Re: [Frameworks] ¿hay alguien en el d.f., Mexico?
Hi Kristie, I was living down in el DF up until recently and although my focus was not on mainstream Mexican films from the Golden Age I did work with a lady who was writing a book on the history of studios in Mexico. She may be able to help you with connections or first hand info but just lemme message her first. I'm not sure if she has time. Other than her, I would advise you to contact the Cineteca Nacional and the AMACC. They also have lots of info on Gabriel Figueroa (i'm sort of assuming you would want to research him too). oh and fyi, during semana santa and semana pascua a lot of locals head out to the beach so it may not be the best time to head down there. best of luck, Brenda Contreras = Hola. Hope you can make it out there! Explorations and Documentations: 10 Short Films from the North American Experimental Cinema This program emerged directly as a product of the daring spirit of the underground film community. Composed of 16mm, VHS, Super 8, digital and archival footage, the works in ‘Explorations and Documentations’ are culled from the curator’s personal geographical journey. This survey of experimental films from Mexico, Canada, and the United States take on views disparate from traditional cinematic storytelling regarding gentrification, fallen heroines, portraiture, poetry, sexual encounters, and imagined journeys. Featuring works by: Barbara Hammer, Ricardo Nicolayevsky, Dolissa Medina, Navid Sinaki, Elena Pardo, Rafael Balboa, Leslie Supnet, Morris Manuel Trujillo, Karl Lind & Cat Tyc, and Dalia Huerta Cano. [Frameworks] Call for Submissions!
The Arts at the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco, a visual arts exhibition program, is planning a Spring 2012 program of experimental film and new media from the Middle East, North Africa, and their diasporas. Inspired by the Arab Spring and its potential for a radical redress of oppressive structures of power, the program explores ways in which power determines frames of social and cultural visibility. Drawn from work both invited and solicited through this call, the program examines marginalized subjectivities. Submitted work should address gender and sexuality, (cross) border identities, counter-cultural practices, or other experiences not commonly reflected in mainstream narrative films. This program is co-sponsored by Artist Television Access and the San Francisco Arab Film Festival. There are no limitations on length and no fees for submitting your film. For submission form and guidelines please send an email to menaexperimen...@gmail.com. Deadline for submissions is Feb 1, 2012. ___ FrameWorks mailing list FrameWorks@jonasmekasfilms.com https://mailman-mail5.webfaction.com/listinfo/frameworks

We may be stuck in the sixties but earlier this month, San Francisco Cinematheque launched an online blog as a venue for writings on our programming. So far this month we've had writings by Max Goldberg (on films by Stephanie Barber and Xav Leplae, Douglas Katelus, Alee Peoples and Ching Yi Tsing) and Federico Windhausen (an examination of Ken Jacobs' "Opening the 19th Century: 1896"). Today we published a short piece by Jeffrey Skoller on Daniel Eisenberg (from the former's book on the latter).
