Re: [Flashcoders] LocalConnection and Media Components?
I downloaded your examples and they worked fine both in the IDE and the browser. I'm going to just try and rebuild from those. As I stated, I already had coded a working player (with static file location), so I'll try and merge your localconnection examples and go from there. Thanks for your help and time. Re: [Flashcoders] LocalConnection and Media Components?
If both swf's are on the same domain, you don't need to do anything special to get things working. Have you tried simplifying things, like sending a simple text message from one swf to the other? // sender swf import mx.utils.Delegate; function sendMessage() { trace("Sender ::: sendMessage"); var sending_lc:LocalConnection = new LocalConnection(); sending_lc.send("_myConnections", "setMedia", "Hello World"); } play_button.onRelease = Delegate.create(this, this.sendMessage) // reciever swf import mx.utils.Delegate; function setMedia(msg:String) { trace("Receiver ::: setMedia"); trace(msg); // make sure there's a textfield on stage called message_txt this.message_txt.text += msg+"\n"; } var receiving_lc:LocalConnection = new LocalConnection(); receiving_lc.setMedia = Delegate.create(this, this.setMedia); receiving_lc.connect("_myConnections"); Start by running both swf's in the IDE, so you can see the trace output. Once you got that working, try in a browser and see if the output is displayed in the textfield. view example http://muzakdeezign.com/downloads/localconn/ download example http://muzakdeezign.com/downloads/localconn/localconn.zip regards, Muzak - Original Message - From: "Martin Scott Goldberg" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Sent: Saturday, October 28, 2006 5:57 AM Subject: Re: [Flashcoders] LocalConnection and Media Components? > Hi Ray, that didn't work either. I forgot to mention that there is a risk that your variables can go out of scope, especially for your receiver. Might want to consider this is it still doesn't work. [Flashcoders] AS 3 -> event args
Hi there. I am just beginning my adventure into AS 3, and came upon something. In AS 2 I used to use a custom delegate class to deal with scope issues, but also be able to pass args (in an array, single string, etc) to my event functions. So for example, I might have something in AS 2: // snipped fro ma method for (var j:Number = 0; j < 5; j++) { this._targetMc["dtBtn" + j].onPress = MyDelegate.create(this, onPressed, j); } // event method function onPressed(i:Number) { trace(i); } So the custom class would allow this to work in my classes. Now in AS 3 as I have read, the basic delegate class is no longer needed as the scope issues are dealt with now. So how would I go about accomplishing the same thing in AS 3? passing an arg to an event method? Thanks! [Flashcoders] Flex Builder 2 for Mac - 6 things you need to know
Hi Have downloaded Flex Builder for mac, installed it and launched the app. It opens revealing a "Flex Start Page" panel which has a heading "How Flex Works, a sub-heading "6 things you need to know" followed by 6 text links that lead nowhere. Anyone else have this problem? Anyone know how to access this information? Is there maybe something additional that also needs to be downloaded? Re: [Flashcoders] >> very special Problem : set style and combobox
Hi, The problem is happening because you are scaling your movie clip. The scale does not seem to get passed down to the components - the problem does not happen if you use the code below, but on your site the scale of the uc movie is set to 70. You may need to style the "List Component" which draws the out of scale text... You may be able to workaround this by creating a CellRenderer which changes the way the contents of each list cell are drawn, but it will probably be less painful not scaling your movieclip if you can help it. The main difference between Red5 and a server like Electro server is that Red5 supports many types of protocols (RTMP, AMF, XML-RPC, XMLSocket (soon to come)), where as ElectroServer only uses the XMLSocket connection built into Flash. RTMP allows you to steam video and audio to and from the Flash player making video chat applications possible. You can't do that with XMLSocket. The other nice thing about Red5 is its ability to tap into other server-side APIs very easily, so one example might be an existing MMO game server engine could be used with Flash using Red5 as a sort of proxy. At any rate I'm not too familiar with ElectroServer, so I'm not comfortable comparing them feature by feature. ElectroServer certainly looks like it has a nice client side API though (just based on what I saw on their website). Something like that for Red5 doesn't exists at the moment, but there's no reason why someone couldn't easily create one and wrap the NetConnection stuff like they have with XMLSocket. I hope that helps a little. If you have more questions please ask and I suggest that you sign up on the Red5 mailing list as there are many more experienced people that will help you there. -Chris ___ Flashcoders@chattyfig.figleaf.com To change your subscription options or search the archive: http://chattyfig.figleaf.com/mailman/listinfo/flashcoders Brought to you by Fig Leaf Software Premier Authorized Adobe Consulting and Training http://www.figleaf.com http://training.figleaf.com ___ Flashcoders@chattyfig.figleaf.com To change your subscription options or search the archive: http://chattyfig.figleaf.com/mailman/listinfo/flashcoders Brought to you by Fig Leaf Software Premier Authorized Adobe Consulting and Training http://www.figleaf.com http://training.figleaf.com
RE: [Flashcoders] Easy to learn and use 3d program
Blender - very Powerful tool, not too bad to learn (though takes time reading the tutorials) - and Opensource (free!). Would recommend you check out Blender (or also Wings 3d, though I haven't tried that yet). However downside is no .swf output - though you could bring the model into another app which has .swf vector output like Swift3d. Blender is a great tool, and free is very attractive. Can take a few hours or days to learn the basics though. Overall, the tool is almost as powerful as high-end apps like Maya, Softimage, Lightwave and StudioMax, and being free is very attractive. If you have a small budget, swift3d is the way to go. However, modeling is somewhat limited, but great .swf output. Easy to use and learn. If you have unlimited funds, check out Maya which has modeling and .swf output. But that tool is a whole career in itself and will take a few days to learn the basics. [Flashcoders] OT - Flash Player run on the Blackberry?
A couple of clients, not technically minded, have said that Flash now runs on the Blackberry. I checked the Adobe Flash Lite pages and see Pocket PC and Sony clie. Asked at Blackberry tech support (they shoud know, right?) and the kindest way to describe the response would be "obtuse". The answers were "It depends on the provider", and "We don't make any recommendations for third party software." Does anyone know if a) Flash Lite runs on Blackberry? b) If it is provider-dependent, what happens when the user travels to another coverage area. (Seems naive, but we are talking TCP/IP, aren't we?) Thanks, and apologies for a non-coding question, although a "Yes" to a) will change that situation. Regards - Miles Thompson -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition. Re: [Flashcoders] SharedObject and Load Balanced Server (Local SharedObjects)
i thought about this last night and I believe this is more of a question about how the load balancing server would work - what the URLs would look like. If the load balanced server ends up generating alternate domains, like www2.domain.com, www3.domain.com, etc. I am thinking I might be able to use System.exactSettings System.exactSettings allows us the specify whether or not to use the superdomain (domain.com) or exact domain (www2.domain.com, www3.domain.com) matching rules for locally persistent data. If set to false, then the superdomain would be used, and settings and data for SWF files hosted at *.domain.com are all stored in one place on the client machine. but i'll be screwed if my .swf files get served from some damn akamai server with a funky akamai domain name - from what I have read I do not believe it is possible to shared local persistent data accross domains (local SharedObjects). if anyone knows otherwise, I'd love to know how! The reason why your error goes away is because the movieclip on the stage is not extended by 'RectangleExt' and the class is never loaded. So there is no error. Some findings: - the only way to get rid off the error is to completely remove all the actionscript on the frames. - Compiling in Mtasc will remove the error - Running without the actionscript on the frames works fine (and i can use all the functionality of the rectangle class) So extending intrinsic classes is possible - It is not just the Rectangle class, other classes like Point for example will give the same error my conclusion: There is a serious bug in the Flash compiler. but i am open for suggestions. -- regards, Quinten ==\\ Quinten Beek ; Game Monk MediaMonks BV ; Interactive Art Schapenkamp 2 | 1211 PA, Hilversum The Netherlands | Europe email : [EMAIL PROTECTED] internet address : http://www.mediamonks.com || * Member of the Creative Brotherhood. || * Please quote all replies in correspondence. || Muzak wrote: Change the name of the classs RectangleExtender to something else and the error will go away. import flash.geom.Rectangle; class RectangleExt extends Rectangle { function RectangleExt() { super(); trace("RectangleExt"); } } As soon as I change RectangleExt to RectangleExtender, I get the same error (code or no code in timeline).
