Re: [Freedos-user] DOS PR question - what LOOKS fancy in DOS?

I don't mind at all. A few contributions through this list are the least I
can do for the free use of a great operating system like FreeDOS.

Hi John,

Eric gathered up all your screenshots, and emailed them to me, asking
that I post them somewhere on the web site. Actually, it's not a bad
idea. I hope you don't mind, but I've posted them at
http://www.freedos.org/news/screenshots/

Technically, SourceForge REALLY REALLY discourages posting screenshots
in the web content area for project websites, as they tend to be
abused. So, I'll probably automatically & silently remove these from
the web site after a few months. In the meantime, these are good to
share with people for some good PR for what you can run (graphically) on
FreeDOS.

Re: [Freedos-user] DOS PR question - what LOOKS fancy in DOS?

2006-09-22 Thread Eric Auer

Hi Tom,

as written on the auction page, the games are all freeware
or UNregistered shareware. So, as usual with shareware, it
is okay to copy them but if you continue to use them, you
will have to register yourself. John does not have to do
this for the one who buys the PC. I myself only register
shareware titles when I want the extra levels. While having
only the 5 demo/unregistered version levels of some Jump and
Run game is not much, it is enough when you have 5 different
games each with 5 demo levels :-).

Just wondering how you can sell a computer for US $49.99,
include proper licensed
Doom II (USD 20)
Wolfenstein 3D (USD 15)
Seek And Destroy (u,50 at amazon)
...

and still make a profit

Probably not the best to have FreeDOS connected with this auction

My interest to date in FreeDOS has been as part of a software bundle that I
can put on older computers without Windows licenses (and sell them off on
eBay).

eBay still has the last auction I did on its servers at
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=24916192

I include lots of screen shots, mostly of games.

Hi all,

now that FreeDOS 1.0 is out, people show up and
want to write fancy articles about it, sometimes
with pics or even (podcasts...) with filmed
material... The problem is: DOS does not look
fancy, it just IS fancy :-). So... What could
our PR department use for the fancy looks?
Some first ideas and suggestions:

OpenGEM, MPXPlay, HTMLHELP, DEFRAG, EDIT, Arachne?

What else could be used? Got some nice screenshots
like the BootCamp imac one? ;-)
http://www.freedos.org/news/imac/

Unforgettable game titles are also okay, as long
as it is a game which is freeware or shareware.
Only in exceptional cases, abandonware would be
okay as well.

In a related question, what does look fancy about
DOS development? Maybe the more interactive parts
of our WWW stuff? SF CVS viewer, SF request tracker,
Bugzilla, Wiki, FAQ, LSM / software list...?

Suggestions welcome :-)

Eric

Hi. Definitely OpenGEM and MPXPlay; if Ozone is stable then that too.
