Subject: FLUXLIST: brubaker's finest wearable gourds

2003-09-17 Thread Georg Birkner
Just read that in italy, nobody was buying anything for 24 hours yesterday,
and that it really worked! Tell us more, alan! and allan, hm, yes, well, you
know... I'll send my trading cards ...soon. I will!

Gourd art: 13'000 (!) hits on google...
wearable gourds: 2 hits. I'm also intrigued!

Yoko did it - but seemingly the public did not. They left her with her
underwear on! O tempora o mores!

http://www.a-i-u.net/cutpiece03_i.html

A friend of mine tried to get there, He'll be back in switzerlabd and
hopefully report about the whole thing. Seemingly, they gave 100 tickets
to the press, the rest (200) was sold out within 2 hours and weeks before
the whole thing started, though.

Off to apply a little of the fluxus to my drawing a horizontal cut, scale
1/20, of the top floor of a housing project at uetlibergstrasse in zurich.

Dear sol, alan and gabriel

I will try what you (alan and gabriel) have suggested.

To sol: Yes, I am talking about the text-to-speech conversion function (in
simpletest). I'm using mac. Until now I have only managed to listen to fred
and company, but I'd also like to record them (or save them as sound format
of any kind). So that one could send them around, use them as samples or
whatever...

Best regards

georg
--
 Hey Georg,

Are you talking about the text-to-speech conversion function in
 simpletext?

Do you want to do this on PC?

You can do this using different synthesized voices to have more people
talking. Tell me exactly what you want to do and I should be able to
recommend something..there're plenty of freeware text-to-speech packages.

 cheers,

 Sol.
--
theres a program called ATTS (advanced text to speech) and it has mp3/wav
output built in

you can save what is read as an audio file

but its windows only!

alan
--
Hi Georg,

At least it should work on a mac when you record it from the sound output
plug with a tape machine, minidisc etc. (yes I know not very elegant...)

There are programs that can grab and record anything that goes over the
soundcard. (for instance internet streams etc.) This could maybe work with
text-to-speech too.

You have to look at www.versiontracker.com for it. I have not tested any of
them...

All the best

Got another candy fluxbox today! at least as beautiful as the first one. Ha!
now everybody will say I want to have two, too - but alas, this was
probably just a mistake. Anyway - I have given the second box to christina
this morning already and she just adored it! of course, you'll get at least
one candy flux box as well!

Ariel and me have finished a completely new, revised and improved
international edition of our stigma*tatoo*stickers yesterday for
fluxlistbox 2. I have sent it to you by super fast speed mail. Ok, ok,
that's something like five days late - still hope that you can put them
somewhere. The size is as announced.

Have a nice week!

Wh, 13th already... And then I still would have to send it to the
us, which probably will take another 20 to 30 days or so. I'll do my best.
Ours would be the size of an index-card (approx. 11,5x8,5x0,01cm).

I was in a car crash and I lost my hair...
By the way - I wonder if I have missed the deadline for the card game as
well...

A friend of mine has done some really nice pictures of her garden-gnome
visiting the most important places of zurich - I have forwarded your mail to
her - as she certainly is an experienced gnomesitter (I could also scan the
pics for you, if you like).

I wonder, if there's other gnome-travelling photo sets out there - maybe
even a gnome-travellers-list...

I am starting a mail art/performance with a lawn gnome, taking it out
for a day off, and then sending it out to the next individual for a
day out with him. I would like photos taken, and perhaps other
documentation sent to me where it will be collected and posted onto a
website, with activity and whereabouts updates. The goal is to spread
happiness and fun, and to see how long and far the gnome can actually
travel. I will be taking him out for pancakes and to a movie. Anyone
who would like the gnome next let me know..just don't expose him to
any physical or mental abuse. Amy

How about this:
gather the addresses of the possible participants, manipulate the first
card, play with the deck and then send the whole deck to the next
player/artist. He/she will then have 1 week to manipulate the second card
and play with the deck. Then send it on, etc. etc. You might also start
writing rules that can be written on by every plartist. People can join in
all year long, or even longer, or receive and send the deck on several
times, as the same cards could be manipulated more than once...

 - -I send out one card from a deck to each of 51 participants. (With the 52nd
 being myself.)
- -Each participant returns their card to me, and I assemble the completed
deck.
- -I will play with the deck and send it on to another participant, along with
a full list of participants
their addresses.

 we could always just start
by setting a number for the edition 5O LIKE THE last
one. SO we could all make 5o of something and send it
 to CRISPIN WEBB
  4 west chestnut
 apt # 5 mount vernon
 ohio 43050

just keep it small to or whatever
 Send your adress and name
 5 $ for shipping
and this could be well on its way within a short time
We could set a deadline for entry for feb 8th one
 month from now

How about defining the minimum-size and maximum-size of the box and then
letting everybody send their 50 somethings and 5$ within a self-chosen box
to crispin. In the end, theoretically, there should be 49 boxes of a certain
size arriving there, with 50 somethings in each of them. There, one only
would have to redistribute the somethings into the boxes and the boxes
themselves and send them out again.

Apart of that:
Cigar Boxes are nice! (3 points)
Paint Can, also very nice (2 points)
Candy tins 50 or more free but small
Cigar boxes 1$ per box
VIDEO tape boxes cheep
REEL CANS more expensive limited quanity on my end
I heard PAINT CAN , globe, cd case,

Ken Friedman is an informative, helpful writer and a wonderful correspondant
and I feel honored to have been in contact with him. And even when I disagree
with his views, I do so with respect. The amount of informative substance on
Fluxlist has dramatically dropped since he left. I have collected many of his
essays that he has posted on this list (and elsewhere on the net) into a
little booklet Ken Friedman on Fluxus which exists in a very limited edition
of 1 (if you're ever in Texas, stop by and borrow it!). Maybe before the end
of the year I will make a list of links to his essays for those who did not
 see them when first posted.
