Hi,

Unfortunately I have this error/bug too (not sure if this is a bug or a
lack of feature). I mostly use GAIM for the Yahoo! and GTalk/Jabber
protocols, and beeing hungarian most of my buddies are too hungarians, so
when they put a status message which contains hungarian characters they get
screwed up in GAIM and I need to use my cryptographic skills to figure out
what their status message is.

I don't know if this is a Yahoo! protocol problem or a GAIM one, but
certainly drives me nuts. I hope a solution for this can be found, because
I'm sure I'm not the only one with this problem. Maybe it would be nice if
all the status messages on all protocols would use the utf8 encoding, so
nobody gets fancy (means unreadable) characters.

I have a feeling that this is a GAIM problem because all hungarian
characters (those with accents) show up as two exotic characters in GAIM,
so it must be some multi byte encoding used in the status message encoding,
and in GAIM a non-multi byte encoding which results in displaying a single
multi byte encoded character as two non-multi byte encoded characters.
Maybe I'm wrong, but these are my findings so far.

Good work has been done on GAIM so far, it's now becoming more and more
better with every release. I'm using 2.0b6 on Ubuntu Edgy.

Summary: cygwin + gaim 1.5.0 - solved painlessly

Initial Comment:
I know this issue has been discussed several times, but you mentioned in
response to bug 1500751 that you'd love to hear any real solutions. It sounds
like it may no longer be a problem with Gaim 2.0.0beta6, but I run 1.5.0 and
want to keep Cygwin in my path so I can use all of its various programs easily.

In my case, copying tcl84.dll and tk84.dll from the DLLs folder of my Python
2.5 installation to my Gaim folder solved the problem. Should this information
be added to the Gaim win32 page?

I hope this helps those of us who stubbornly keep Cygwin in the system path.

This is a GTK+ bug that should be significantly less prevalent in newer
GTK+ versions.

You can try GTK+ 2.10.11 (assuming you're using Windows 2000 or newer)

Summary: Crashes often when chatting through MSN

Initial Comment:
Gaim crashes often when I'm chatting with the MSN protocol (sometimes after
many minutes, sometimes a little after starting).

I have 3 backtraces. The first 2 ones are from a crash while chatting. The last
one happened a few moments after logging in.

The problem doesn't happen at least with the Jabber protocol (probable not in
neither of the others too).

The backtraces and the full core files (running on i386) are available here:

ftp://ftp.alepulver.com.ar/core_files/gaim/

Summary: Cannot Connect socket/writing errors

Initial Comment:
for the last few months I have not been able to use GAIM. I figured I'd look
into it finally. I am using the windows version. I have installed 2 different
versions as of today, I don't remember what version I had installed when this
all started happening. 1.50 and now I have the latest beta6 installed. A couple
months ago, I couldn't get MSN to connect at all on this computer. I had the
same version installed on my laptop at work and it worked fine. Then after
about a month AIM stopped working on here as well. Yet it still works fine at
work. I did a 10min browse of the old posts and I didn't see anything that
applied.

I get Connection error from Notification server: Writing error for MSN, and I
get Lost connection with server: Windows socket error #10107. Now I did
notice there was a post about the #10107 socket error, and someone suggested
that it was his firewall of some sorts. I have all my computer firewalls
turned off, but I have yet to mess with my router. I wouldn't think that port
forwading would need to be set up for this client to work? I also just
remembered that this has been happening for months, and I just got the router.
Also, when I try connecting with my yahoo account, it just hangs half way on
the connection meter and never errors out, just never connects. I use MSN
messenger Version 8.0 Build 8.0.0812.00 and I like the old school version of
AIM 2.8.3111

Windows XP v '02 w/ service pack 2
The only Firewall I ever use is the AMerican Family Association's
http://bsafehome.com/?13850 .
Windows Firewall has been off for quite a while.

Summary: First chance access violation for current stack trace.

Initial Comment:
GTK+ 2.10.11
Glib 2.12.11
Gaim 2.00beta6

1. Run Application Verifier (free from Microsoft).
2. Add Gaim.exe.
3. Press Save. (some of the basic checks should be enabled by default).
4. Start gaim.

Gaim will crash at startup and looking at the Application Verifier log, the
cause was a first chance access violation for current stack trace. Log with
stack trace follows. The help file gives the following information about this
verification:

Application Verifier break message
First chance access violation for current stack trace.

Probable cause
This is the most common application verifier stop. Typically it is caused by a
buffer overrun error. The heap verifier places a non-accessible page at the end
of a heap allocation and a buffer overrun will cause an exception by touching
this page. There are several other causes for this stop. For example, accessing
a heap block after being freed. The same debugger command will be useful for
this case too.

Information displayed by Application Verifier
Parameter1 - Invalid address causing the exception

Parameter2 - Code address executing the invalid access

Parameter3 - Exception record. Context Record

Parameter4 - Context record

Description - First chance access violation for current stack trace

Additional information
Verifier Stop code 0013.

To debug this stop identify the access address that caused the exception and
then use the following debugger command:

!heap -p -a ACCESS_ADDRESS This command will give details about the nature of
the error and what heap block is overrun. It will also give the stack trace for
the block allocation.

worth mentioning that it was happening even with the nightlies.

I'm running the following plugins:
