Re: [Finale] Staff sets

2016-06-27 Thread Christopher Smith
Chord symbols that have been dragged or nudged out of their default position
can be easily restored to default. Go to the Chord Tool, Select All (cmd-A) if
you want to do it with all of them, or simply drag around the ones you want to
change. Hit the Clear button. This will only work if you HAVE a Clear key,
which most laptops don’t.

Otherwise, you can go to the Utilities Menu>Change>Chords… and select Add To
Default Position… zero, and hit Okay.

For Staff Sets, go to the Staff Tool. Command-click each of the right-hand
staff handles you want to add to the set. Then go to the View Menu>Staff Sets>
and hold down the Alt key to change Select into Program. Choose one of the
numbers. This only works in Scroll View, as that is the only place Staff Sets
makes a difference.

[Finale] Fin2011 and Win10

2016-06-27 Thread Aaron Sherber
Hi all,

I recently upgraded my PC to Win10, and I'm working on an older project in
Fin2011. I've noticed that when I open up the Expression Designer window,
it works very slowly -- large delay after each keystroke in the Text window
before the new characters show up.

Has anybody else experienced this? Any workarounds or fixes?

Thanks,
Aaron.

[Finale] Help needed quickly

2016-06-27 Thread David Wolfson
Don’t know if this will be enough to help, but in the text box dialog you can
change from “attached to page” to “attached to measure.” It will remove manual
positioning, but it will then survive cutting and pasting, and it would be less
work than recreating everything as expressions.

I agree with the PDF suggestion. In making various versions of larger scores,
I've used this way of re-ordering. You can even eliminate page numbers in your
Finale score, and place them in Adobe Acrobat (or other PDF creators).

Hello Raymond.

Would it help to make PDF of everything and and then delete and reorder the
pages.
Then it’s possible to keep working on the music, just make PDF of changed pages.

Yes, I realize that that would fix it , if I have done that from the
beginning. But the problem is that I have a 200 Page score with many many
text pages. Thank you

Hi Raymond,

if I understood your problem correctly: create an expression that has the same
text as currently and then use only the expression tool instead of the text
tool and assign it to a particular note or measure.

[Finale] Help needed quickly

2016-06-27 Thread Raymond Horton
Hi folks, I have a massive project due Thursday, and some big problems with
it. I know I probably should have exported this into some other program,
but I want to keep be able to keep working on the music. It is a musical
with pages of text interspersed between songs. my collaborator wants to
move some of the songs, but this means I have to read a sign every page of
text. Is there some way to delete pages of music, while at the same time
keeping the pages of text relative to the same location?
Right now, if I move a song to a later position in the score , the text
stays assigned to the same page number, instead of its place in the score.

Thanks for any help.

Re: [Finale] Bar spacing ( increase size to fit complex changes )

2016-06-27 Thread Christopher Smith
Others have told you how to widen a measure manually. Unfortunately, this
method doesn’t survive a music respace. What I generally do is put rests in the
measure in Layer 1, which affect the music spacing. Depending on how much space
I need, I enter quarter rests, eight rests, or sixteenth rests. You get good at
estimating how much space you need.

You may be tempted to turn on “chords” as something to avoid collisions with in
Music Spacing. Do not do this, as Finale does not know whether you actually
HAVE a chord symbol on the next note, and avoids it anyway. This means that if
you put a chord symbol over a running eighth note line, Finale will open an
ENORMOUS amount of space on the first eighth note with a chord, when you don’t
actually need it. Finale should know when there’s a chord, like it knows with
lyrics.

It sounded like you had a second question about the quickest way to enter
chords. I use “type into score”. Click on the first note, hit E, then lower
case b, then 7, and get Eb7. Sh-3 is a sharp. Spacebar moves to the next note.
If you need a complex chord symbol that you don’t know how to type (but you
know you have it in your chord library) hit Eb: (colon) then zero (0) and
spacebar, which makes the chord selection dialogue box open up. Choose your
suffix from there. For the next time you need that suffix, take note of the
suffix slot number, and type that number in instead of zero.

To make a measure wider: Choose Measure Tool, double-click the measure you
want, check the "Width" box and enter a higher number in the field.

To widen a bar, select the Measure tool, click-and-drag the handle for
the barline at the right edge of the measure you want larger, moving it
to the right. When it's the size you want, let go of the mouse button.

When entering changes on say a guitar part or piano when the changes clash and
don't fit the bar
How do you widen the bar so all changes fit ?
I clicked on all staff analysis with no luck
I keep getting unknown chord suffix box
The one that reads I'll do it let finale do it cancel
Would be great to have a quick easy way to enter changes
