Once possible, rebuild your package (no
need to bump the release, we already did that). When you do, the
bugzilla will eventually get automatically closed, but you can do that
manually as well.

## My package was rebuilt with Python 3.10 but it has broken runtime
dependencies

Please try to track the missing runtime dependencies in Bugzilla. If
possible, help the maintainers of your dependencies to get them rebuilt.
When in need of escalation, ask us for provenpackager help (ideally with
pull requests to be merged). When the dependencies are rebuilt, your
package will install successfully once again and the bugzilla will
eventually get automatically closed, but you can do that manually as well.

## My package failed to build but installs just fine

Some packages that only require libpython3.9.so.1.0 will successfully
pull in the python3.9 package as a dependency and hence they don't have
installation issues. They need to be rebuilt with Python 3.10 anyway, we
don't want Fedora users to pull in two Python versions unless they need
them for development purposes.

## How to run things locally?

You can use mock. Make sure to:

  1. Clear all caches first: $ mock -r fedora-rawhide-x86_64--scrub=all
  2. Use the Koji repo: $ mock -r fedora-rawhide-x86_64

Would you have some information on what has changed in the new Sundials
version please?

https://github.com/LLNL/sundials/releases/tag/v5.7.0

It's incompatible with Sundials-5.7.0, i guess.

STEPS still embeds cvode-2.6.0 as bundled Sundials code.

(There's a new version of steps out too, so that may fix it already.
I'll have to take a look.)

I'm taking Ekiga.
It would be a shame letting die the rpm.

Might not be a good idea. Ekiga is dead long time ago, lacks behind
standards and RFCs, and might not be usable in some modern cases. I
personally advice you to let it go and look around for modern
alternatives.

We'd better have Jitsi (Java-based, beware!) or Jami in repos.
